Thanks for that @Gareth Hughes. I never tried an MB LMK head either. I did own a CMD 102P, and still own the traveller 210 cab. The 102 was a great combo, I must say. I'll keep my eye out for a used LMK, but I'm leaning towards maybe getting myself an EVO1 - they're still making them. I don't know how long they've produced them for? But they look great, and I'm confident of the quality of their equipment. I know a lot of DB players like Acoustic Image gear, but again I've not tried any AI amps myself. They're also quite expensive. It would also be nice to hear from anyone who plays DB and BG, through an Acoustic Image amp too.... now I'm not asking too many questions am I?

Thanks for your thoughts @jrixn1 I should have mentioned, I'm trying to cut down on pedals & cables. Aside from being more stuff to forget when packing the van, or trip over myself while on stage - I played a gig recently where we were really cramped, and the lead guitarist stepped on my A,B,Y pedal, switching me from EUB to bass, mid song! And on another occasion either he or I had accidentally unplugged me, between songs! lol I know you're probably going to say "shoot the guitarist then!" - but he's a decent sort, really Aside from that, I sometimes already use the A,B,Y switch, my MXR DI pedal and my TC Body Res (when playing EUB). And that's enough for me. It's a twin input head I'm really after - with 2 separate channels. Thanks for your suggestions though - and I'm intrigued at what you think of the SpectraDrive pedals? Of course, my ABY switch and two separate EQ pedals might be another solution? But I really do fancy a dual channel head, with just 2 leads going into it and no pedals - awkward so-and-so, In know

Just wondering what fellow BC'ers experiences and thoughts are, for those who play both DB or EUB and bass guitar for some gigs? I went through a phase of doing this in a couple of bands, a few years back. And this now seems to have been resurrected by one of the bands, and a duo I'm in. On hearing of me doing this, another band has asked me to double up, where I only played bass guitar before. So I can see me doing this more often. I must say, I've really enjoyed doubling up at the last couple of gigs. I bought myself a tiny Euphonic Audio 500W micro bass head from someone on here, a few years back. Now the EA really is tiny - I mean it's incredibly tiny and lightweight. So much so, that I could fit it in the glove compartment of my car, to carry about as a spare! lol BUT, I've never been quite 100% happy with the sound. It's pretty good, but a little "flat" or "hifi-like" to my ears. There have been times when it sounds great when I'm just playing Upright - but these have been times when it's just an acoustic duo or trio. Played a gig the other week, out-doors on the back of a big lorry. Sounded OK with EUB, but a bit "nasal" with bass guitar, and didn't quite hit the lows I can usually achieve - even with my Dunlop MXR DI pedal.... Since then, I'm finding that even though both EQ's are separately controlled - I'm less satisfied with the sound. I think this may be partly due to me having changed my EUB, and the strings on my acoustic DB, but I've also gradually changed my speaker cabs over the past year or so as well. Now, I know I'm perfectly happy with my upright strings, and with my speaker cabs (I've got 3 different cabs which I change around to suit the band / venue etc) - I also use a TC Electronic BG550 head, which only has a single input. I can get a sound I'm really pleased with, using the TC head, whether I'm playing DB or BG, and whichever cab(s) - but swapping between upright and Bass Guitar, the EQ's I need are so different.... Has anyone got any suggestions for an amp head with 2 separately controlled channels? I like the look of the Markbass EVO1. I like Markbass gear (I've got a traveller 210 - it's great, and it's light) I've not tried an EVO1 personally, and am wondering if any of my fellow DB'ers use one, or have any other suggestions? Really enjoyed seeing those air bass sofa and chair photos @nige1968 and @Maude - made me laugh aloud But nige 1968....... isn't your sofa a bit close to the wall? Do you not risk chipping the paint on the headstock of your air bass? PS. Guys - what are your preferences for style of air bass strap?

