1. Since my last post, I spoke to my guitarist pal He says he's got way too many guitars.... and his G/F is starting to hint as such, a bit more fervently He doesn't use his buttersctotch Squier Tele much Really preferring Strats...... However, he said he's not going to sell the Tele as he loves its' sound so much, and really really likes the colour... He's got a Squier CV Strat too, (after buying the Tele) and reckons it's as good as any of the Fender Strats he's played.... Ley us know if (read "when") you buy it Cheers
 2.
Burgundy Mist Jazz after recording last night. Pipped the Stingray, and sounded absolutely fantastic :-)
Wow! Really like this bass too From all the above comments, it seems that those who order a Limelight from Mark really love everything about their bass I know I really liked the sound on that Limelight P I played....
 3.
Hi Marc, can you tell me how much it weighs please? Thanks, Phil.
No idea sorry Phil I've got a couple of interested people If they don't go for it, I'll find a bathroom scales somewhere & weigh it But the latest couple of guys seem to be serious buyers.... No interest for weeks - then 3 come along at once! lol PS. It's pretty heavy compared to my Fender Jazz, I think but not stupidly heavier..... I'm saying this, without either bass in front of me though.....
 4.
Look at that. A blurry photo of the neck plate....
Yes, I thought that too Funny how all the other pics are sharp....
 5. That's great news! Indeed, there are still plenty of people out there who do care .... and this is a nice example
 6.
Thanks both - Looks like I might have to get one. It's the worn in feel that does it for me and why I have moved on my CV Squiers..they feel trapped in plastic to me. Now jazz with rw board...but burgundy mist, sea foam green, lpb the choice is going to be tough
No worries - this forum is here to help swap ideas & thoughts etc Of course, each of us will have a different "feeling" or experience when we pick up a bass But I know others have commented on how Limelight necks feel worn-in, so I don't think that's just me.... Re your CV Squiers - I know what you mean about "trapped in plastic" but oddly enough, I've felt that with other basses... My CV P bass doesn't feel that way, IMO - again, I know it actually IS trapped in plastic, or some similar substance but I have to say it does feel as if it is sort of worn-in.... (Not as good as a Limelight though) And I really am struggling to decide on colour myself..... so good luck with your choice
 7.
Has anyone/Can anyone compare a Limelight to a Fender Roadworn. I have a RW Jazz that I adore, it just feels spot on in every way. BUT I'm a sucker for a custom colour and matching headstock.
I too have a Fender roadworn Jazz and like the others who mentioned this, I absolutely love my RW Jazz I recently acquired a lovely US Jazz - but for me, the roadworn just pips it! Compared to Limelights, it's difficult to say exactly I tried 2, one being a P bass, the other being a P with Jazz shaped neck The second being most similar, in terms of neck profile I'd say both the RW and the Limelight have a similar "worn-in" feel to the finish on the neck But both sounded different, due to different pickups etc I also compared FuNkShuI's 60's P with my Squier Classic Vibe 60's P Both these basses compared very favourably - the Squier was very, very close However, the roadworn finish on Limelight did look superb The neck on the Squier was very slightly easier on my left hand, in terms of profile but the neck on the Limelight had more of that worn-in, comfortable feel The pickup on the Limelight also just edged it, in terms of sounding a bit more "vintage" As others have said, when you order a Limelight, you get choice of colour, finish, degree of relicing etc The only trouble for me, is that I'm used to seeing basses for sale, and either liking them or not .... now I have choice of colour etc..... I'm changing my mind as to which I'd prefer From the 2 Limelights I've played, and from the pics on this thread, and what owners have said I think Mark is producing fab quality, bespoke basses, which really look, feel & sound the part
 8.
Hi Mike. welcome to the jungle. Keep an eye on "events" for the next Cardiff S Wales Bass Bash. These meet ups are great for trying out each others kit, as well as giving you GAS.
Hello again Mike, As Gelfin says, the Cardiff bass bash is one to keep an eye out for Gelfin himself kindly puts this event on, and I'd highly recommend coming along It's a great way to meet other local bass players, and swap ideas, ask questions, or indeed answer a few Several of us bring gear along, and it's a great opportunity to try out a bass, an amp, or some effects The regular attendees are a great bunch, really friendly etc So we hope to see you at the next one.... Cheers again
 9.
