  1. [quote name='Clive Thorne' date='Sep 24 2007, 12:02 PM' post='64676'] Have they affected the playability of the instrument? NO. Have they wrecked a rare vintage instrument ? NO Have they given the customer what he wanted ? YES. Also, the impression is that the customer is present at the time, so why are we giving them such a hard time? (I'm not one of them by the way, I just feel we're all being a bit harsh on them) A natural/genuine relic instrument achieves this state through years of abuse. So which is the most authenic way to reproduce this effect artificially? A very skilled paint job and sand papering by a craftman, or some abuse with a file by some young lads in a shop? Who knows? The craftman job would be very careful and skilled, but totally lacking in any abuse that a naturally battered instrument will have suffered. The file and sandpaper job in the front of a shop lacks any finess, but does at least involve some real abuse, so is possibly closer to the spirit of a genuine relic!. My own view is that either method is artificial, so why bother at all? Clive MB1. Well Clive!..."Good Luck" selling your old bass!....
  2. [quote name='P-T-P' date='Sep 20 2007, 10:10 PM' post='63346'] Thanks Martin, There's no doubt in my mind that if I played in a band that was more suited to it, it would end up being my number one bass because it sounds and plays amazing, just too different from my Lakland for comfort. Lot's of interest as you've seen but nothing spot on the mark just yet and it's a fun bass to have around so I won't be too concerned if I have to keep it! MB1. If it hadnt been for me playing one bass all the time,i wouldnt have sold it....This was just too nice to use as a spare! All the best. Martin.
  3. MB1. JPJ has been using Manson basses for years he has several multistrung manson basses.Ive never actually seen any body else endorse Manson but JPJ.So this comes as no suprise, really!.
  4. MB1. WTF....The only tool in this particular shop, is not the Metal file.Fender do this sort of thing professionally and ive never been able to figure that ,but this is plain stupidity, and not road rash!.Rorys Fender strat....years on the road, thats why it looks like that, its battlescared. This is just blatant senseless Vandalism.
  5. MB1. When hes sold the house and bought an aircraft hangar.........GET WORRIED!......he could be turning into Gary Numan!.
  6. MB1. Greetings P.T.P! This bass is probably the best Warwick Thumb Bass i have ever played. This totally beats the normal wenge/ovangkol/bubinga bolt on.I can also verify that this is in immaculate condition and plays like a dream. Its also one of the best Limited Edition series Warwick have done.If you need more proof ask Stuart Clayton on this very site, as he did in fact review one for Bass Guitarist Magazine. The photographs dont do it justice to be honest it has to be seen in the flesh so to speak!(bugger to photograph!). All The Best Martin.

  11. MB1. Gotta admit i now see Philip Kubicki basses in a totally different light!......and what can you say about the toilet seat guitar?......Fitting? cant help thinking theres been some nice instruments ruined in the name of customisation here! Ah! well as they say..."Each to there own"....Indeed!.
  12. [quote name='john_the_bass' date='Sep 20 2007, 03:08 PM' post='63131'] I used to break a string about once a month (4 or 5 gigs a month at the time) but don't seem to have broken one since before christmas. I switched between my ray and my precision at our last but one gig for a bit of variation. MB1. How is Ray??
  13. MB1. Saw a mate of mine actually break two bass strings in the context of one song.First the G went, and he bravely decided, to soldier on regardless, then another string went and even i could not believe what i was witnessing. He hadnt brought a spare bass, but had the all important spare set of strings!.Mr Dave Smiley take a bow!.
  14. MB1. Youve just brought to mind "Paint me down!" the spands, great bassline but what the hell was the singer thinking with those lyrics? Thanks for the offer!
  15. MB1. "You cant polish a turd!"....... however disposing of said turd adequately, ussually means nobody else has to waste there time trying ,either!

  18. [quote name='ednaplate' date='Sep 16 2007, 05:15 PM' post='61242'] I'm sure remember Adey from the mid 80s when you used to go into A1 from the corner entrance on Oxford Rd. You'd have to step over the amps to get to the stairs. They used to have loads of old Squier Strats in a glass case that could only be used with permission. I've seen all the changes A1/SC has gone through over 20-25 years. Some of the staff are just plain obnoxious which is why Sounds Great in Heald Green now gets my business. MB1. YEAH! anyway!...... ADEY the Guitar /Bass Tech/Luthier has moved to MUSICGROUND / OXFORD RD MANCHESTER.He no longer has anything to do with sound control whatsoever.I have all my gear set up with ADEY and can Highly Recommend him.So if your looking for a set up ADEYS YER MAN!(30+YEARS EXPERIENCE)...........Check him out!!!!!

  20. [quote name='Crazykiwi' date='Sep 15 2007, 11:00 PM' post='61003'] I'm having an issue with them still not having sent me a cheque for the sale of my fretted Modulus Quantum 5 SS TEN weeks after it sold. I'm not going to bitch about it right now, but if I don't get a cheque from Barry by the end of next week I'm not going to be happy. MB1. Seems to be worse than first thought!....doesnt Barry want to stay in business or what....!is it the peanuts and monkeys syndrome?
  21. MB1. There all a bit Bender Telecaster these arent they?.
  22. [quote name='OutToPlayJazz' date='Sep 15 2007, 11:29 AM' post='60781'] I've tried all the tricks over the years... I use fast fret to keep strings zingy & clean sounding... Strangely, if you wipe the strings with a cloth afterwards, the strings deaden. Just give the strings a wipe down with the applicator & they're fine. Make sure you don't get any on exposed screw heads or pickup poles, though. It's very corrosive! Many years ago tried the old boiling strings routine & wiping them with a solution of meths with a few drops of washing up liquid. Neither gets you very far, so I'd say either pay £15-20 on a set of strings each month, or buy some more fast fret at £5. Cutting corners never seems to work! MB1. +1.. In the words of Paul McCartney ......"Why dont you listen to what the man said!".
