Thanks for your thoughts @Osiris - yes, looking at them in the shop, I thought the body looked quite "chunky", so I suspected they may not be as light as my Mikro... Cheers again

Hi @Maude - thanks for starting this thread, and thanks to everyone else who has contributed too I've never picked up an Ibby Talman to give one a whirl - even though I've seen them hanging up in my local PMT shop, and found them to be nice looking basses. I do have the 5 string version of the Ibanez Mikro (I took a punt on that, as I had played a 4 string version briefly and quite liked it) Anyhow, I couldn't find a 5 string Mikro in a shop anywhere and PMT couldn't get me one... so I bought online, and am really happy with it - sounds immense, if the string spacing is a little tight... Back to the Talman though - just wondering what the weight of the 4 string is guys? As my age advances, I'm drawn to lighter weight basses - I'm OK ATM, but my shoulder is feeling it when I play for longer these days I'm not planning on getting a Talman currently, but I might do in the future I did own a Fender SS Jazz, but that wasn't much lighter than a full scale (The Mikro is certainly light - around 3kg I think) Cheers folks

Sorry to hear of your woes @Dov65 - I really hope you get it sorted, with the best possible outcome. I wouldn't want the certificate mis-matching the serial number on the bass, as has been mentioned - it would affect sell-on value I think it's up to the retailer to sort this issue. I must say, I've used PMT in Cardiff quite a bit since they set up a few years back, and I have to say, they've been great I've noticed one or two of their instruments have definitely needed a set-up, when tried in their shop - especially recently, but their service has been quick, helpful and friendly. Finger crossed for you mate - let us know how you get on. Best of luck

I had one too. It was a really nice bass, and quite light for a Jazz. Sounded great, felt great to play, and I agree with @Reggaebass - the neck seemed especially nice & comfortable The minus side for me, was that Mrs S really hated the bass - she thought the colour was awful. I tried hiding it in a case, under the bed, or even in my workshop.... But that meant I wasn't playing the bass at all... I had hoped, after a while she would forget about it.... but sadly not - she caught me playing it, and her comments returned, with even more derision So I ended up passing it on, in trade However, if you decide to sell the neck to someone else... hint hint Looking forward to seeing what you put together

Morning @biff600. Well I thought I had the record in not playing bass for ages. I stopped playing for around 25 years. But 30 beats that! lol Welcome back to the fold. Enjoy

Temporarily withdrawn: Fender Roadworn Jazz 3TSB
Marc S replied to Marc S's topic in Basses For Sale
Hmmm, maybe you have a point there @Mister RLP I recently had TI Flats on a P bass, and it just didn't feel quite "right"... however, the same strings on another P bass, and it felt & sounded great.... odd eh? I'd played another Jazz, fitted with flats and thought I'd give them a whirl on this bass - hey presto, I instantly liked it, so the strings stayed put. I'm happy to leave the flats on this lovely Jazz and let the buyer take the nearly-new Rounds for free too - so they have the choice. As you say, maybe the right strings do find the right bass? Cheers now -

Squier Precision 60’s CV FURTHER PRICE DROP-NOW £325.
Marc S replied to Zummerbass's topic in Basses For Sale
Hi, Zummerbass must have missed your questions @RaNoFuNkY & @Scoobs I can confirm, this is indeed a standard 60's CV neck Can't recall the exact dimensions, but it was near identical to a US Precision which had a "C" shape / profile neck. It wasn't overly wide at the nut, and definitely on the shallower side in profile (front to back). The neck on this is really comfortable to play - I'm not keen on necks that are wide and deep. It's also glossy, but I didn't find it became "sticky" in warm conditions. Wish I could justify re-acquiring this bass - it's a beaut -
I too had one of these, and really regret selling mine I previously wasn't that fussed about the colour, but as soon as I owned one of these - I simply loved the colour, and the pickguard and dark Rosewood fretboard Looks absolutely lush IMHO Like so many of us on here, I too have too many in my collection.... or I'd be looking for another one of these! GLWTS

PRICE: £750 (original control plate only) I can't believe I'm doing this, as I'm a fan of the RW series... but I need to thin the herd (I've just got too many). FOR SALE ONLY is my superb Fender Roadworn Jazz bass. It's one of the earlier models to be available. I played a new one in a shop recently, in rather fetching Fiesta Red, and it didn't feel half as nice as this one. Those in the know, will appreciate just how good these basses are. They feel "worn-in" and well played, and look and sound the business. I weighed it on some accurate digital scales, and it's around 3.8 - 3.9 Kgs - which is very light for a Jazz. I fitted a Kiogon Stacked control wiring loom and added a Brass earth strip, for that added touch of 60's vibe. I grew to really like the added option of a tone control on each pickup. The price includes the original control plate too - but I'm willing to drop my asking price a bit, if you only want the original control plate. Collection only please, I'm in South Wales. I always prefer to let the buyer try before buying, and make sure everyone's happy, and I prefer not to trust couriering expensive instruments. I'm happy to meet halfway somewhere - I've got a battery amp, so you can test the bass. Absolutely no trades at all (unless you have a Wingbass) - as I say, I need to thin the herd, sadly It's currently fitted with Flatwound strings - "Flats on a Jazz?" I hear you say I can let you have a nearly new set of Rotosound rounds, if that's your preference - I fitted them for a couple of weeks and then tried flats on the bass, and grew to like it that way EDIT: Now with Original Control plate ONLY - someone wanted the Stacked Control plate separately.