Yellowing Olympic White with matching headstock
Yes, yellowing Olympic white is a great option Not totally sure whether I'd opt for the matching headstock.... Looks great, but I prefer a plain one on my basses I really am tempted by Burgundy Mist.... Then again, I quite fancy Candy Apple Red too! lol
 10. Hi Mike / MJ Chappers, Looks like you've made a good start Jon is well respected by anyone who has had lessons with him I'm also in Cardiff You must come along to the next Cardiff bass bash, which Gelfin organises Hope to see you around Cheers Marc
 11.
I'd be scared to take any of those to a gig in case they got repaired.
Lol I'm a recent convert to the roadworn look But I have to say, these guitars and basses are a bit OTT for my taste As for the price, and description It really is baffling - when making a major purchase, such as a guitar The buyer really should read the description carefully I saw a Jazz bass the same seller listed earlier That too was really beaten up But on this occasion, he seemed to describe it fairly well He wasn't trying to pass it off as a US Fender and listed it as Fender Mex, with some Squier parts.... Someone is buying these guitars so I suppose it's a case of beauty being in the eye of the beholder.....?
 12. I once played in a covers band, who were all really nice guys The drummer was a great bloke, really friendly and easy to get on with He could keep time OK, when he played simple stuff, but he often tried to over elaborate.... Sometimes it came off, but mostly, he ended up out of time The drummer and bass player are, as others have said, the engine room of the band What made it worse, was that I was also playing in a tribute band with a really amazing drummer (who I've continued to work with, in a couple of subsequent bands) And when you play in a band with a great drummer, and another band with a bad drummer You really notice the difference The bad timekeeper said that he knew he went out of time when he elaborated but said he got bored playing a simple pattern... Although it can be difficult to part company with great guys I just had to go in the end....
 13.
Now mine this has blown away all of my precision preconceptions, dislikes and general anti fender outlook. Never would I have predicted that a humble beaten up ole P bass could have been this enjoyable. Truly awesome playing and sounding thing. Always liked relic looking basses but I didn't expect it takes feel so worn in, comfortable and full of character. Thanks Pete, err Kenny
Lucky you Dazed! That P bass looks amazing Yes, I agree completely that these Limelights somehow "feel" worn in They are just so comfortable to play I don't quite know how Mark manages to get that worn-in feel & finish, but he's got it just right I'll hopefully be ordering one shortly My trouble is, I can't decide what colour to go for I love the '63 Fiesta Red (my YOB) But I have a rather nice Squier, in that colour I really want a maple fretboard, but they didn't do one in '63.... One minute, I want slightly yellowing Olympic White..... The next I fancy Burgundy Mist... What should I do? - and before anyone suggests it - I can't have more than one I already have too many basses, and am flogging my MM to make way for a Limelight Oh the agony of choice PS. I once owned an early 70's P - and I found the neck way too chunky and was put off Fenders for a very long time - now I love them..... with renewed enthusiasm!
 14.
I hope a jazz version doesn't appear for sale soon or my bank account is for it!
What's more important - your bank account? .... or your "need" for a superb bass?
 15.
Nice job. Looks the part. I've managed to 'relic' my P bass from new. 7 years of being clumsy, bashing into things, playing with cufflinks and chunky watch straps. I had to sand down all the chips and wear a bit as it was scratchy and uncomfotable to play otherwise. I should put up some pics. It looks like some terrible half arsed job when it's actually all authentic
Yes please Low End Bee, Post some pics. Isn't it ironic, that your bass is actually authentically roadworn, yet doesn't look it? Mind you, I think it illustrates that you can't just hack away at the paint of a bass - to get a good roadworn / reliced look, it takes a bit more thought, and some good technique I've got a re-sprayed Squier PJ Fretless, which has some real scratches, chips & dings I may well have a bash at doing some relicing on that....
 16.
I can't find the link to the video now, but Andertons did a blindfold test of four Teles: CV, Mexican, USA and Custom Shop. Guy picks up the CV and says, "ah, this is the Custom Shop..."
Yes, I recall seeing that video too I just can't believe the quality of my CV Squier I keep telling people about it, cos I can't believe just how good it is for the money! Try out one of those Tele's would be the best thing to do I'm sure you'd like it though....
