Personally, I've gone off the heavy American basses and enjoy gigging the lighter Far East stuff. Easier to play, easier to swing about, great sound and better value The gear snob thing is a bit of nonsense really when you consider a lot of great records were recorded using very average basses.
MB1. Theres many a Good Tune played on an Old (Japanese) Fiddle!

MB1. Many Thanks to Mr Lee Burt at ARIA U.K, who supplied me with a replacement tuner for my Aria Electro Acoustic Amb 50B. He previously managed to sort some replacement saddles for my Pro2 SB Special (Not a easy task!,considering its age). Great Aftersales Service and most helpfull....... Five Star!. Cheers Lee! Martin.
Hey Martin, yes it has a purpose made Ritter gigbag. They all come with those. The bass actually fits into the hiscox lifelite cases really well, though. Couple of foam inserts and you'd be there.
MB1. Rich I'm already there!....i have..... THE ONE! Nice bass though!...very tempting!....i prefer a more Buxom Figure! (must Bendwell too! ).....looks a little too Kate Moss for me!
You're not supposed to. Your third and fourth fingers are supposed to double up. Only if you've got really really girlie hands. I've got fairly girlie hands (glove size - 9. Mrs Zero's glove size - 9) and I can do OFPF in 2nd position (I have no need to do it in first but I'm sure I could).
MB1.
After playing loads of basses I've settled on a Hohner Jack and was wondering if there was something similar but more boutique. Would a Status fit the bill? The reason I love the Jack is the weight, balance, playability, tuning stability and punchy active electronics. Is this similar to a Status? Can you buy a Status if you don't slap?
MB1. .....Once Bitten Forever Smitten! .....Looks like the end of Little Jack Hohner!
Just my idle musings. New back in 1989/90 the 4 stringer would have been about £1600 (if it were a standard bass), if it was a custom order it could well have cost £2000 - £2500 (+LED work). The paint job looks very professional and could well be from the factory BUT... the fact that the LEDs are retrofit and hence the battery compartment was put in at a later date (originally it would only have required 1 battery) makes me wonder if the paint job isn't post production. I accept that SIMs would have routed the battery compartment very professionally but something is niggling my subconscious. I have no idea how SIMs fit the LEDs but would this need any modifications to the bass that would have marred the finish? Also the fact that he owns a 2nd Warwick with an almost identical style paint job (though different colour) in almost perfect condition (as per the 4 string) makes me have a 'sneaking' suspicion that he is pals with a professional paint finisher. Either way both paint jobs look very tasty and without seeing the end of the bass in the flesh it will always be speculation unless he has some form of authentication from when it was new. As to why someone bigged up the price - They obviously DIDN'T want to buy it and may well own a Thumb bass themselves and would rather see similar basses going for more money there-by increasing the perceived value of their bass!
MB1. I have had previous dealings with Martin Sim and the L.e.ds are put in the bass Without causing any damage to any part of the bass or its finish. So its not been refinished due to that. However Sims also do refinishing Too!....and the quality of that work is quite exceptional too!...as..... no doubt Mr Beedster on the forum will justfy.
Hey I'm looking for an amp and cab or combo like the Laney RB7. I know they are not the most desirable combo on the market but the price is a huge factor in my decision making. Been out of the music game for a few years and just getting back into it so need gear quickly and cheaply. So a Laney RB7 or something similar would be sweet, anyone got something like it knocking about just waiting to be sold to a struggling fellow bassist?
MB1. ""Items Wanted"...Perhaps!
