  1. Oh, that really is a huge shame. I liked the look of these. (not that I need one, of course -especially as I'm trying to sell atm).
  2. I now have a decent gigbag I can chuck in with this bass - so you can take it away safely. Also, I may be able to meet up somewhere, to hand over and let you check this lovely bass out before buying. I have a battery powered amp and bass amp headphones, so you can hear it too
  3. The cheapest I've seen these is £151 online - this set is effectively brand new and unused, bar 1 string which was just put onto a bass. Someone must surely need a new or spare set for their NS Design EUB? This is a crazy saving for a new set of strings. They're sat around doing nothing - unless there's another bass I can use them on.... any suggestions anyone?
  4. Stunning basses these. I had a Roadworn Jazz in sunburst, and I wished it had been Fiesta Red... for some reason! Lol. These basses, look, feel and sound the real deal. GLWTS
  5. Definitely walk...or even run away. Several things looking decidedly fishy there. As others have said, it looks a lot like an NS, and they sell for much more money than that. If you really want to spend as little as possible on an EUB, you could wait for a used HB or Stagg on here. My first upright was a Stagg, which I bought at the Cambridge Folk Festival. It wasn't great - but there are improvements & upgrades you can make to them (there's a useful website somewhere). Mine didn't put me off playing upright at all - it encouraged me! Plus, when I sold it on, I got what I paid for it. It seems there's always someone out there wanting to dabble with upright.... and for the sort of money you'd expect to pay - I think it's worth it. Even if you decide it's not for you.... you'll pretty much get your money back. Good luck with your search, and hopefully with your new adventure (do it, do it - I've never looked back)
  6. Good to hear you've made the decision to get an upright. It is an entirely different animal compared to bass guitar - so you've made a good start by watching some Discover DB lessons. Best of luck with your exciting new journey, and welcome to the wonderful world of upright bass. 😀😃
  7. Yes, I'm coming around to thinking this more & more lately.
  8. I've not seen one of those before. Nice bass to rescue. The structure of that neck looks lovely. Bet it's stable. Can't go wrong with an old DiMarzio pickup. Happy playing and hope you have some great gigs with it
  9. I can't believe these haven't sold. There must be an NS player out there who needs a new set of strings. Or are the low tension versions the least popular? If I still had my old NS, I'd even keep these as spares.
  10. Still really enjoying my newfound (rediscovered?) love for fretless, and feeling so glad I got this bass. Set-up still needs an additional "tweak" I think. Alas, I'm not getting much time to spend on that currently. Some big life changes are on the way! (more of those later). But I'm grabbing a few minutes here & there to noodle along to a few songs, and can't wait to take it along to a full band rehearsal. My intonation still isn't as good as I'd like, and I have heard comments on here about playing fretless in the dark, to improve intonation by listening carefully. I might just give that a try. Anyhow, I'm enjoying the weight of this bass - it's not as light as my Danelectro or my headless short scale Ibanez, but it's half a kilo lighter than my P bass, and a tad lighter than my Mustang (I might even look at selling that now).
