  1. Cracking colour. Nice & Lightweight, Precision pickups..... What's not to like
  2. Hmmm, have you ever thought of making these pickups to order? I'm sure there are enough fans of the Wal sound on here to be willing to buy from you.... You could colour me interested for that matter
  3. @prowla - do it! "Ronniebarker" basses - that made me smile on this damp, dreary morning
  4. Sorry to be late wishing you a happy NBD @funkle I discovered the Squier CV range a few years back when I got my CV 60's P in Fiesta Red (one of the earlier ones, made in China) For the life of me, I can't think why I sold it on - must be because I just had too many... haven't I always Anyhow, Since then I picked up one of the even earlier (first models 2008? 2009?) Precisions, also made in China, in light Powder Blue And it's my fave P bass ever. US and MIM Precisions have come & gone....but this one is going nowhere. It has become my go-to bass, to the extent that I'm playing other basses less and less Like @Woodinblack, I previously wasn't particularly a fan of the 50's P bass - perhaps like him, it was partly down to the shape of the pickguard? I've definitely come around to that shape now though.... but I mustn't start thinking about buying one - Mrs S will NOT be pleased if I acquire any more lol
  5. It looks fairly similar for me too tbh. My NS design EUB sits on its' stand, and stays pretty much in the same position. I sometimes have to shift it a little during the gig, as our lead guitarist tends to wander quite a bit.... and start occupying more room My amp is a Markbass EVO1, with two inputs - so switching between EUB and Bass guitar is quick. I then just need to swing my mic stand, to suit whichever instrument I'm playing. Not always as easy as I'd like... but nothing a little bit of shuffling won't fix. Sometimes the band decides to drop or add songs, or switch the order around, or do a request - so I need to be able to switch instruments quickly.... or just play on whatever I've currently got in my hands. I did try the same with my acoustic upright, but being much larger, it was more of a pain to swap between songs - more cumbersome, time consuming, and more likely to snag on cables etc. I just find it easier with my EUB on a stand. Funny thing is, I usually get more comments / compliments / chats about the EUB than my acoustic DB EDIT: There are just some songs which I prefer to play on upright, and others I wouldn't attempt! lol Besides, I quite like playing both at a gig too.
  6. Just putting this out there, I realise the marketplace is quite slow atm, and very understandably so.... In light of this, even though I previously said "No trades" - I've decided to add a possible one - if you have a Status, like the one he plays here in his video of Kirsty MacColl's "Walking Down Maddison" and "Days". (Or if you have something of very similar size / design / weight) I know I also said "5 strings aren't for me" but I think I should maybe persist and have another go especially if it's something so neat & compact. So if you've got a Status like Guy's (sorry I don't know the Model) or something really similar, I might consider a trade, obviously with cash your way, if it's as valuable as Guy's bass EDIT: I also realise this is not something that's that much of a possibility! lol - I'm just putting it out there
  7. I too started my venture into upright with a Stagg. I just couldn't get on with those awful brackets, supplied with the bass. I've owned & tried several EUB's and like @Silvia Bluejay, I find they all tend to swivel whilst playing them... with the exception of the Eminence (the T-bar attachment worked pretty well IMHO, though it could possibly have done with being a bit longer). Since these days I only play upright when I'm doubling up (i.e. half a gig on Bass guitar, half on EUB) - I find a stand, like @Paul S uses, is the best method for me. I appreciate that there are many who prefer to move and "dance" when playing upright, but it wouldn't be practical to store an upright on stage, and be swapping over between songs... Besides, I still play my acoustic upright too (though mainly at home these days) - so I'm doing at least some practice on that.... Before I sold my Stagg EUB, I got a second-hand stand from a group on FaceBook. I think it was a cymbal stand, if my memory serves me correctly.... Anyhow, I opted for a fairly heavy duty one, and it was fairly stable when played. The only downside was that it was quite heavy additional "baggage"
  8. Nice looking bass. Love that colour, and really like the neck GLWTS
  9. Back up for sale. Again, I'm hoping for a socially distanced meet-up / hand-over..... When we are allowed to do so. The more I think about this bass though, the more I'm tempted to just keep two Jazz basses..... what the heck! lol
  10. Just wondering what you decided to do with this bass @lobematt ? It doesn't look that bad, in all honesty. I'd be tempted to have a go at repairing it myself - you might learn some valuable lessons about repairs..... Otherwise, list it on eBay - as there's always someone out there who fancies "having a go". Best of luck with it anyway, and moreover, sorry to hear of this accident
