  3. Slightly more HF on clip one...Lakland? Almost a Labella trad. v low tension test too😁
  4. Happy BB2 owner here, but the Greenboy F112 would be in the same ballpark, although slightly heavier The BB2 replaced my Epifany ul410 and is subjectively just as powerful , in fact I used to notice ul410 compressing at higher volumes, Tecamp Puma 1000 bridged, 1000 watts in to the 8 ohm Epi ul2 4x10, haven't noticed this with the BB2

This is what gunged up my fingerboard...don't recommend it. http://amzn.eu/4wdRLvG

    Wax.?

Might gunge up the fingerboard...I use this http://amzn.eu/g6PU2Lk I've used thick oil before and it made a mess of the fingerboard and was difficult to clean off.
  7. Guess Nathan East will have to use Ampeg now
  8. It's got to be a P bass of sorts....79 was full of great disco hits, I remember playing them! and then there was punk...also P bass territory.
  9. I've used these guys, nice cables, reliable so far, would use again. https://www.designacable.com/musician-leads/head-to-cab-leads.html
  10. I changed from XLs to NYXLs on 5 string bass and have been impressed. Nicer feel to the strings, brightness has held up better with age, and have now been on the bass longer than XLs would been, and they still sound fine... Im sold
  11. This was my black P bass, had it 34 years
  12. Wow, this was my first bass amp....GLWS
  13. Have you played a WAL? Back then I wanted an Alembic so much.......than I got to play two and didn't like them......I bought a WAL mk1. Just saying, the bass you admire so much might not be so good when you play it, always check it out. Good luck with your search.
  14. Worth a look......https://www.fretfx.com/
  15. I feel responsible now. My set are on my 5 string Xotic P bass and are this first set of 5 string flats where the B string sounds like the other 4 strings. They don't feel as low tension as Thomastic Jazz flats, which were too low tension for me. Hope you like them!
  16. Yes, the La Bella low tension flats, although thinner the B string is clear and doesn't feel like an old rope. Much better low B than the deep talkin flats in my experience.
  17. I asked "Agedhorse" the amp designer about fan noise. I haven't noticed the fan at a gig, but it's noticable at home. His response: No, don't spray anything on the fan. The noise floor of the fan is slightly higher because we used a precision ball bearing fan with a rated life of 50,000 hours rather than a common sleeve bearing fan with a life of between 2000 and 5000 hours. Fan failures are a known issue with many older amps, ball bearings avoid this. Andy
  18. Bass machine 250, early 80's. Bought this after liking the bass baby, but it was a bit thin in the upper registers.
  19. There is about to be a price rise, but the cost hasn't risen much in quite a while. The Gen 2 Big Baby T was last priced at £750 new, the BB2 is currently £715, so cheaper than the previous version(no separate mid drive and Xover). The Gen 2 Compact was £550 and the new Super Compact is £569, so a small rise in overall cost. The Midget T and Super Midget are still both about the same price. I also use a Greenboy cab, I use what I think is best for my needs, loads of great speakers out there.
  20. Weight? The arrival of his own driver negated the need for a mid driver (3012lf doesn't get up there for mids) and helped make the BB2 etc lighter. I owned a Big Baby T and changed to a BB2. Less weight and a smaller package was attractive for me. Tonally I didn't notice a huge change, BB2 mids sound different/fuller and it was slightly louder ( same amp, bass and venue). Both cabs have a huge bottom end. There was also better quality handles and backplate for connections etc. I've not had any issues with any of the 4 Barefaced cabs I've owned.
  21. Might be of interest. http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/The_BAss_Mute.html
  22. Bending the string before the cut point helps stop the core loosening from the windings. If while winding the string round the tuning peg, the ball end of the string isn't allowed to turn, the string can have a rotational twist down the string... Think of an elastic band winding to power a toy aeroplane. When the string is at tension this can cause core to loosen from the outer wind. String can sound dull, or in extreme break
  23. I have a set of 5 string NYXL's on, first try, had them a couple of months, really like them and had no problems. Could your dull string have had a rotational twist on it, and that has finally separated the core? You may already do this, but check there are no twists before tightening new strings, and always have a right angled bend in the string before trimming the ends. Sorry if you already do this!
  24. La bella low tension flats would be choice excellent low B, nothing else comes close its the only low B that sounds like the rest of the strings for me😁
  25. Got a Marshall 4x12 not long after😁