Yes, Teebs and Reggaebass are quite likely to be correct During the past few weeks, I've had the same thing happen to two of my basses The 2nd one, whilst it was at my local guitar shop, just having been set up They confirmed they'd had several guitars in the shop which this had happened to as well.... It also happened to me last year, but I think that was when the temperature had lowered suddenly. If you're not sure how to do it - perhaps ask a friendly local BC member? And remember not to do too much adjustment each time. I've heard people talk about doing just a quarter turn every hour (or is it half hour?) to let things "settle". Also, don't be tempted to force the trussrod, if it feels really stiff.

My backup depends on which band I'm with, and what my "main" instrument is. For a while, I was taking my tiny Tanglewood Elfin as backup - as like you, I prefer to have a backup, just in case, but don't normally intend to use it. For another band, I was using a P for one set, and a Jazz for the next (as part of our needs for that particular band / show) - so my backup was there anyway As for 5 string backup, I was going to suggest maybe a 2nd hand Sire or maybe a Squier (new or even better, 2nd hand) I've not really played my 5 string much at all, and it's just a tad heavy. So I got myself an Ibanez Mikro - the 5 string version. Now you don't see many of those about, but I got one from Europe. It's tiny & very light (think it's 26" scale) and sounds surprisingly good The B string sounds better than some full scale 5 strings I've played too Now I just need to re-familiarise myself with 5'ers and with the very short scale

I didn't - I said the older CV's took "some beating" - as my example, I mentioned both mine were really not far short of a (very good) US P I once had (I sold the US before the CV.... and regretted selling the CV more!) It was you who in your post, suggested that CV's are "Still available" - they're still available, but being built in a different factory, from different materials, and in a different country As it happens, two good friends work in local guitar shops (well, one mate actually owns his shop). They both say that the newer CV's are pretty consistent with the other MII instruments..... Now, don't you think we should let this sales thread be a sales thread? You're welcome to PM me, if you need any further info, of course -

Yes, people say the new ones are very good. However, the China made CV's are absolutely superb. They were made in the same factory as the Matt Freeman signature basses, which is different factory to the Affinity series instruments. The newer CV's are made in Indonesia - I believe the same factory as the Vintage Modified series. The VM's are really good for the money - but having had both VM and CV basses - the CV's made in China are several steps up from the indonesian made VM series. I had a Fiesta Red CV and a US made P at the same time - and there really wasn't much in it, quality-wise. Perhaps the pickup on the US and maybe the tuners were better. I now have one of the earlier CV P's in pale blue - and that's even better. I'm sure the new Indonesian range of CV's are good though, but these older China made ones take some beating -

I'm surprised this is still here, given the quality of Classic Vibe Squiers. I've had two (still got one) and I regretted letting the previous one go Utterly superb quality, sound and "feel" to these instruments. The white P basses don't seem to come up too often either (not sure if they didn't make as many as they did in Fiesta Red?) These are collectors pieces of tomorrow. But I prefer it with the non-original Tort plate BTW -
yes, I really do play music, so that I can enjoy gigging. Fortunately (or is it unfortunately) I'm in several bands, doing different genres, and I do covers and some originals - cos I like both. Perhaps I'm a bit too busy at times, with gigs coming up for several bands, in a short space of time - lots to remember.... but I'd miss it if any one of the bands folded...... Originals are generally played in the "right" sort of venues, where they're either wanted, or tolerated well. Generally, we play where they're wanted. I also enjoy playing covers in the most suitable venues for cover material too. I enjoy seeing people dance & sing along to songs they know. Occasionally, a gig doesn't go quite "right" which happened at a charity fest I played on Saturday. The onstage sound was terrible, and the sound guy couldn't fix the very low frequency feedback type of "drone". However, the crowd didn't seem to hear it, and they enjoyed the songs, and the sun was shining and the beer was flowing... so it was a nice experience, especially as it raised some money for a homeless charity I've got to say that recently, most gigs have gone either well, or really well. I stopped playing years ago, with the intention of "keeping my hand in" and jamming along to songs, recording etc. But without the motivation of other musos around me, or the upcoming gig - must rehearse! scenario.... I dropped out of playing, for 25 years! I'd really miss the gigging now, and I'm sure I'd drop back into not playing if I was out of bands now. Each to their own, of course - but yes, yes, yes - gigging for me!

