  1. Hi Lee. I'm not sure about the bridge on these. I've seen a few slight variations in them, whenever I come across them for sale - it could be that you're quite correct of course. It's a nice solid bridge, and allows for very smooth, fine adjustments. Yes, the colour is lovely. I bought ita few years back from a fellow local BC member, and I'd gone to his place to buy another (cheaper) 5 string at the time. However, I was instantly smitten by the colour, the look, and superb sound of this bass - so I forked out the extra dosh there & then Sadly, I now really need to downsize (due to other circumstances) and I recently got myself an Ibanez Mikro 5'er to replace this beauty
  2. This tiny 26" scale bass guitar has an amazingly BIG sound. Ideal for teaching your kids the bass guitar, or if you are a guitarist who wants to play a bit of bass, and finds the long necks a struggle. I've even taken this along as a backup! Honestly, it sounds just like the full scale thing! I've also used it with my Roland Bass Cube battery amp, in pub jams. It's super lightweight, at just a tad under 2 kilos! and it's pictured alongside a full scale Jazz for comparison These were made, I believe in the Samick factory, several years back, (happy to be corrected with that, if it's incorrect). They don't come up very often, as I was searching for one for quite some time. I don't need it any more, because I now have an Ibanez Mikro 5 string that will replace it. The beauty is, this bass also has pretty much standard spacing between the strings - so chunky-bass-player-fingered types need not worry - spacing is great. This example is in mint condition, has fairly new strings, and comes with a really nice TGI well padded gigbag (also in great condition) Collection from North Cardiff - or I can meet somewhere fairly local (I do travel about the area a bit) I don't usually like posting - but, if you want to arrange your own courier - I might be tempted as I think I have a suitable box & packing material Absolutely No trades please - I'm thinning my collection
  3. Quick update. Someone messaged me about the weight of this bass - thought I'd let you all know. It's 4.5 kg Also, I may now consider posting this (I've got a box it may fit into) - if you want to arrange your own courier..... Though I'd still prefer collection or a meet-up. I'll be near Birmingham on Tuesday - if that's any nearer for anyone?
  4. Drop me a PM if you're considering a trip to the area Simon Yes, it is something of a Pandora's box of options. But it's also a good journey to be on, discovering new instruments and seeing what's out there
  5. Hi @tom1946, How does the weight compare to the "real thing"? I had one a few years back, and it was quite a heavy beast. Neck was very chunky too - and I never quite got used to those factors. I liked the sound though This does look like a lot of bass for the money. Nice looker too
  6. I only just spotted your reason for selling this bass - and I'm so sorry to hear of your sad loss This bass looks an absolute stunner, and is my favourite colour / combination, with rosewood board and Tort plate I have to say, I've not played a bad Japan Fender yet. I also prefer Jazz necks, generally speaking. But each MIJ / CIJ Precision I've played seems to have a slightly shallower neck, and I've really liked the feel and playability of this. In fact, the extra width of the neck hasn't bothered me at all - it seems more comfortable somehow. If I didn't already have my JVP, in this colour combo - I'd be sorely tempted I may even keep my eye out for an MIJ P bass of this sort of age in white, and then sell something else Can't go wrong with a Japan Fender IMHO GLWTS
  7. Yes, they were made in China - but not where the affinity series are made. They were from the same factory as the Classic vibe series and the Matt Freeman signatures. Great quality, really solid, lovely finish
  8. I'm a fair way off, in South Wales. Bit of a trek along the M4 (or train journey) But if you're visiting the area to see some family / mates, or just up for a trip to the seaside or mountains - you are very welcome to come and try my NS Design EUB. I play a few gigs where I double up on bass guitar and upright. EUB can be a godsend for some gigs. As an alternative to not playing upright at all - for me it's a no-brainer.... Get yourself an EUB. Now, getting the right one for you... That's the trick. Good luck with your search. My NS Design packs down so that it's not too much bigger than a bass guitar. It's not terribly heavy either.
  9. I had mentioned Squiers earlier - as Stub Mandrel says, there are some crackers out there, and for not much money second-hand TheGreek also mentions Sires - another example of a great second-hand buy. For me, though I've heard great things about Harley Benton's - I think the weight would be an issue Don't forget about the "Vintage" brand either. I played a fairly decent, cheap Jazz Vintage a while back - though again, it was a tad heavy You may not be intending to play any gigs at the moment - but that may change fairly quickly, if you gel well, and someone starts wanting the buzz of playing a few live events....