 17. Don't play much guitar myself But a guitarist pal of mine has exactly one of these, same colour too He really likes his, and thinks his other recent purchase, a Squier CV Strat is fab too I've got Squier CV 60's P bass, and it really is great! Such good construction, playability and high quality finish - I can't tell you how much I like it If that's anything to go by, and my guitarist pals thoughts, then I'd say it's a good option Cheers and good luck with your guitaring adventures
 18. I wasn't "into" relics until recently I too think that if you don't like them, that's your choice as it is your choice if you do like them... I bought my Fender Roadworn Jazz a while back, from a fellow BC'er and since then, I've really fallen for the aged / relic look It doesn't mean your bass doesn't have a history, if it is old and doesn't have a mark on it It's just a look some people like Some get rather upset with others option to relic, saying "you wouldn't go out & scratch your car up" But choice of relic finish is just a finish option - and that's where comparison with a car should end - I mean, would you take your shiny new bass out in the rain, through some puddles? To me, ageing / relicing a bass is fine, if that's what you want to do - it's yours, and yours only, after all plus, it can lend a certain feel and look to an instrument I wouldn't do it to a vintage Fender which had no marks, or any other mint condition or expensive instrument But I once had a mint, expensive bass, and was absolutely gutted when someone else knocked a cymbal stand onto it! Playing a reliced / roadworn bass at a gig is really, really liberating - I'm not anywhere near so precious with it and far more relaxed about any chances of it getting bumped... I'm really loving the Limelight basses I've seen recently And I think you've done a really good job here Some nice touches there - and I think you'd have a few potential buyers if you decided to sell
 19.
Yes, you do! Get Mark to make a replica of my (Rumple's) 1976 Precision, then sell it to me later! http://s734.photobuc...s?sort=6&page=1
Oh that's lovely Discreet drool..... ...and I thought my GAS was under control! EDIT: I wouldn't be selling it later though.... lol
 20. Bump for this bass (again!) Am considering trading this bass in, for a Limelight So this could be your last chance to get a really great MM in a less common colour! - and for a really low price Lots of people have viewed the thread - but no takers.... If no-one comes forward with an offer - I will be trading this bass .... so if you're interested - hurry up lol
 21.
The problem is that even high quality photos don't even come close to doing justice to the quality of these basses.
Having seen 2 examples of fab Limelight basses, I have to say I agree with you Photos can give you a good overall idea of how they look, but "in the flesh" the 2 I saw just seemed to ooze a mojo / atmosphere.... They sounded great, and were lovely to play too So I think I'm going to trade in my MM and order a Limelight in the new year (lets get Christmas out of the way first! lol) Mark seems a great guy to deal with, and seems to give a fair trade price My only problem, is that I'm now "agonising" over choice of colour / desogn It's got to be a P bass, with slimmer Jazz-style neck, I'm thinking about a YOB bass - which is '63 BUT - I've got a hankering for a P with maple neck, and apparently, Fender didn't do any Maple necked P's in '63.... I've got a Classic Vibe Squier P, in '63 colours - Fiesta Red, with red tort scratchplate So does that satisfy my YOB urge? Do I fancy a P in White, with maple neck? Do I want one in black? Should I opt for Candy Apple Red? .... quite fancy one in purple actually.... Help!
 22. I used to have a G4M case Which I think is great value for money It's pretty lightweight, for its' size, and fairly tough too Only thing was, Its' size - they really are big Now I have a David Gage Czech-Ease bass, it's quite a bit smaller It came with both hard & soft cases, and both fit much more easily into my car But I still tend to use the soft case, as the hard case is that bit more bulky, heavy & awkward to negotiate stairs & doorways etc
 23.
All the bass I'll ever need.
Lovely! Really like that last P bass too.... I missed out on FuNKshUi's Fiesta Red P, and am gutted GAS is unbelievably low at the moment - I love the basses I have (and I have too many lol) But I keep coming back to look at this thread.... .... and drooling Keep the pics coming Limelight owners.......
 24.
The only way you'll ever know if it works for you is to get one.
Indeed I never really got on with 5's I must say I don't quite know how or why, but I've never taken to them I bought myself a cheap 5 stringer a few months back I've hardly played it, but I will give it some more time in future Mostly I bought it just to give playing 5's more of a go.... There is added flexibility, I'm sure, but I find 4's more comfortable to play I tried a few 5'ers before buying, and generally found the string spacing was a problem for me especially when playing finger-style, I found there to be insufficient space between strings to get my fingers really "in there".... A fellow local BC'er advertised a second hand Squier P 5 string and that's the one I opted for - the wider neck is slightly less comfortable for my left hand but I found the string spacing much wider and better for my right hand It all depends on what's most comfortable to you - so try a couple Buying that Squier P for a reasonable amount, I know I'm not going to lose much if I decide to sell it on So try a couple, and get something either second-hand, or go for something like a Squier.... I've now got 3 Squier basses..... and they're all really good instruments EDIT: I was quite surprised at just how different some models are, in terms of neck width and in particular, string spacing....