In once owned an SR 500 - one of the earlier models. It was an absolutely stunning bass. Great big sound, superb Bartolini pickups and electrics. I only sold it because I was moving more in the direction of vintage tone. And after getting back into Fenders (with J necks as preference). The necks are very slim - if you like that sort of thing. Turns out, I like my necks somewhere between a slim Ibanez and a chunky Fender P I've seen second-hand SR500's going for silly money, given their quality. They turn up on here now & then - get one from a BC member - perhaps place a wanted ad?

I should say, I had a NS WAV once - it was a great EUB. The only reason I sold it, was to upgrade to another NS model EUB Burns-Bass is a top fella to deal with too - buy in confidence folks EDIT: The original stands on these WAV EUB's are a little on the lightweight side, and can be a bit "wobbly" - mine didn't bother me.... But that replacement stand looks very solid. I used a drum / cymbal stand on another EUB I once owned, and it was solid

Shame you dislike gigging so much. Me, I really love doing it.... usually. There have been a few not so good gigs, a few awful gigs, and some "difficult" punters But the overall experience is that it's a worthwhile thing to do. I always end up shattered - but usually I also have an odd sense of "satisfaction" After a gig, and once I'm home and my gear is unloaded - I can't sleep for a while, and need to wind down, usually with a wee dram, or a cuppa I want to keep gigging for as long as possible - as long as it's not 3 or 4 times a week (too many late nights, at my age lol) But I definitely want to keep playing live music. When the band, and myself get it "right" it's a great feeling

It's with heavy heart that I put this bass up for sale, but needs must (with redundancy and a future house-move on the cards). In great condition for its' age, and a lovely player, with gorgeous vintage sound There are a few dinks and dings on the bass, including a 2mm x 1.5mm x 1mm dink on the back of the neck, around fret 11 - easily filled, though it never bothered me actually. There's a light "bloom" of buckle rash in the usual place, which isn't easy to photograph. The main thing to say about this bass, is that it's otherwise in great condition given it's approaching 40 years old. Somehow, this bass just feels and sounds absolutely awesome - it has a real vintage tone and feel. These basses are rated very highly by people who own and play them, and you have to try one to understand quite why. It's the best feeling and sounding P bass I've ever played. With the job situation being as it is, I have to sell something (not urgently - so no daft offers please) - I just need to thin the herd, as we will be moving house within the next 8 - 10 months, and are down-sizing. I'm gigging with another P bass these days - only because it is slightly lighter weight, and is another great bass. I can no longer justify 3x P basses, plus my P/J Limelight. I may even list another P over the coming days, and keep this one.... as I'm so torn It weighs in at just a shade over 4kg - so is no boat anchor. Like I say, I've got 2 other P's which are lighter - though neither is in my favourite 3TSB, Rosewood, Tort combo. Mrs S said to me the other day "Do you really need two basses the same colour?" of my Roadworn Jazz! I had the bass set up, including a light fret-dress & level, by A-strings of Treforest, near Pontypridd. The frets are in good condition, with plenty of life left in them. I believe everything else is original on the bass (as I was told by the previous BC owner). I did change the control knobs for an old 70's set, as they were in better condition (re the chrome) It's currently wearing a set of worn-in Thomastik Flats. It came with some Dunlop flats, and I tried several other strings, but decided it just felt better with the TI's. I can let you have the Dunlops, or a new set of rounds if you prefer? But I'll leave the TI's on, as they just seem to suit the bass Based in North Cardiff - but I can meet somewhere half way, as I've got amp headphones and a battery amp (Roland) to test at the ubiquitous Motorway services / pub Please note I am NOT looking for any trades at all, and would prefer not to post (abroad or UK) - I also want you to try this bass, and fall for it, like I did, and to know that you've got it safely in your hands In this moment of madness, as I'm typing this, I may decide to either sell another bass instead, or else change my mind completely.... lol I'm asking slightly less than what I paid for it, given that I had the work done on the bass
