I absolutely love the look of your bass!
If you're talking to me; thanks very much! If you're talking to somebody else in this thread, then I agree with you Lots of lovely basses.

I had never played a short scale before so I bought a crappy old Encore in bad shape but with a nice neck (one-piece walnut with a scarf joint). I made a new body for it and installed the p/ups and electronics from a retired Westone Spectrum GT. I kept meaning to post a build thread but never got it together..

Tone? Balance? Neck stability? Looks? I say looks is the only good reason for a single cut, really. I like almost all body-types (with the exception of the very metaly ones) and there are some really beautiful single-cut basses.

Yeah, it'd be good if they could give the website a proper update whenever the workshop is fixed up. I remember, when I was trying to find out who made Tom Jenkinsons bass, I found that website and I didn't know if the company was Zoot, Iceni or Purple Chili. Anyway, I assumed the company was finished or something because there's been no activity on the site for years and the shop button doesn't work. No need to jump feet-first into the whole social media thing, but a more up-to-date site would let people know that the company is alive and well. Such nice-looking (and sounding) basses. I'd love to play one someday.

I picked #2. Hard to say why, exactly. I just thought it had the most pleasing arrangement of voids and swirly bits.
Bakithi Kumalo anyone?
ha! My first thought when I saw Bassassin's pic. I've heard a couple of different model names for the bass he played on Graceland but that's definitely it. ......except for those weird metal strips on the fingerboard..

always a joy to follow your builds, Andy. After all the to-ing and fro-ing on page one about the design, did nobody think to point out that Alder + Camphor = Alpher? Spooky. Anyway very nice work

That's a really beautiful body shape. I really like the look of Zoots. I see you're going for a few less knobs and switches than Tom Jenkinson

Lovely bass but, nope, I just can't live with...
alittlebitrobot replied to TrevorR's topic in Bass Guitars
I agree and disagree with a lot of the previous posts but one that hasn't been mentioned that I just can't on with: Fodera headstocks. Particularly on a 4 string. They're just too big. It always reminds me of a big oar, to the extent that if somebody gave me a free one, I think I'd be looking to trade it for something that doesn't bother me in such an irrational way -
That's stunning. So jealous. I've never even played a Musicman, but I have the feeling I'd really like one
Another one will be along soon. There have been quite a few acoustics recently.
shut up shut up shut up shut up *jams fingers in ears* -

Thanks to whoever bought the fretless acoustic 5. I had it in my shopping cart and was hovering.. hovering...hovering over the button to buy it. Thanks for saving me from myself. -
July Composition Challenge - VOTING!
alittlebitrobot replied to Skol303's topic in General Discussion
a good scattering of votes, but it looks like it's Discreets month.. -
Do you and your partner have similar musical tastes?
alittlebitrobot replied to Roland Rock's topic in General Discussion
Ours overlap in a fuzzy way. There's a few things that we both like equally and there's plenty of stuff that's fuzzier. eg. My robopartner loves Etta James. I have absolutely no problem with Etta James. I like the music when it's on, it's just not something I would put on when I'm on my own. The same can be said for lots of other albums/genres which means there's only a few things that are intolerable to the other. Things that can never be put on the car stereo. But that's good. The last thing I want in a partner is somebody who's just like me. -

July Composition Challenge - VOTING!
alittlebitrobot replied to Skol303's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, good bunch. Despite being pretty annoyed at Mornats for pointing out today is Sunday and not, as I thought, Saturday, I still enjoyed listening to the whole bunch. I've picked my three.. EDIT: Updated the playlist to include the recently soundclouded track by Discreet. -

Nice one. Looking forward to hearing them later. For the ones that are hosted on Soundcloud, here's a playlist for your convenience: https://soundcloud.com/alittlebitrobot/sets/basschatjuly -
I only have headphones for all my listening and monitoring; inexpensive, albeit half-decent Superlux. I have them on most of the day, in fact. As to the Soundcloud count, I wouldn't rely too much, especially with such a low figure. I'm quite convinced that many 'listens' are really 'bots, picking up on just any old stuff posted. I should know; most of my contributions are squarely in the category of 'any old stuff', and get 'listens' despite that, sometimes even 'likes' from complete strangers. Maybe a count in the hundreds is a bit more significative, I wouldn't know. The essential is that it's a good piece, no..? The 'listens' are a bit of a bonus; to me, at least.
yeah, I'm not too bothered about listens, really. But I thought it was funny that the count went down because it made me think of somebody so bored by the tune that they somehow UNlistened. On headphones, my favourite headphones are just some fairly cheap Sony ones. I like how neutral they are. ....but they're the ones I leave in work My headphones at home are decent but they advertise their mega bassiness, which isn't very good for mixing.

I didn't even get a chance to listen to mine on anything but the headphones plugged into my 8-track. I checked it this morning on my phone and it had 5 plays on Soundcloud. I just checked it on the headphones I have in work, and it now has 4 plays on Soundcloud. ...this is not a promising start..

GRUMP. I was really happy with this months picture and felt like I would have the time but then work took over again. I got a couple of days at the start to come up with some stuff and then three evenings this week to get it into Ableton. It didn't come out how I wanted it to but the important thing is I'm actually getting it in on time here 'tis: https://soundcloud.com/alittlebitrobot/hypnos

! That's a beautiful guitar! Is there a build thread for that that I'm missing?
-
I reeeeally want a go one of these. I think I want one.

if NBD stands for New Box Day, I can see my enthusiasm for this site fading.. EDIT: aha! I spoke too soon. Beautiful bass.

Jackson CMG Concert Bass refinish!
alittlebitrobot replied to RustInPeace90's topic in Build Diaries
Is it a poly finish? Stripping that stuff is misery. No wonder you've got a few cans on hand
