Following my competition stripe idea i thought id mention i've always thought car themed paint schemes would be cool, such as a GULF blue and orange stripe thing, or a black and gold precision trans am theme with firebird logo of course, british racing green with leather pickguard, an STP logo, or how about a herbie bass in white with the stripes and circular racing number? Am i bonkers?
MB1. NOPE! sounds like a job for Martin Sim......L.E.Ds and custom paint job specialist.
Along with my fretless Overwater the fretted has to go too unfortunately! The bass is 36” scale length with 24 frets, it has an American walnut body with burr maple top and headstock facia. The neck is 5 piece maple and bubinga with an Indian rosewood fretboard. The bass is fitted with the heavier brass bridge option. The only other thing I can think to mention is that the volume control is a pull pot which puts the bridge pickup in single coil mode. It is serial number 3102 and is dated 10th October 2002. The bass is in overall great condition, the only slight mark is on the inside of the bottom horn (walnut part) which you can just see on the large picture of the body, it really is the tiniest of dents though… You can view more pictures of the bass here. Thanks for looking! Sean.
Well I know it doesn't have much "cred" but I always though the bass line in "Too Shy" by Kajagoogoo (such a wonderful band name) was very interesting. Was it Nick Beggs who played that ? Firstly, it's a pure pre-teen pop song so there was no expectation (or even need) for a interesting bass line. Secondly, it really brought the song to life and was instantly recognisable - there's not many songs that a layperson can recognise from the bass part alone. Thirdly, it's a real "eighties" line with all the features of the time - bright sound, bit of slapping here and there.
MB1. +1......and apparently still paying Mr Beggs hairdressing bill to this day!

Most memorable instruments you've played?
MB1 replied to nobodysprefect's topic in General Discussion
Good topic! Haven't had this one before - hope it doesn't cover just basses tho coz here's mine Chinese harp. A bit like this one: They have sympathetic metal rods tuned to the same frequency as the strings, so that reverb effect you always hear them with isn't added with a delay unit. I found the sound of playing one in the flesh was mesmerising. Also, a keyboardist we nearly hired for our band turned up with one of these and it was literally love at first listen. It absolutely nailed all those classic blaxploitation hammond and rhodes sounds, plus he was a very very good player. Knew exactly how much to play and when to leave space. We were all gutted when he backed out to go travelling because his playing made the rest of us play so much better. I own examples of all the bass guitars that have been memorable for me, so I won't list them. Pete.young's Jap p-bass through my Burman was extremely nice though, I swear they were making big sexy time with each other. Oh and definitely an NS CR5 after it had been set up for me properly. I estimate it would take about 6 months of practice for me to get the hang of it though - gorgeous amounts of mwah and a deep, solid, thunderous amount of bass from that 41" scale.
MB1. "And coming up later on Bid TV ,we will once again be having the ever popular Musical Trouser Press!.
