Solved the problem! I was using a stereo jack into my computer and it is indeed wired incorrectly. To quote my friend "on a mono jack, the sleeve and ring are connected, so the weird wiring makes no difference. With the stereo lead only partly in, not all the connections are made. Those that are are not connected to the right places" Therefore, it's fine! We will rewire the input jack when time allows so it copes with a stereo lead
MB1. If you have any more trouble with it....Send it to! .......I'll get me Coat!
Only reason I did not get the gloss finish is because all the other Wals I had played were the same satin finish. A local luthier told me once that too thick of paint like Poly or more glossy laquers can take the naturual tone out of the wood. I considered getting my second Wal in a gloss finish but decided against it, my next one will have a ebony board but otherwise similar specs.
MB1. Is there really that much audible difference tonewise in the lacquered and Unlacquered Wals?. Reason i ask is ive always quite fancied a blue lacquered 4.
Fantastic! First gig for my new originals band "Dick Venom and the Terrortones" last night. The venue (Jam Cafe in Nottingham) was tiny and packed. Not quite enough room to move about and the drum kit slowly slid forward during the set leaving me with even less space. However the audience response was great and despite one or two cock ups it went really well. Not bad for a band that's gone from just being an idea to first gig in just under 2 months. Saw some photos taken by one of the friends of the guitarist afterwards and it looks like complete mayhem, but in an good full of energy way. Loads of compliments afterwards and offers of more gigs. Just what was needed! Edit: Just been sent this photo of the gig and I thought I'd share it.
MB1. ....F**k Me!... Brian Setzer ageing Well!

Wasn't looking forward to it to be honest..but it turned out to be a most Enjoyable Experience!(if a bit a Sweaty) Very Understanding chap on the desk for the Sound check (our Guitarist thought so! ) Our Guitarist also had a Derek Smalls moment opening the cleaning cupboard door (i kid you not!) trying to get onstage!... Enjoyable Gig! and Well Recieved!
Don't need to say 'told yer so' Rich The only basses that stand the test of time in your house begin and end with an S. You will save yourself time and effort once you allow yourself to realise this. Tho I guess you'd have less fun......
MB1. ..And a Larger Overdraft! BUMP! -
Hi Basschatters, Anyone know how to get hold of ‘Dave the bass builder’ mentioned in this thread, any contact details? I know the thread is two years old but I’d like to see if I could contact him and ask him to build me a Fender Mustang (or something similar, short scale) look alike with a few modifications. Long shot I know but hey – worth asking. Oggy
MB1. Through Ebay send him a personal message (Harley benton music) -