*SOLD* Surf green MIJ 70RI Precision, late 1990s £750 plus post
Marc S replied to Clarky's topic in Basses For Sale
Really nice looking bass @Clarky. I'm a fan of Japanese built Fenders. Never played a bad one yet. Looks like an ideal neck for those of us who prefer a slightly slimmer nut width too If I was looking for a P bass (and I can't - I already have too many!) I'd be all over this. Lovely colour, not seen a MIJ / CIJ in that colour before GLWTS sir EDIT: "I only need one Precision bass".....er? No, you don't... you need two, or possibly three -
Anyone on here get one of these Flingy basses?
-
@Daveyboyrooster - firstly, I'm sorry to hear of your redundancy woes Secondly, I've dealt with Daveyboy in the past, and he's a decent sort, and good, trusted BC'er - so buy with confidence folks Thirdly, thanks to @Henrythe8 for that concise list of neck profiles... very useful, cheers Fourthly (if there's such a word) GLWTS mate, and all the best for a decent outcome re the job situation

I never used to understand why, on a sales thread, people always seemed to ask about the weight of a bass... However, as the years advance... I fully understand! I've got several basses (too many) and when I'm expecting to play longer gigs or sessions - these days I always favour my lighter basses.... Just being half a kilo or so can make a difference to my shoulder at the end of a long evening's playing My own preference is to lean toward a Fender, or Fender shaped bass - so I'm tempted lately by lighter basses of that brand. But I've heard good reports about Maruszczyk basses, and often pondered one of their chambered bodied range. I'll be interested to see what you opt for @Bernardo - good luck with your search

Fender Road Worn 2T Sunburst P Bass SOLD PLEASE REMOVE!
Marc S replied to Daveyboyrooster's topic in Basses For Sale
I bought a Roadworn P from Daveyboy, several years back. The neck on that one had also been slimmed / modified by the same Luthier Daveyboy used on this one I've played other Roadworn Fenders, including a Precision with its' standard neck (and I've owned a RW Flea Jazz, and currently own a Roadworn 3TSB Jazz) Yes, the necks are all superb on the Roadworn Fender basses - but I have to say, the Luthier in question did an absolutely top job on that RW P I had. In fact, I wouldn't have known that it had been altered at all, unless I'd compared it to other Roadworn Precisions.... The woodwork was neat, and the finish felt superb It's the very same comfortable, "worn-in" feel - but it's just that bit slimmer... It felt more comfortable to my left hand anyway If you want a Roadworn P, but prefer a slimmer neck - then this is the bass for you -

As others have said, a Fender Japan Jazz would be a good option I'd also like to say that one of my faves is the Roadworn Jazz, available in either 3TSB or Fiesta Red New, they're both over £1k now - but a second-hand one, from someone here on the BC marketplace would be a smart move Go for an earlier one too. I played a brand new one in a shop recently (purely cos it was Fiesta Red, and mine is 3TSB) and it was nice, but not as comfortable as my older model

Fender Road Worn 2T Sunburst P Bass SOLD PLEASE REMOVE!
Marc S replied to Daveyboyrooster's topic in Basses For Sale
Yes, I purchased that one sometime back, and it was a great bass - the neck re-profiling was a top job In the end, I only traded it on because I was after something similar, but with a Rosewood fretboard.... Although there are times when I wish I hadn't... still I'm happy with the P basses I now own (and in fact, I still have too many! lol) Yes, I'm well thank you good sir - hope you are too? Just wanted to add, that Daveyboy is a top BC'er and these basses are superb GLWTS mate -

Hello Lee / @meterman Shwmae from South Wales. I know Brighton quite well. My sister lives in Saltdean. Really like the area - but if I lived anywhere around there....I'd be spending too much time in GAK! lol Lockdown isn't driving me too crazy - partly because I was halfway there already... And I'm not going stir crazy, because I've been in work the whole time anyway Just missing family, and missing jamming with pals + gigging, of course The colour on that old Bullet of yours looks fab. Shame you had to sell it Now you can use lockdown to search for another one Welcome to BC

@MoJo - what headphones are you using BTW? Just out of interest.... as I'm thinking I may go down a similar route...
