  1. Yes, I mentioned Kiogon's wiring looms here, because I think it's a simple swap, and he's also great with help and advice too. Keeping the original harness is a wise choice.... just in case. Keep it in a box, and perhaps as you're removing it - put a label on each wire / lug - to remind you where it goes..... I put a Kiogon stacked control plate into my Jazz recently, and though i've no intention of letting the bass go (I let my previous one go, and missed it so much, I vowed to keep this one) - you never know whether circumstances might change of course. And someone is bound to ask whether I have the original or not! Luckily in my case, the standard Jazz loom would be easy to re-fit, if required
  2. The wiring diagrams above all look slightly more complicated than a map of the London Underground to me... Has anyone asked @KiOgon for advice? I'm sure he could help. His wiring loom kits are brilliant, and moreover, simple to fit, being solder-less
  3. Same two I could first think of. I recall John Lennon's murder really shocking me. Though a lot of his solo stuff wasn't anywhere near as good as his Beatles work, it still seemed a dreadful shock at the time. I was young, and perhaps I thought the Beatles could one day reform - or maybe it was because of the manner of his murder? Perhaps I saw it as the end of an era? Re Joe Strummer, perhaps Paul is right - could the Clash have reformed? Maybe.... I was no huge fan of George Michael, but his death shocked me as he was a similar age EDIT: Just reading MrCrane's post above - I liked Kirsty McColl, and her death was such a sad, tragic accident
  4. Surprised this hasn't gone - they don't come up for sale very often
  5. Oh my word! Beautiful
  6. Lovely looking bass. I must admit, I usually like the look of Godin basses, and this one is no exception Re the fretmarker lines - I've got very fine ones on my MIJ Jazz, and it took a little persistence, but I'm used to them. That said, they're quite fine and dark - so they don't immediately catch the eye - perhaps they give me enough clues / indicators, without distracting me? Is there any way you could "dull them down"? - perhaps with staining? Would that help? Shame to sell such a nice bass
  7. My own thoughts exactly. I've had several PJ's over the last couple of years, and the added J pickup didn't seem to negatively affect the P pickup in any way (not that I could hear) My Limelight PJ sounds absolutely superb - I mainly use the P pickup, and simply add a little J to suit the song or sound I want it to. Works every time for me
  8. Thanks for the info bubinga5, Yes, it can be tweaked - the bridge allows for very fine adjustments, though I think the current spacing is very comfortable IMO. It doesn't seem tightly spaced to me - I tend to struggle with closer spacing... I'm currently trying to get used to the much closer spacing on my new Ibanez Mikro 5 string.... And it's tricky, so is going to take my awkward fingers some time
  9. I meant to ask this too.... but thought I might end up being tempted I must control myself, because I've just sold two and got one in. Must thin the herd
  10. Sorry, I thought I had already marked this bass as "sold"
  11. Lovely bass, in great condition. I can't get over how good my JV P bass is, and how great that sounds This would be the perfect partner to my Precision, if I didn't already have my wonderful Roadworn Jazz bass Sigh, this looks lovely in white with Rosewood board & Tort guard GLWTS - I'm sure someone will snap up this beauty
  12. I've had a question about string spacing on this lovely bass. Sorry the last but one photo isn't too clear But if string spacing is measured from the centre of each string - it is 16.5mm Not sure if that's the standard way people measure string spacing? but it seems the most logical way to me.... I can now offer a "roadworn" vintage Fender G&G hardcase with this bass. It's not mint condition, but looks rather cool and all catches & hinges work great I'm unsure of its' age - but it's most likely from the 1980's or perhaps the early 90's Though I'd prefer collection or a meet-up, I'm happy for you to arrange your own courier (UK only please)
  13. Off to see Wilko Johnson tonight! With the superb Norman Watt-Roy on Bass & Dylan Howe on drums. Glenn Tilbrook supporting :)

      And how did it go?

It was OK thanks. I'd seen Wilko and the guys almost 2 years back, and they were absolutely amazing then
Perhaps because it wasn't too long after his life-saving operation....
Not quite as amazing the other night - but perhaps my expectations were a bit high? Perhaps also, the sound wasn't quite as top-notch as last time
But that said, I was glad I went. Not least because I got myself a Norman T-shirt :) :)
Glenn T was pretty good. He's a great guitarist - nice fella too
He's doing a lot of work and donating CD profits to the Trussell Trust :)

  14. Ah, the fretless MIJ is a '62 RI... So should I keep to Tort? Hmmm
  15. Update - the Tort is back on my Roadworn Jazz. It just looks like it "belongs" there. I think I'd have preferred the pearl if it had been more creamy / yellow / aged However, now I have a new dilemma - shall I put the pearl plate on my MIJ Fretless Jazz? The Tort plate on that isn't as nice as the fretted Jazz... What do you think folks? Thanks for your replies
  16. I fitted a Kiogon stacked knob control plate on my Fender Roadworn Jazz yesterday. Mightily impressed with the sound and tone controls. It sounded good anyway - but brief ownership of a Flea Jazz made me want to try stacked controls on this Jazz. I have to say, I think it's an improvement and I'm well pleased. But I also wanted to try a change of scratchplate (or is it Pickguard?). I had ordered a cheapish one from eBay - it's not quite as yellowed as I had hoped, and I'm not quite sure which I prefer? I am a fan of Tort plates / guards - on the right bass. Just out of interest, which do you prefer?
  17. Very cool looking vintage instrument How does it compare to the modern take on this bass? It looks in great condition for a 1968 bass
  18. Fitted a Kiogon stack control loom to my Roadworn Jazz - Wow! It sounded great anyway, but now sounds even better. Just that bit more "bite" yet still very definitely "Jazz sounding". Simple fit for the loom, can't get over the difference it has made :)

      Is it solderless?

      Marc S

Yes, acidbass. Though I don't actually mind soldering - I'm reasonably OK at it
The beauty of Kiogon's kits, is that you can fit them very quickly. And of course, being solderless - you can make changes very easily eg. swap it onto another bass to experiment etc

  19. I was already a satisfied Kiogon customer, having previously bought wiring loom from John I bought a stack control Jazz loom from him recently. Fitted it yesterday, and boy - was I pleased! Fast build & delivery as ever from John. Top quality components and a nice, easy fit And the Jazz sounds better than I had hoped for. Top man sir - thanks very much for your help once again I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Kiogon's kits for quality and ease of (solderless) fitting Buy with complete confidence BC'ers
  20. Lovely looking bass. As for the knobs - I wouldn't have thought I'd have liked strat versions on a Jazz But oddly enough, I do quite like them. It's a tad different, and does seem to have a 70's look about it 7lbs is light for a Jazz - nice
  21. This bass does look lovely - and it's in my hometown.... I mustn't go to see it, I mustn't... I already have too many! lol I don't often like a bass with matching headstock - but this one looks fab Just wondering though - what profile is the neck?
  22. This is a good suggestion by Al Krow. I once had a Fender P that had had the neck slightly trimmed down, by the previous owners luthier - it was a great job, and the neck felt lovely. Might be a good way to hang onto a present from your Mam.
  23. This one is standard tuning. Short scale strings. These were already correct length, but you may be able to cut down 30" scale strings
