  1. As others have said, "better" is largely subjective. And I've heard some budget speakers sound as good as some more expensive models Re your question about whether a 15" is better than say a 4x10 My observation here is that a 15" can sometimes sound too "boomy" - depending on which bass you're using, which amp head, what the venue size & layout is etc etc However, as someone who doubles up on Bass guitar and upright (Acoustic or EUB) - I must say, I've never been happy with 15"s. I always seemed to end up with either uncontrollable "boom" or else a really wooly, undefined bottom end of the tonal range. 12's, 10's and even 8's I've been much happier with. Smaller speakers seem to deliver a much tighter, punchier tone Of course, to move the same amount of air as a larger speaker, you may then need more speakers Given the choice of a 15 or a 4 x 10, for my purposes, I'd go for the 4 x 10 But really I'd prefer two 2 x 10 cabs - to give me flexibility for instance, some times I'm playing smaller venues or acoustic gigs
  2. Briefly tried one of these a few months back - just out of curiosity. Really like the colour, and it looks great with the maple fretboard As has been said, these are great basses for the money, and as this one is virtually brand new - it's even better value for money Cracking bass. GLWTS @Sibob
  3. @gjones that Strat looks to be the same colour as my CV P bass, which is Sonic Blue. I'm not sure whether it's a Classic Vibe for certain - but I would guess that they may have released a Strat in the same colour, during the 1st runs of Classic Vibe instruments. I played a CV Strat in Sunburst, and though I'm no guitarist (I dabble a bit, occasionally) it seemed a well put-together, nicely finished guitar, and felt very comfortable to play IMO. My CV Precision is absolutely lovely. I need to thin the P bass herd, and I'm not selling that one. It's my first choice when I need a Precision. Super comfortable neck, quite lightweight, lovely construction quality & finish, and great sound. I previously had a Fiesta Red CV Precision, and foolishly sold it. That was among the slightly later batch of Classic Vibes, and still great quality, though my 2009 CV is a tad nicer still. Those early China made CV's are really superb. The newer Indonesian made CV's are pretty good instruments, but I've played a few now, and they're not in the same league as the earlier China made CV's. Construction of the Indonesian CV's is good, but the finish is not quite as nice, they don't seem quite as good quality and just don't "feel" quite as nice to play. The few I've tried in shops, also seem a little heavier. I didn't take scales with me to check the weight (lol) but they did seem heavier.... Like I say though, they are pretty good instruments - just not as good as the Chinese CV's I really wish I'd bought that Sunburst Strat I tried.... and I really really wish I'd kept my Fiesta Red CV Precision EDIT: Re the glossy finish on the necks - I used a super fine abrasive cloth on my CV P bass neck. It has made the finish feel more smooth, and "quicker" / less likely to be "sticky" when I'm sweating, whilst retaining its' appearance i.e. I haven't taken much off the surface of the finish EDIT2: - Apologies @uk_lefty - I meant to ask whether your CV was a Chinese or Indonesian one?
  4. Lovely looking bass. Cracking colour Happy NBD. Enjoy, and let us know what you think of the bass
  5. Play some fretted basses first - try out as many as you can. Are there any kindly BC members out there, who are willing to let you try out their fretted Wals? I've found out the hard way, that if you really really like a bass, and feel that you "bond" with it - then you should probably keep it Can you justify owning two basses (I certainly find a way of justifying owning rather more than that! lol) Though it's an expensive way of doing things, in this case I'd be tempted to get the Wal fretted. I'm just thinking that if you sell, and then get sellers regret.... you may not be able to find another bass you like as much as this one.
  6. Just go with whichever bass seems most comfortable, both in standing up, and seated positions. Add to that, which you think sounds best. Bear in mind though - you can always upgrade pickups at a later date. As with many of us on here, you may end up buying your favourite bass.... only to add the other one to your collection a little while down the line! Try as many other basses as you can too - don't suddenly get one on a whim - unless you instantly feel "This is the best yet - this is the one for me" In which case - just get that bass... Good luck with your search and let us know what you decide
  7. I have one just like this. It's a great EUB, and the pre-amp is superb GLWTS
  8. Yes, I'd have thought condensation could play some part in causing damage to either the electronics or speaker cone of a bass cab.... Perhaps even corrosion of contact surfaces such as Jack or Speakon sockets? It's not something that I've done, or would advise. I've perhaps kept amp gear in a car boot (out of sight of potential thieves) for a night, during warmer weather.
  9. Hi @JimmyN2 - from just across the water, in South Wales Yes, I found that my amps had to get lighter and lighter as time has marched on Lighter and more compact... even better. I often double up, with bass guitar and upright - so weight and bulk are ever more important to me Happy search for an EUB. They are mostly quite different beasts to acoustic upright basses And the search for that elusive "Magic" EUB can be frustrating at times, but also fun, and something of an adventure I'm left handed too - BUT, I play right handed instruments. Funnily enough, I thought I was pretty unique on this matter Turns out though, that there are quite a few bassists and guitarists who do the same! I also know several violin players who are left handed - because they have never even seen a left handed violin Welcome to BC matey EDIT: PS - I also meant to say, I really like Bristol, and get there from time to time. Great place!
  10. Can't believe this bass is still here, especially at this price Lovely basses, Limelights. I can't imagine selling mine GLWTS
  11. I had a Westone Thunder Jet many years back. A mate bought it from me in the 1980's.... and he still has it, and it's still his go-to bass Must admit, I always had a liking for them, and particularly in that finish on yours. Really like the combo of different woods. Being a P/J pickup arrangement is a boon too IMO Happy NBD - enjoy
  12. I was thinking, for a bit more "bottom end oomph" - perhaps use an octaver type pedal, one of the models which gives you an octave below? Might help get a deeper sound
  13. I had a very brief play on a half size DB a few months back. Actually, I found it wasn't that small by comparison to a 3/4 upright. A Cello, converted to be a bass, would be quite markedly smaller and more portable than a half-size, I think Just wondering how much more tension there would be in the strings, if tuned like a bass, and what long term that effect might have I recall a Cello Bass for sale on here, and it had some sagging in the front of the bass - due to the tension of strings and I think, other modifications, like the bridge....
  14. Watching this with interest. When I think about this topic lately, this band "The Dead South" comes to mind. Actually, I haven't worked out the notes to this song yet.... So apologies for not spotting how the players Cello is tuned But it's a great video, which I'd recommend. Any comments from the sharp eyed among you who can see how it's tuned are welcome
  15. Thanks @bassfan - like I say, I don't "need" another bass atm, but it's good to know such things as your shoulders / back etc get older.....
  16. Any idea of what the weight of these "Lyte" P basses might be? I don't need one.... I don't need one... I don't need one.... But it's either my shoulder, or a little voice just over my shoulder, telling me I should at least try one of these out someday
  17. Oops - sorry I only just saw this reply. I'll PM you first @Malvis
  18. I'll second that. It does look a nice bass for the money - especially having had the work done on it too GLWTS
  19. Indeed. Bilbo is spot on here. I don't play my fretless nearly enough (I bought it to noodle on) but when I do play it, I find my whole approach to playing has to be a bit different. As @itu says - it "sings" in a different way
  20. Hi, I've got a single Oliv G 3/4 DB string for sale. I bought it used, from someone on here ages ago. Never actually got around to using it (or even fitting it) I'd bought it to experiment with, and never got around to trying it out I'm now settled on D'Addario Zyex strings, and can't see me using this now. I'm not sure how much use it has had - though I seem to recall the seller informing me that it hadn't had much use
  21. Nadolig Llawen, my fellow bass people.
