Hi @jrixn1 - the stock pickups sound great in my older (China made) CV too. I did briefly swap them for a Fender Vintage pickup, but I the difference was barely noticeable. Since then I have another project for the pickup - so I put the stock ones back in. Yes, the necks on CV's are just lovely, and I love playing mine too

So sorry to hear this @Telebass. Always sad to hear of ageing / health woes, and especially among fellow BC members. Just wondering whether it's worth considering a really small UKE bass, or some similarly tiny, lightweight option - perhaps for some acoustic jams? Or maybe even just noodling at home on the sofa? I only suggest this as I know just how much I would miss playing music. Take care, look after yourself, and all the best.

When I first walked in to my local PMT, they had the 2x8 cab as well as the 1x10. Now I wish I had tried the 2x8 when I saw it - the guys in the shop were raving about the sounds from it. The cab wasn't there long, a customer bought it as soon as he heard it. They sold one of the Elf heads and a 1x10 combo, plus another 1x10 cab the same day. Mind you, if I had heard the 2x8, I might now have two cabs more than I need

Just a quick update, and to say thanks @jimbartlett I went back to my local PMT the other day and had a listen to the Elf 1x10, and I really liked it - So I bought it Took it to a rehearsal that same afternoon, and it sounded great with my EUB and bass guitar. I can't get over how much punch it has, what a great range of sounds it can produce (EUB and BG were set up with very, very different EQ's). Although there's no tweeter, it produced some really sweet higher frequencies when needed. Moreover, although I've got other compact lightweight cabs - the Elf 1x10 is so light & compact, it's lighter than any of my others. The built-in solid handle is great too. I've got a few gigs coming up this month, and the Elf is going to be a real boon - especially at one festival where I know I'm going to be parked some way from the venue. I can do all my acoustic duos (and some of the trios) in one trip from the car now. Thanks all for your thoughts. One very happy Elf owner here

I wasn't actually looking for a new cab. I've already got 3 cabs, all of which are lightweight. I tend to use them in different combinations, depending on which band (or genre) I'm playing with and what the venue is like. However, I saw one of these in my local PMT shop in Cardiff, and was blown away by how compact & lightweight it was (They're around 7.5 kg!). Anyhow, I walked away and did a little research online, and decided to go back to the shop and have a listen. I was immediately sold when I heard it, and even more when I picked it up - with a built-in solid handle, it's so easy to carry. I took it along to a rehearsal, not having tried it with upright / EUB (they didn't have anything upright-wise in PMT) - I was wondering what it would sound like, and again, I was blown away as soon as I plugged my EUB into it. Also rehearsed with my mates Fender Jazz, and both basses sounded great through this cab. Took it back home and tried it with other cab combinations (Epifani UL 110, Greenboy Crazy 8, Markbass Traveller 2x10) and I must say, I'm really glad I bought this cab It's even lighter than the crazy 8 and even easier to carry than the Epifani. I've got a couple of acoustic duo & trio gigs coming up, including a festival, where I anticipate having to park some way from the venue - this cab will mean I'll be able to carry everything in one trip. https://www.pmtonline.co.uk/trace-elliot-elf-1x10-speaker-cab?gclid=CjwKCAjwmeiIBhA6EiwA-uaeFeGY7NsXgC7s7hgyRooyuua1ktnu2re3ZiySevxco97K-Apn7iyC8RoCDJ8QAvD_BwE

I have always really liked the look of these. I played one in a shop, years ago, and it was superb. Never got around to buying one (I've long been in the position of already having too many basses to justify it - lol) Anyhow, I bought a block & bound CV Jazz neck from here on BC, and put it on a Squier VM P/J Precision body (also bought here on BC) - and I love it. Sometimes I wish the body was black, like this one - sometimes I'm glad it's sunburst. Cracking basses which punch way above the price range IMHO. My preferred gigging P bass is one of the earlier CV's in Sonic blue - it's my fave P bass ever If I was looking for another bass, I'd definitely want one of these, particularly as they are brilliant value second-hand. Happy NBD

Welcome back - hope everything is OK

Thanks again for your thoughts @jimbartlett The 1x10 does have some fans who've posted YouTube videos. I'm quite tempted to go for the 1x10 cab - as it's even lighter than my Epifani Perhaps even use it along with my Epifani, for those louder gigs. Must try to get to hear one.