  11. He keeps saying it's 100% genuine & original..... a bit too often for my liking That decal does look a bit off-position. I must say, I like the colour of the body though
  12. Sorry to hear you're giving up on gigging @karlfer - I know its $hitt ATM - but I'm sure things will improve some time in the future, and we'll all be playing live again. Also, good to hear you fixed the electrical problem with a Kiogon loom - I'm sure this bass will work fine now. Lastly, this bass looks amazing! MIJ / CIJ Fender basses are superb IMO, and if I didn't have (more than) a full compliment already, I'd be sorely tempted. GLWTS and more importantly - keep the faith good sir
  13. I had one of these, and it was a great bass. Great build quality & finish, with a very wide range of tonal options. Even though I'm not really a 5 string player - there are times I wish I hadn't sold mine.... I let it go too cheaply.... and perhaps I should just have persisted a bit more with playing a 5er? This is a good price for really nice 5 string - and a very pretty one at that GLWTS @Leon C 2
  14. Any idea what the weight of this bass is? Looks great
  15. We were all obviously waiting for you @ped It took me a while, but I eventually shifted over to flats. I'd argue that they make a Jazz sound better too There's a problem here though.... As soon as you've converted / seen the light etc - you'll "need" a P with flats, and another with rounds. And then perhaps a Jazz with flats, and another with rounds
  16. I used to learn bass lines note for note (when I could determine them all! lol) I well recall having to keep placing the stylus of my record deck, back a few mm to listen, re-listen and re-re-re- listen to riffs and individual notes. Oh the joys of Digital music files and helpful folk on YouTube But these days, I'm far less fussy. Like @Happy Jack, I'm also in several bands, and have sometimes gigged with one band in the afternoon, and another in the evening... only to gig with someone else again the next day. (My "record" is 5 bands at 3 venues in a 24 hour period) Having recently read Guy Pratt's book (very entertaining and well worth a look IMO) I realise that even pro players don't play their own bass lines exactly the same, sometimes. In his book, Guy talks about the time he played on Madonna's "Like a prayer". On listening back to the finished single some time later, with Madge in the control room, Guy asked "Who's playing bass on this one?" and the reply came "You, you dummy!" There are certain songs where playing as close to the original is a must, and others where playing something that's close, or more importantly, something that captures the "mood" of the song is the most important consideration. I've played a few songs where the band have altered the key from the original.... and I've ended up thinking that playing the original bass line in that key doesn't sound quite "right" to my ear, But then, maybe that's just my ageing hearing?
  17. I know what you mean @40hz I too was "off" P basses for quite some time, having owned a couple. I too had my head turned by newer designs and more contemporary sounds. And then I went back to playing a P bass (due to the needs of one of the band projects I was involved with) and my eyes and ears were opened once again Perhaps it's all the more obvious if you haven't owned or played a P bass for a while? There are times when I've sound checked just before a gig, and thought my P bass sounded good. Then, when the band start playing... I can hear it, sitting perfectly in the mix Cutting through, but not being overly loud - sounding just like a P bass should Nice bass too btw. I've had a couple of Roadworn Fenders, which are Mex made, and they are superbly built basses IMO I particularly like the Fiesta Red MIM Classic 50's P. I had a Sunburst Roadworn 50's P, it was great - but I always wished it was Fiesta Red Enjoy
  18. On hold, pending the usual
  19. It looks like my other Jazz has sold (pending the usual, of course). So I'm temporarily withdrawing this bass... Until the other sale is completed.
  20. Hi, sorry @Deepbass I don't know what the wood is. There's an identical body on eBay - that may have the wood type in the description.... I'm guessing someone else on here may know anyway. The weight of the whole bass is 4.5 - 4.6kg, so it's not a super lightweight (my RW Jazz is 3.9 kg).
  21. Nice looking bass @ped. Not tried a Celinder yet, but I hear good things Reading your first post, I particularly liked the words; "Got it bought immediately - I’ll figure out how to afford it later! " If I did that, I'd be in real trouble
  22. Just replying to my own thread here, to say we're in Local lockdown in South Wales, and it looks likely that we'll go into full lockdown in the very near future So it may be difficult, nay impossible to hand this bass over to any prospective buyer in the coming fortnight or so - however, that's still my preferred method of delivery atm sorry.... I don't mind posting a 2 or 300 quid instrument but not a valuable, cracking bass like this beaut
