Bump for this bass (again!) Am considering trading this bass in, for a Limelight So this could be your last chance to get a really great MM in a less common colour! - and for a really low price Lots of people have viewed the thread - but no takers.... If no-one comes forward with an offer - I will be trading this bass .... so if you're interested - hurry up lol -
The problem is that even high quality photos don't even come close to doing justice to the quality of these basses.
Having seen 2 examples of fab Limelight basses, I have to say I agree with you Photos can give you a good overall idea of how they look, but "in the flesh" the 2 I saw just seemed to ooze a mojo / atmosphere.... They sounded great, and were lovely to play too So I think I'm going to trade in my MM and order a Limelight in the new year (lets get Christmas out of the way first! lol) Mark seems a great guy to deal with, and seems to give a fair trade price My only problem, is that I'm now "agonising" over choice of colour / desogn It's got to be a P bass, with slimmer Jazz-style neck, I'm thinking about a YOB bass - which is '63 BUT - I've got a hankering for a P with maple neck, and apparently, Fender didn't do any Maple necked P's in '63.... I've got a Classic Vibe Squier P, in '63 colours - Fiesta Red, with red tort scratchplate So does that satisfy my YOB urge? Do I fancy a P in White, with maple neck? Do I want one in black? Should I opt for Candy Apple Red? .... quite fancy one in purple actually.... Help!

I used to have a G4M case Which I think is great value for money It's pretty lightweight, for its' size, and fairly tough too Only thing was, Its' size - they really are big Now I have a David Gage Czech-Ease bass, it's quite a bit smaller It came with both hard & soft cases, and both fit much more easily into my car But I still tend to use the soft case, as the hard case is that bit more bulky, heavy & awkward to negotiate stairs & doorways etc
All the bass I'll ever need.
Lovely! Really like that last P bass too.... I missed out on FuNKshUi's Fiesta Red P, and am gutted GAS is unbelievably low at the moment - I love the basses I have (and I have too many lol) But I keep coming back to look at this thread.... .... and drooling Keep the pics coming Limelight owners.......

To 5 string or not to 5 string? That is the question.
Marc S replied to kulabula's topic in General Discussion
The only way you'll ever know if it works for you is to get one.
Indeed I never really got on with 5's I must say I don't quite know how or why, but I've never taken to them I bought myself a cheap 5 stringer a few months back I've hardly played it, but I will give it some more time in future Mostly I bought it just to give playing 5's more of a go.... There is added flexibility, I'm sure, but I find 4's more comfortable to play I tried a few 5'ers before buying, and generally found the string spacing was a problem for me especially when playing finger-style, I found there to be insufficient space between strings to get my fingers really "in there".... A fellow local BC'er advertised a second hand Squier P 5 string and that's the one I opted for - the wider neck is slightly less comfortable for my left hand but I found the string spacing much wider and better for my right hand It all depends on what's most comfortable to you - so try a couple Buying that Squier P for a reasonable amount, I know I'm not going to lose much if I decide to sell it on So try a couple, and get something either second-hand, or go for something like a Squier.... I've now got 3 Squier basses..... and they're all really good instruments EDIT: I was quite surprised at just how different some models are, in terms of neck width and in particular, string spacing.... -

Please let us know what you think about the Entwistle pickups Wilco I'm tempted to try a set in my P bass They certainly are reasonably priced....

Shame steviedee maybe the bass had been mucked about with, by someone who doesn't know what they're doing .... or was the bad vibe from the Cash converters staff? Give another one of these basses a try That's my advice... Good luck with your search

NDBD The Strunal has landed **feelgood update**
Marc S replied to SubsonicSimpleton's topic in EUB and Double Bass
Hi again SubsonicSimpleton, Many thanks for posting that diagram I thought that would roughly be the arrangement Nice to see it confirmed though I suppose the tricky part, is "catching" the soundpost though? .... I never was much of a fisherman! lol Cheers again Really glad I saw this thread and I must get around to making my own soundpost tool Marc -
I'm sure I recall seeing at least one Hagstrom that looked like an SG? Could be wrong, of course - as memories can be unreliable.... especially my ageing one! One nice thing about seeing an old bass that can hold its' own today Is that at one time, most musicians seemed to have a preconception that you either bought a "big name American brand" - or you bought rubbish Yes, there were some awful instruments out there at the time .... but there was some good stuff out there too.... Your friend is indeed a gem of a pal ... I can't get a drink out of some of my pals!

Something a bit different! Nice to see old basses surviving and still being used I saw a couple of Hagstroms - if my memory serves me - but don't think I ever saw one like this What a great friend Thanks for posting
Depends what you do it for! Love or money!
Indeed. I do it because I love playing Yes, there will be bad gigs, yes there will be gigs that don't pay well But if you count those as free rehearsals, and help towards getting better and tighter You can charge more in future... I know how you feel A lot seems to also depend on the area you're playing in.. Pubs are having a tough time too I'm sure you'll feel better soon enough As others have said, if you can make some complete strangers happy, and get a real positive vibe from playing, it's a dose of medicine Playing bass in a band is my hobby ... and long may it remain so

Strings for 1/2 size and action for soft hands!
Marc S replied to Telebass's topic in EUB and Double Bass
I hadn't realised Innovation did 1/2 size strings As someone who hasn't been playing DB that long, I too found many DB strings to be uncomfortable, and with too high a tension, initially Then I tried Innovation Silver Slaps, and loved them The tension was much lower, and I found them much more comfortable to play Honeys do indeed have a slightly lower tension than the others you mention But give the silver slaps some consideration.... They are slightly darker sounding again, but they're great strings (EDIT: And slightly lower tension than the Honeys too, I think) .... and Innovations are generally cheaper too - think I paid about £85 incl P&P Good luck I know it's not as simple a choice as strings for bass guitar! Cheers -
I've been playing about 2 years now Although I don't think I've improved too much I'd say, just build up the amount of time on the DB slowly.... You are using different muscles, and those you have been using, you are now using differently I'd say get a few lessons too (although I've been lazy in that respect) There are links to some good Youtube lessons on here too So seek them out as well Glad to hear you're enjoying it It is fun eh? Addictive too Good luck
Here's mine, No124 58, Jazz neck. It's a wonderful Bass and I couldn't be any happier with it. Sadly, If my Warwick doesn't sell then this might have to go.
Nice looking P bass! I agree with Jazzneck Sell the Warwick.... You can get another easy enough But that Limelight is harder to replace....
