The Bass Centre continues its slow suicide. The new website is R U B B I S H. Unless you want to buy, er, a Warwick amp. There's no way of simply accessing what they have in stock at the moment - which seems (at least to me) the most important role of a shop website. It's not wonder the Gallery is taking over. Their website isn't perfect, but it works. Or maybe I'm just not finding the right link on the BC one? Jones
MB1. Thatll be..... new site same service then?
Allo! Another archive shot from the old days! I bought this bass in '99 from a chap who'd bought it from someone else etc following its sale at a charidee auction in 1988. Of all the basses I've ever owned, this was one of the very best, (and this had nothing to do with its famous connection - but being a major fan of the King it was a dream come true owning it for 4 years - had to sell it when I'd turned pro!) - stunning tone and build quality: Mark King allegedly bought it off of one of John Diggin's work colleagues in '84 for £100! Cost me £6K Cheers. MB1. I seem to remember this was the bass Mr King donated as a prize to a competition in a guitarist magazine(before bassist magazines) the guy that won it didnt play bass and didnt really know of level 42 so it wasnt long before it was sold on.I remember this, as i went in for the competition.I got to meet Mark on the world machine tour and this was what he told me.It did cost him £100 in 84.Was this no 2?......worry not im not a member of the level 42 police!

MB1. Hiscox +1......... Fender cases are just not in the same league! If however youre after something indestructible, you still cant beat the old 5 star flightcase(unfortunately no longer made, cause nobody needed another one ,and anyone who used one could easily be picked out in a crowd as having one arm longer than the other.)Nobody ever walked into you while carrying it, and, most people with sense got out of your way!
i would assume it's partly because a lot of the people who use rehersal room equipment don't show a lot of respect for it. every time we go to reherse the amp there has everything turned up to 11, input volume all tone controls, graphic eq and master volume. the amp is more than loud enough at just over half volume. the sad truth is, if it's not theirs they don't care. and most people who do care for equip bring their own. MB1. Everything turned up to Eleven???????? Your rehearsing in Spinal Taps rehearsal room!

MB1. AH! she is indeed a Cracker!....This was bought by me brand new!, then sold on to johngh due to the fact i had too many basses, and i couldnt justify keeping it. John then sold it due to serious Sei Gas after not having it more than a few days. The bass is still less than a year old and in immaculate condition. This is a real bargain at this price,if i wasnt sorted myself id have it back! All the Best Martin.
Do what Stanley Clarke does, just screw your strap onto your bass with a large washer, it should never come off then. MB1. This could be financially quite upsetting to do unless you are Stanley Clarke, rumour had it that it didnt impress Alembic much either, hed also had the neck spokeshaved and not by Alembic .Custom made tools of the trade to Stanley, but id still say the strap buttons are in the wrong place on that Stanley Clarke signature. What an Alembic Gripe?
Ed Straker says: "Bass amplification...it's about the music, the tone, the sound, isn't it, the best we can achieve (subject to whatever we can afford)??? Not about what's fashionable surely or the current flavour in the stores due to whatever marketing push is being orchestrated in the background and whatever colour is in ie yellow and black and vintage looking VU meters and silly knobs and faddish features??? Answers on a postcard to S.I.D. please. Caption: "Where's my 'Mid' control...?"
MB1. Are you sure Your not Peter Gordeno? he was also a bass player!
