    Thanks for that @SuperSeagull Mine still has the same functions to the controls - but I think I'd prefer the arrangement you have, with 2x vol and 2x tone. I definitely prefer a passive bass. Only once did a battery fail on me at a gig... but it's a lasting memory. It was quick enough to fix at the time (I usually carry a spare battery) but a pre-amp fail - ooh, that's a scary thought for a live gig, even though I'm sure it doesn't happen often.

    I played one of these in my local shop, a while back. I was amazed at just how nice it was, and surprised at how good the sound was, from the factory pickups. Nice mods - I'm sure the pickup is great, and Kiogon wiring loom kits are always top notch.... But that Tort scratchplate instantly makes the bass look that much better! Nice 😀 GLWTS Edit: if I didn't already have an amazing Jabba mini bass, I'd be sorely tempted. EDIT2: dammit! I'm still sorely tempted! Lol 😀

    Hi. It has been at the luthiers for a while - having the fingerboard levelled, and the edges "rolled" It's set up better now, and playing even nicer. I have missed it while it was there. So it hasn't had much play for a while - until now. Definitely not selling this bass, as I like having a fretless to noodle on. I'll be taking it to band practice (the band I got it for) shortly. Might even gig it in a few weeks. If you see one of these, and you've got a hankering for some fretless... these are nice basses. I really like the flexibility of tone, with the added piezo in the bridge - and I'm not usually keen on active basses. Cheers 😀

    I have a China made version of this bass, and it's absolutely awesome. Super lightweight - yet the sound is immense. Did some studio recording with mine just the other day, and the sound engineer was mightily impressed with the tone. Easy on the shoulders for those long gigs, great sound, slim easy neck, and with a very different look. Someone needs to buy this bass now! 😀

    Thanks for your responses folks. I had thought they were all active - just thought I'd check. I had wondered whether the pickups would work well, without power, which I why I wondered whether they'd been swapped. TBH I still haven't removed them to check properly. They seem absolutely fine - so I guess if that bit ain't broke... Like you @casapete I think I prefer the bass as passive, which is generally my preference anyway. i need to get some fretwork done. They're all in good shape, with plenty of life left in them, but the ones at the heel end are a tad higher than the rest. I just need to get the action down a bit more, and this will be an amazing bass. These are so light for a 34" scale bass. The necks are also slim and Jazz-like, which I prefer, especially lately.

    I had one of these. As @Canzonasays, they have the sound and feel of a full sized acoustic upright, but in a smaller bodied instrument. I wish I could have justified keeping mine, especially as these will now surely appreciate in value, since being discontinued. GLWTS

    Hi all. I took this bass in trade some time back, and I have a question about its electronics. I previously had one of these, and it had active electronics. My memory might be failing me - but I thought they were all active. However this one is passive. I can see that some soldering has taken place - but i can't tell whether this was once active or not? I'm not sure there's room for a battery? I removed the pickup covers a while back, and couldn't see evidence of tampering, or tell if these were replacements. Did Fender Japan make a passive P Lyte? Or has someone converted this one? I'm sure someone in here will know. Cheers all Edit: The output from the pickups / electronics is loud btw.

    Several bands and solo artists last Sunday, at Tredegar house folk festival. Ending the night, was the brilliant Steve Knightly. TFF is a small festival, with lots of free acts and world / folk dancing troupes - which is always entertaining. You can spend 3 days watching/ listening to mostly unknown artists for free. There's a good CAMRA real ale & cider bar, and a small selection of festival type food. On the Saturday & Sunday, there was also an arts, crafts & food market, which was probably around 30 stalls. Having seen Steve with Show of Hands as a duo, trio and 4 piece, he's also really good as a solo act. Very entertaining, even when he had some real tuning problems with his guitar. As usual he played 4 or 5 instruments. He did a great, slow version of the Waterboys "Fisherman's Blues"

    I had one of these, sometime back. I made the mistake of selling, when attempting to thin the herd.... and I missed it. But hey, one came up for sale on here, and it was local to me - so I decided to take a trip down memory lane and gave it a whirl. The upshot of that, was me buying it. These China-made Classic Vibe basses are indeed absolutely brilliant, and well worthy of cult status.
