And dont ever make the mistake of mentioning the 'W' word in front of Rob and Dawn, as I did, i'm still wiping the spit out my eyes!!! On the Buzzard front, I recall the very early 'W&%*@?K' models had the beak head and a single piece bridge this is about 1986 this is a thru neck 2003 edittion and the bolt on has the standard paddle head that looks totally wrong. I had a go in the one at the bass center last summer and was very disappointed, The last Status one that sold on 'bay went for £10,000 MB1. AHA G77 LAD! That Status Buzzard belonged to Mark Gooday from Ashdown ,and was given to him by John Entwistle, along with the original hiwatt 100 bass head(the one with "the ox" on the front).
The turning a normal combo on its side thing works well too! My guitarist tends to use my drummer's old Sound City 2x12" at gigs, which I gather you can switch one of the speakers off, so he usually just uses the top driver: It is a fantastic sounding beast even if half the features are broken (reverb, second channel, VU meter, etc)! Alex MB1. OH MY GOD! never thought id see one of these again, i used to use one of these to play bass through, many moons ago, speakers were replaced with bass ones and it sounded ok. valve amp weighed a ton, mine was on wheels ,bought it for next to nothing, off manchester band The Cheetahs.

MB1. Recently played a "Battle of the bands" noticed i was the only bassist playing fingerstyle out of 7 bands! PREFERENCE?

MB1. There are quite a few in that price range. What i would suggest is you try any bass youre thinking of purchasing, on a -strap- in the shop before you buy it.what i have noticed with some of the cheaper basses is they can be quite playable sat down, but the minute you put them on the strap, theyre ridiculously neck heavy.Gibsons and Epiphones can suffer from this,a lot of cheaper basses are really well made these days, but having to hold the neck up on any ill balanced instrument ,wont help your playing.I would say Squire Fender or a japanese/mexican fender, second hand jazz.Try to take another bassist or guitarist friend, with you when you purchase(treat them too a mcdonalds) cheaper than making a costly mistake. Try not to get interested in something with no resale value, just in case you change your mind(thats why i said Fender, they wont loose too much on resale, and theyre always popular).Bear in mind theres many a good tune played on an old fiddle(BRAND NEW, ISNT ALWAYS BEST).SO try as many BASSES as you can, and F++K the fiddle!ENJOY. all the best MB1.

MB1. THE REASON IT REVERTED BACK TO WARWICK! After johns son signed over the rights to the buzzard design to warwick,Status were warned make anymore of these and we,ll send Big Vern and the boys round! So the story goes!. O those Germans!.
-
MB1. Have previously been in bands with similar keyboardists(is that the right word?) try not to throw anything at him,and blaspheming and threats will not make you too popular!.All the best with the gig!

You must mean the khaki pith helmet(dessert hat)and goggles, with khaki shorts. If only i could get away with it! maybe if i keep practicing!.
Many thanks MB1! Just for once - being an obsessive sad B*****D vintage bass geek was a handy thing to be!! To be honest I would have paid that much just for the 1960 neck alone - even though it needs a lot of restoration - as the magic of having anything from one of the very first Jazz basses fascinates me. To get a '60 body & all the other bits was luck really & maybe a reward for being ready to take a punt. Funny thing is I had only just told a mate (who was looking for an old Gibson) to not even consider finding a 'bargain' vintage guitar on eBay - as they were none to be had anymore! All the best 99ster
MB1. Looking forward to the unvieling ceremony, hope all goes well!.(nice to see some good news, regarding ebay instead of the normal horror stories.)
Oops! I should of read the guidelines shouldnt I? Well hows about this, if somebody gives away £30 to me, I will give away this jacket to them, and we all know that the bassist has to look the coolest in the band, Did I mention that this jacket will also make you play like Les Claypool?
MB1. Woah Steady! Les is a great bassist but no fashion mentor! please!

MB1. Henry used to endorse westone, so he wouldnt have had a bad word,he scarpered to G&L as i remember.I always thought ARIA a better product to be honest and due to its endorsees (john taylor-duran duran)Aria gained a higher profile in the market as more of a serious players instrument.Westone however decided to go for the more affordable starter market and most of there stock became available through the catalogue industry ,kays having bought most of the stock.Out of the two im on the Aria side, my first serious bass which i still own(having recently found it 23 years later). Each to there own!.

MB1. Stars eh!think that was all jaco ever ate, so it wouldnt surprise me it ended up on his basses, however putting chicken grease on a fretless fender will not however make you play like jaco.He was RATHER GOOD to start with, chicken grease or no chicken grease!.
-
MB1. Great find!,you do know your fenders,i wouldnt have had a clue to be honest, and at £620 i doubt many people would have wanted to take the chance(probably why you were bidding on your own).Definately a lamb dressed as mutton story, nice one. All The Best. MB1.
