[/quote] My David Gage, which I bought from Greg on here, came fitted with an adjustable bridge If you can go for a Gedo with one of these, I'd recommend it I've tweaked the bridge height on my DB a few times, until I got it just how I wanted Something not so easy with a bridge you need to carve to shape... plus of course, I can always change it again, should my style of playing change (i.e. improve lol) I have to say, I really like the look and colours / tones of some of those Gedo basses Good luck with the house sale / move from me too Cheers again

Those Squier VM basses are fab, honestly Try getting one second-hand on here, or a local shop Whenever I sell something, I'm always worried about what might happen in the post.... especially as a bass I bought a few years back was badly mishandled, and sustained slight damage Of course, both these basses may have been sent out faulty, from the Squier factory But I find it hard to swallow, that you had 2 duff ones in a row ....maybe Thomann actually buy "seconds"? - to keep costs down? Use a really really fine paper though - as others have said, NOT what B&Q call "fine" Something even finer.... Let us know what you decide, and how you get on I've got one bass I may well try this on.... It's not a huge problem for me, as I tend not to use that one for long periods at gigs, as it's a backup bass.... EDIT: Or would something like Jeweler's Rouge work? That's a very very fine abrasive polish....

I'd definitely take up the kind offers of BC'ers like singrayPete, and have a play on as many basses as you can Just like bass guitars, it's amazing at just how different they can feel, sound and play Try a few before deciding..... EDIT: Obviously not as easy for those available only online I never did get to try a Gedo - but they look so lovely

Sorry to hear that, and sorry - I don't know any authorised dealers in London I have seen various "unofficial" decals for sale online though I mention it, as presumably these are easier to source than genuine Fender decals... If you know for certain that the bass really is what it's thought to be You could consider a DIY job, picking up one of these unofficial decals If you know the bass is genuine, then that's good enough (unless you come to sell it on, of course) It's said in the modelling world (tanks, planes, trains etc not the other modelling) That transfers and decals are best applied to a glossy surface, for better adhesion.... As your bass is a '62, I wondered whether the decal had been replaced at some point anyway As you'd have thought it would have come off before now? Or there would have been some signs that it was about to do so Good luck with it anyway Let us know what you find and what you decide

Hi Chris, I was in your position just a couple of years back I started with a cheap Stagg EUB, and that convinced me to buy a double bass Although I didn't have anything like 2K to spend For some reason, there really was almost no choice in Cardiff at the time and I was restricted to either ordering from one of the sources you list or buying second-hand. But all the S/H basses to come up for sale seemed to be the other side of the country! Don't know much about Westbury, but Strunals seem to be well thought of Another company who seem to be really well regarded are Gedo I'm sure there will be another BC'er raving about these shortly.... I've heard not only are they fantastic basses, but the service & delivery from Gedo are excellent too My first acoustic double bass was bought second-hand, from a fellow BC'er and I'd recommend considering that option. Most BC'ers seem very reasonable folk, and will let you try a bass out and tell you what they know of its' history etc etc Take a look at Gedo, but keep your eye out in the Second-hand section Try as many as you can (not always easy, I know) Most of all, welcome to the world of DB ( there's no turning back) and good luck with your search Marc

Had quite a huge sound actually, for something so small However, I really couldn't get on with the strings I found playing it really difficult Also, it seemed to go out of tune easily (though this may be because of the new strings)