Just resurrecting this (rather) old thread. I only just became aware of these cabs - they had an Elf 208 in my local PMT in Cardiff. I didn't ask to hear the cab, and I really wish I had. I only found the Elf 1x10 when searching for the specs for the 208, and I was amazed at how lightweight the 1x10 is. Currently, I use a rather nice Epifani UL1x10 and a Greenboy Crazy8 (sometimes use them together) But I wish I knew someone local who had the Trace 1x10, so I could compare it with my Epifani All this is because no matter how lightweight + compact my gear is.... I'm always looking for something ever more compact & lightweight Anyone on here compared the Trace 1x10 with other 1x10 cabs?

I was looking at the Trace Elliot Elf 2x8, and thinking it might be a nice lightweight option. The TC 208 does look good value though. I've got a TC BG250-208 combo amp in our guitarists studio, and I like that tiny amp a lot. Anyone on here compared the Trace Elliot 2x8 with the MB, or with the TC Cab?

For sale ONLY, this beautiful bass is a very rare beast. Dating from the mid 80's - it's an "A" series MIJ Squier, intended for the Japan market only, rare in 32" scale, rarer still in this unusual finish. The body is scaled down in size, and in proportion to the neck. So it's light (from memory, around 3.5kg). The colour is something else. It's a dark green metallic finish, and the metallic components have a dichroic effect - this means the colour changes depending on the lighting & viewpoint. Sometimes it's dark green, sometimes purple, or blue/purple, & sometimes black. The bass is a typical high quality Fender Japan instrument. It sounds just like a P as you'd expect, and the neck is slender with a lovely "feel" to it. The only downside... There is a small "split" in the wood, by the E string tuner. It's a few mm long, it's not deep - it looks like a previous owner overtightened one of the screws. I got Cardiff luthier Dave Dearnaley to check it out - he carefully cleaned out the split and put some glue into it. He told me it's a very strong glue he uses for his custom guitar builds and DB & violin neck repairs. I have reflected this repair in the asking price. The body work / finish is excellent, especially given its age. There's hardly a mark on it. The scratchplate has slightly yellowed. I will include a nicely padded gigbag. Currently strung with rounds (Dunlop, I think). NO TRADES please - I need to thin the herd. Collection only, from Cardiff - I prefer not to post such a lovely bass. (But I may be able to meet you somewhere convenient. I have a decent battery powered amp.)

Price Drop (due to incoming / NBD) : £630 I thought this bass was a "keeper" - my ideal fretless. Sadly, situations change, and I'm just not using this lovely bass. It was obviously once a fretted bass, but the de-fret job has been done nicely. The inlays / fret lines are very slim. The fingerboard is a lovely dark rosewood. EDIT: Made in Japan in 1987 or 88. There are several chips, dings + scratches to the body, the largest of which are at the rear + bottom edges, and are about the size of a 20p coin - it's all just a bit of "mojo" and commensurate with the age of the bass. Most of which are not noticeable when you're playing this bass, or from an audience viewpoint. The neck on this bass is in great condition - no scratches on the back. It feels absolutely lovely to play. It sounds lovely and feels awesome to play. It is only 3.8kg - light for a Jazz. NO TRADES please - I need to thin the herd. Collection only, from Cardiff - I prefer not to post such a lovely bass. (But I may be able to meet you somewhere convenient. I have a decent battery powered amp.)

Hi again Mr Bassman. How do the D'Addario tapewounds bow? - not that I play much with a bow.... Still. But I keep promising myself that one day, when I have more time, I will play & practice more with a bow..... So I don't want strings that aren't suitable for bowing. Thanks for your thoughts again good sir 😊
