1. MB1. The b series combos and many of the smaller speaker cabs are being made in china.Had a look round Sound Control the other day and there were very few that werent made in china. The SVT Classic range of speakers and valve heads are still being made in the states as far as i know.

 14.
I bet I was playing a 4 string longer than you! I went 5 string with a Stingray which I thought was the cheapest "pro" quality bass and I struggled! That extra string really shows up poor technique, or exclusively 4 string technique. But I stuck with it and now won't go back. I don't know why you would want to take 2 basses to a gig. A 5 string does everything for me.
MB1. Take Two Basses to a Gig?....No Way!.....I prefer to..... Wash And Go!.
 15. MB1. Anybody else building basses in the U.K at the moment? ....................

 17.
easy, 4 fingers = 4 strings anyone who plays more that 4 must, by definition, be an inbred mutant
MB1. ......lots of inbred Mutants in gigging bands in your area?

 19.
I hope not too many people have been turned off such a topic, as I have a question that I myself can't seem to find an answer for by myself, and I was hoping for some input. I've played 4s, 5s and 6es, got on best with 4s and 6es but it's been a few years since I had both around at the same time. After having the Smith I discovered that, like Elros, I used the additional high C somewhat when practicing at home, it got no use whatsoever in a band/group performance context. Even when I wanted to use it and could hear parts that used it, it just did not work. Quite the reverse with the low B, I tend to avoid it in practice and rarely hear parts go below that low E. When in a band context, if I hear a part that goes lower or I need a lower note, I simply downtune to the appropriate note. My question is, how did/do you guys make the decision as to how many strings you'd need/like/want/have? I am considering perhaps a 6 string jazz by Shuker in the future, literally just a 6 string Geddy without any trimmings. But I don't know, my fear is once I'd got it and the delight of a new instrument wore off that I'd just sidle on back to my trusty 4. Any thoughts on such a choice or how to make such a decision? Mark MB1. Im looking forward to a lovely Christmas dinner with all the trimmings in the future! Stick to the 4....
 20.
Ok.. so here's the thing... I've played bass for quite some time... a purist at heart... 4 strings, 1 lead and an amp... no fuss... setup in seconds... I am now of the opinion that I would like to have a go with a 5 string bass... Just to see what I think of it. What I'm after is a little advice from you guys... A cheap(ish) yet relatively good quality bass... What should I look at and how much should I budget? I appreciate there will be plenty of views and I'm open to all of them.. Cheers in advance.... MB1. Get your mum! something rather nice.... for Christmas instead!