  10. Hi Dennis, I had a really long break from bass (25 years!) But so glad to be back again. Perhaps your case is a lesson to us all - to keep just one bass, just in case you get tempted back into playing again However, on the plus side, you can start your journey again, and with a clean slate First obvious question is that of budget, then the question of what it's all for? i.e. - what are you going to end up doing? gigs? recording? etc Because that will dictate the rig you will need. There's plenty of choice in the marketplace here on BC, both for basses and amps / rigs. And of course, plenty of people who are willing to share their thoughts, opinions & experiences of any equipment. Harley Benton basses seem to get good reviews as an excellent starter or backup instrument, or even a good gigging bass for those who don't want to take expensive basses to "dodgy" venues Keep an eye on the marketplace for a 2nd hand HB - that may save you even more dosh. Perhaps even consider a 2nd hand Squier from this forum? EDIT: There's always plenty of second-hand bargains to be had in the marketplace let us know what you opt for, and good luck with your search Oh.... and welcome back to Bass
  11. That's what I thought, thanks stewblack. Actually, I did think of advertising it for £500 - then reducing to my asking price of £425 (which IMO, is a steal anyway) That may have worked as a better tactic lol I can't believe someone hasn't snapped this up. It's too good to reduce any further - especially with a case thrown in I might just do my upcoming gig with this (on Saturday) and see if I can convince myself to hang on to it lol
  12. Happy birthday indeed. I was playing an open mic sometime back, in the 147 club in Cardiff Our singer guitarist was chatting to this guy, who had been sat watching us "Well played guys" he said..... Turns out it was the man himself I must admit, I wouldn't have recognised him, as I hadn't met him before, or seen a recent photo of him. But he struck me as a really decent sort of bloke, great player too
  13. It seems to vary in each band that I've been in. Some bands take it in turns to share driving (and fuel, the planet etc). And some band members don't drive - so they pay a consideration to the driver..... Usually half the petrol, but of course, you also have to consider whether the driver is picking you up, taxi'ing you home, helping you unload gear etc So around half the petrol costs, but a pint or two for the taxi'ing and help etc.... I would do what you can to keep the driver(s) happy. I was recently in a band, where the drummer didn't drive, wouldn't help out with costs (always pleading poverty) and never bought anyone a drink.... but was quite happy to accept a drink!!! This ended in him also expecting me to give him a lift elsewhere, and to one gig where he was playing with another band! So I'm more cautious these days....
  14. These are fab short scale basses, and they don't come up for sale very often. I know, cos I was looking for one for ages. GLWTS
  15. Now Reduced to £400 - with a case.
  16. I didn't think you were looking for any more basses Jim. Thought you were trying to reduce your collection, like me? Bump for a lovely player of a Jazz
  17. I wouldn't want a scorched finish myself - but each to their own, of course. As I mentioned, I did think about stripping it back and doing a refin - but don't have the appetite for that now. I'm too lazy tbh But this could be a nice refin project for someone.... or just leave it be, as it's a rather nice colour
  18. For sale is my stunning red / orange burst Yamaha TRB 5 string bass. It's not one of the Japan built models, (Korea, I think?) It really is a lovely player, great quality and has a superb Glockenklang 3 band pre-amp fitted. The price reflects the lovely condition & upgraded Pre-amp, and is actually slightly less than I paid for it, but needs must...... The pre-amp sounds absolutely immense (check them out online!) and would set you back £130 & P+P, plus fitting. It was pro fitted by Dave Dearnaley, for the previous owner (who is also a BC member) I need to downsize my collection, I'm not playing 5 string much these days, so reluctantly this has to go. It sounds absolutely superb (if a little modern for my tastes) and has a great range of tones and sounds. It's X-long scale (35") and the B string is wonderfully fat sounding. It's in great condition, though there are a few minor surface marks here & there - no chips, cracks or splits in the surface though. It weighs 4.5 Kg - so certainly no boat anchor. No trades please, unless you have a 5 string Wingbass. I'd rather not post (and I'd much prefer you tried it and were happy) I'm prepared to meet somewhere though, and have a battery amp and amp-headphones so you can hear the bass. I can let you have a nice, well-padded gigbag to take it away in.
  19. @tom1946 -wow, that's a lovely PJ Lyte. Really like the colour, together with a lighter weight bass BTW. Are there any issues anywhere on the finish of your bass? Can't see any on the front, and just wondered if there were any cracks on the back or edges? PS. Do you know what year it is?
  20. I've not seen one of these in a 5 string version. I played a 4 string in a shop, a little while back, and was quite impressed...... Just wondering @TAzMilitello - what's the B string like? I know some 5 strings seem to suffer with a bit of a "wooly" B string Does this bass combat that, with a higher tension B string? Hmmm, interested -as my 5er is starting to feel a bit heavy for my ageing shoulders....
  21. Wow! Why has this not sold? Matsumoko, Japan 80's top quality bass..... for silly money If I needed a P bass, I'd have this in a flash. I used to own a Thunder Jet, back when they came out new Chap who bought it from me still has that very bass, and it's his favourite he's ever owned..... (and he's owned and sold quite a few since) Me? I already have too many and need to shift a couple...... Or, like I say, I'd have this in a flash Have a bump for a superb bass, that's worth easily twice what Shambo is asking for it, in terms of quality, construction and bang for your buck GLWTS mate EDIT: And that case just might have well have the words "Serious MOJO" written on it, in huge letters
  22. Wow @Meddle - that's some serious finish issues. Now my Jazz doesn't look so bad....
  23. Cheers for that link casapete. The more I look at this bass, the more I feel it's a shame about the cracking / crazing.... It's honesty such a nice player, and lightweight too. Very light for a jazz.