  11. Did a bit of a set-up "tweak" to this bass last night. I managed to get the action feeling even nicer. I wanted to give the neck a tad more relief - but the bridge saddles are at the bottom of their travels... and I can't set them any lower. However, it's set rather nicely, just as it is. There was a little string buzz / rattle at the heel end of the neck, and a close examination showed the fingerboard had a little upward slope at the end of the heel. Again, I bravely / foolishly took the sanding block to it, and gently took the level of it down a little. A bit of Lemon oil on the fingerboard afterwards, and it looked like new. It's now playing even better than before, and I'm even more pleased with my recent purchase. I could still do with selling my Precision - even though it looks lovely, it's just going to sit there, looking pretty, but unused. I am determined to make more use of this fretless bass than I did my last one, especially as I confirmed its weight with my digital scales - it's 3.5kg and that included the chunky leather strap I put on it. As you can probably gather, I am rather happy
  12. It's a 34" scale (even though I have tended to opt for 30" these days). I once had a German made Warwick, and the neck on this is nothing like that. It's like a very slightly wider Jazz neck (40mm at the nut). Fairly slim front to back and rather comfy imo. I lightly sanded the edges of the fingerboard, to give it a rolled-edges feel. I'm not sure whether I was being foolish or brave - but hey ho... it made it even more comfortable to play. I have been busy with a double gig weekend. Now I'm going to have a noodle with this bass tonight and tomorrow eve 😀
  13. As you can see from the photos, it's a reddish brown colour. In photo 2, the sunlight coming through the window was stronger, which seemed to really make the colour brighter. I have mostly switched to Short Scale for gigging bass guitars, but the neck on this is slimmer than my P bass, and its not overly heavy at around 3.5kg. I'll hang on to this unless I come across a lightweight short scale fretless. Really enjoying playing this bass. But I promised Mrs S that I would reduce the collection. Now, someone please buy my P bass. 😀
  14. A little while back, I sold my fretless Jazz, as I wasn't using it enough. Then guess what...... Yes, I joined a band which I mostly play upright in, and started feeling that I could also use a fretless bass guitar too. That thought nagged at me for a while, and I did my best to ignore it. Chatting with the singer / guitarist in another band I'm in, he thought fretless might add something to that band too - particularly as we sometimes do an acoustic duo version of that band. So this came up. I dithered for a while, and waited to see if my Fender Precision would sell first. Then the seller dropped the asking price of this - so I decided to get it, in case it got snapped up. And boy oh boy, am I glad I did 😀 Being a chambered body, its fairly lightweight, and I like the pickups. It's got a Bartolini and a Piezo in the bridge. Playing around with blending the sounds is great fun. However, it's a busy gigging weekend and I really don't have time to play much - so I'm having a quick rehearsal, jamming along with our album, playing this bass. I think I may even take it to the gig this evening, or tomorrow afternoon.... maybe even Sorry, no pics at the moment - my phone is really slow today, so I'll add them later
  15. I had 2 Classic Vibe P basses. And both were absolutely lovely basses. The necks on both were really really nice, particularly on the earliest model (China made) pale blue P. I think the approach of keeping the neck you like, and finding a lightweight body to use it with, is a good solution. If you have a P and a J body, from the same factory, made of the same wood, usually the J body would be slightly heavier, due to its size & shape. Sorry if this sounds obvious.... If you like a hint of J sound, then you could seek out a Squier PJ body. Perhaps even adapt that to take 2x J pickups, if that's your thing? EDIT: There is a PJ model in the Indonesian "Vintage Modified" series. I've owned a couple of Jazz basses, the lightest being a lovely Roadworn series. I'm sure I once spotted lightweight bass bodies on eBay? But you could look at the suggestion above, and enquire about chambering the one you have. Let us know how you get on.
  16. Oh, that first brave step! Best of luck with this project. I'm looking forward to seeing it progress. What a cracking find. Great news re the pickups too
  17. I Put a spell on you - Screamin' Jay Hawkins
  18. Goodbye Toulouse - The Stranglers
  19. It really is a stunning bass. It's the best P bass I have ever played too..... if it were not for my ageing back / shoulder etc I would be keeping this. It's my favourite colour too, especially with that Tort plate. If it doesn't sell just yet, I won't be upset - perhaps I can justify keeping it for noodling at home....
  20. These necks are absolutely brilliant (if you like a 44mm nut width - this might be the neck for you). Lovely build quality and finish. Personally, I think it looks superb on that body... I'd leave it there But if you don't GLWTS
  21. But my cardboard bass is the most comfy and lightweight to play. Sounds amazing too 😀
  22. Since getting my Dano, I later saw this ad.... and I have wanted one ever since! They look uber cool, with that f-hole. That red is a great colour too.
