1. Like it ...nice red colour...white pearloid.....that will do nicely
2. I have had both, and preferred the headed, probally because of having all headed basses it just seemed natural.
3. I dont like the idea of a bass having the highly figured top, then you look at the back and its black, not sure about that! For that kind of money anyway,i would like to see a nice grain on the back also
4.
Hi again, There seems to be a lot of discussion happening regarding electronics and sorting out of tones. IMHO the electronics should not really effect your sound. The bass construction and choice of woods should create the sound and the electronics should only fine tune or further tailor the sound to your tastes. I would definitely advise against buying a bass and expecting the EQ to sort out the tone. Chris at Overwater will put any combination of circuit and pickups you want in a bass so you could have the circuit of your dreams but Overwaters sound like overwaters, they will never sound like a Wal or a Status and thats why you should buy one, if you want a Wal or Status sound buy one of them. But do some personal research go and play some and try out different scale lengths as that makes a hugh difference to the sound. As mentioned earlier all my Bs are 36' and have a clear fundamental and not clouded by harmonics and over aggresive EQ, but thats the sound I like. MMMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Overwater! Dave (honestly not on commission)
#1 Bought my first Overwater Progress 3 with a 36" scale neck last week from ..Leprechaun..and as already mentioned, the build quality and neck profile is top drawer, weight and strapped on balance are very good. IMHO also, the above post says it all for me
5.
Some sort of wierdness gone on here.
Oh sorry!!,i deleted my posts....as i was just teasing,anyway
6.
in the middle of songs !! Went to see a local band last night , very good apart from the bass player kept playing slap riffs and then back to fingerstyle in EVERYTHING from "i shot the sheriff" to "you need a friend " ! WTF is all that about its like bass tourettes !!! I saw another well known local basist doing this six months ago and couldnt believe it then either, it has made up my mind im going 100% fretless from now on i dont want to risk sliding on the slippery slope !!
Gets me too,i went to see a friends band and when i walked into the pub,had a good nose at the bass players gear,as you do....GB Rumour bass,Mark bass amp/cabs..thinks.. this is going to be good, they kick off and it was f****n...good,the sound awsome this man could play, but he over did the slapping, and after about an hour,it was totally annoying.
7. As everyone suggests above, but i started singing lead vocals and playing, choosing songs i could reasonably sing that had a easy bassline, and playing along with the song. Then gradually choosing busier basslines as i improved, and my voice also got stronger. My voice was never good enough for fronting a band, but i found it very easy to do reasonable backing vocals.
8.
It's never really bothered me, but I do have 3 with matching headstocks. 2 have matching Necks AND Fretboards (!) too... There's no accounting for taste! Just as well that they all play well and sound good! I should imagine the original natural headstock concept was driven by cost and ease of manufacture.
I dont mind either painted or natural, depends on the colour/design/fingerboard of the bass,as already mentioned,IMO the blue bass would not look as good without the matching headstock.which really sets it off.
9. I could never cope with that many knobs, would be twiddling all night luv that top tho'
10.
it's surprising that a through-neck 5 string bass would have a deadspot on the D string - was the neck particularly slim? and what was the make?
Well i must just be unlucky then because i have had several like this, all different makes, where the C,note area on the D and G strings lacked sustain and definition.Yes the neck was quite slim. I would sooner not mention the make,as this is only my opinion, and another player may think the bass was ok.
11.
Hi Ady, althoug I was looking actually for a Passion 5-String (Iown a 4-string and I love it!!!!), I read your offer today (European-Final starts in a minute...). Would you sell your bass to Germany? What is the price in Euro? I thin about 1.350,- Euro, right? Please send me an answer.... Regards - Ralf from Flensburg (a little town near the Danish boarder)
PM Sent
12.
If the bass is in some way defective, such as a lot of dead spots or something, then i see no reason why a good luthier wouldn't take it back and fix it or offer a refund, the reputation of their company depends on it, especially if it's a small company. Though if it's something trivial like you decided you don't like the look then i highly doubt it.
The bass did have a through neck,so no fixing there, I would think the original owner must have been happy to start with and maybe did not notice,or other reason i do not know, but the guy selling it was the second owner, and the bass is just 2 years old,so that made me doubtful anyway.
13. Its just...i went to buy a second hand 5 string bass, that was from new,a very expensive and well known handmade custom order bass, with a long build time......when i played it the open E was awful, and it had the same dead spot notes on the D and G strings so you could not play around that,so i did not buy it. So if you order one from new and this happens, and you have paid a large deposit to have it made, can you refuse to buy bass, and get the deposit back,or is it a risk you take? Has anyone bought a custom bass that they were unhappy with the sound/dead spots etc.. Edit:I know wood neck basses can have dead spots to a varying degree, from unplayable to get by with, but if its already been made you have the choice not to buy,if its bad.
14. Up for sale again as a trade did not work out....so no trades this time, thanks
15. I have used Elixir for a of couple years, after a bass i also bought had them on,i have tried a few gauges, and found the light set to be the best for me,..45,65,80,100,and a 125 B...having the lighter A,E,B means less tension for my finger style playing, and the D,G tension just seems to balance nicely with them. I buy mine from Strings Direct, and the more sets you buy the cheaper they get,and the delivery time has always been good
16. Out of interest...did you use a wood dye, which looks like it to me,or wood stain, and what colour was it?
17. GHS custom shop strings have red binding and brass ferrules
18. I have 3 grandsons so i am hoping one at least will take up the bass, which would make me very happy, but failing that i keep an up to date list of my gear with a selling price guide, and the money to be split between them.....happy ending
19. One of the better 1st dance wedding songs we have had to learn....December 63 (oh,what a night)by the Four Seasons..so enjoyable to play
20. Not sure but should it have the 3 screw neckplate?
21. I dont know if this is the cause, but a bass player i got chatting to at a gig years ago,we both had Wal's at the time, was telling me how he had to have all his tuners replaced because,as he put it,the acid from his hands had corroded the plating, and this had happened in a very short time.
22. Very keen on the mint green, has my vote
23.
Deal fell thru......back for sale again. This will be available until next weekend only. after then, it will be in a container and sailing to a new home!! Cheers
You have a PM
24. I think the added control plate over powers the look of the bass, and for me looks hideous, but thats my personal opinion,i would ask if the pups and electrics are original, and maybe why the MM looking control plate was added. The price seems good, but i think the mod has dented the value.
