  1. This is why I'd hate to send a bass via couriers I know this is a pedal - which isn't as valuable as a bass or guitar, but still annoying. And in any case - if it's got the recipients address on it.... surely someone should pass it on to someone in a position to deliver it? Hope this all works out OK mate
  2. Just adding a friendly bump for CalDeep - he's a pleasure to deal with GLWTS mate It's a cracking looking bass!
  3. Just wanted to say, I've got one of these, and it's an amazing little amp More powerful than you'd expect for such a tiny little thing. Great tonal control options & some nice effects I've used mine at pub jams, with several acoustic guitarists (some with their own battery powered amps) and this little amp has more than coped I've even played said pub jams with a drummer (albeit a quiet drummer, with reduced kit). Also great for keeping under the coffee table or alongside the sofa, without being cause of domestic "problems" EDIT: Built in tuner and drum machine too! great for practice GLWTS
  4. I keep coming back to this thread, to click on the link and look at the UB 804... It's all your fault Mr Bassman! I don't need one of these - I'm perfectly happy with my NS I don't need one of these, I don't need one of these, I don......
  5. Good times indeed. When I think back to some of the awful, cheap basses and amps that were around, and affordable back when I was first playing.... eugh! makes me shudder - especially that Kay Rick copy I had Re the difference between basses - I've had some absolutely wonderful (for the money) Squiers - but I guess I've kept my more expensive Fenders, because they just have the edge when it comes to the sound I want - but also because they have been just that little bit more comfortable to play. Some of them perhaps being two or three times the price, and maybe not 2 or 3 times as comfortable, granted Re the amp - yes TE gear was superbly built, great sounding gear back in the day, and still sounds great now. But for me, I've spent my dosh on getting as light weight amp heads and cabs as I can. As you age, it becomes ever more important. Especially as I still don't have a roadie! I just can't see myself lugging the sort of gear I used to own in the 80's around again, especially for those gigs where you're parked half a mile away (we all get one or two of those once in a while)
  6. Looks a great bass - shame you had to send it back! Lightweight basses are becoming increasingly important to me... and this one looked like it might be right up my street I've not seen one, let alone played one. I must admit, if it was mine, I would have wanted to get it fixed and not part with it...
  7. And don't forget to let me know when you're playing more local gigs too It is indeed a great song, and as has been said - "A belter of a bass tone" Nice one Lewis!
  8. Hello there Sté - and welcome back to BassChat Hope you stay permanently this time
  9. I too had a copy of that book. I learned to play 12 bar blues, playing along with the flexi-disc which came with the book But my first tune I actually learned was the end / catchy bit of "The Chain" by Fleetwood Mac and the first one I could actually play along to a record of, was "Peaches" by the Stranglers.... Someone had taught me the bass line, I played it seemingly forever, until I could get it to flow nicely (ish) and then I discovered I had been taught it in the wrong key! lol
  10. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this unusual instrument Mr Bassman. It's always good to hear the thoughts of other players, on new gear, or instruments which may be of interest.... Only things is.... you may have transferred some of that GAS to the rest of us! I've grown to really like my NS Design upright, and found I can get that more upright sounding than fretless sounding the more I play it, and the more I experiment with amps / EQ pedals etc. I also place a small piece of foam under the strings, right next to the bridge, and find this helps to control the sustain (or perhaps I am convincing myself that it helps?). Have you tried that on this new EUB yet? Sorry if I'm suggesting the obvious.... Also, just wondering what strings you tried on it, and in what way were the factory-fitted strings superior? Hope you're well good sir?
  11. You will never cure the GAS - you will simply re-direct it Think of all the different P basses out there you can own.... I mean, have you got a maple board, and rosewood, is Pau Ferro an improvement on Rosewood? Have you got one in Oly White, and one in Sunburst? Hmm, could you do with one in black, and one in natural finish? How about Fiesta Red? GAS Cured? ha ha ha
  12. My first ever bass - a Kay Rick copy. Really, really awful terrible bass - though I didn't really know it at the time, until I played other basses and realised that it wasn't just that I couldn't play All that said, it didn't put me off. I did once own an early 70's Precision that I didn't "hate" as such, but playing mates basses, I realised how heavy the P was, and that I didn't like its' overly chunky, wide, deep neck Every now & then, I see one of those awful Kay Ricks on eBay, and it's usually going for a stupid amount of money, but let me tell you now if you're thinking of buying one .... they are around 3 quids worth of firewood, and probably dangerous to burn anyway!
  13. After more than 4 years of messing around and uncertainty - it's now definite that my job is going. I've got 18 months tops :(
But at least I've got my bass playing to enjoy - thank heavens I took up the bass again. It's my therapy :)

Damn. Sorry to hear that. Are there likely to be other opportunities, are your skills transferrable? Or are you young enough to contemplate a career change? Good luck with whatever you do.

My area of work is incredibly specialist. Another role (if one came up) would likely mean a house-move, and to an area I wouldn't want to live, for family reasons....
I'm actually thinking about a completely different direction in any case. The Voluntary package they're offering is quite frankly, a joke and even an insult. So I am sitting tight, until they improve it, or make me compulsorily redundant. I have 31 years service, and they're offering me the same as someone who has been in post for 2 years.
So that's what it means to be a "valued member of staff" ;)
EDIT: A few years back, I got a long service award, and they told me they valued me - so that's how I know I'm "valued" lol

Thanks for all your kind wishes too, fellow low-enders :)

  14. Aw, sorry to hear you're retiring from gigging But as bigsmoke says above - don't hang that bass up for good. Keep one beside the sofa, for an occasional noodle You know what, I stopped playing in my 20's, and didn't play again for nearly 25 years! And I'm so glad I started playing again - I couldn't live without bass now, I love it more than ever But whatever you decide.... all the best
  15. Thanks for that info LeftyP. Re the tapewounds - what's the tension like? Are they lower tension than many flats? Similar tension to rounds?
  16. FlatEric, that's an amazing looking bass, I must say Beautiful colour & wood grain. Nice design. I agree with alembic1989 re the brass nut & hardware too Just wondering though, why all the switches? What do they all do? Must admit, they do seem to "add" to the look of it though
  17. Wow! Bargain price for a quality Japan made bass from that era. Someone should snap this up GLWTS
  18. I agree, this is a really lovely looking bass. Nice colour too, and re the chrome - it does look good on this bass I especially like the Italia badge too. I don't know why - perhaps because it just has that retro look? Re the pickups - does it sound like a Hoffner Violin bass? Just wondering.... Looks a really nice instrument for when you want to go as lightweight as possible (increasingly important for many of us) EDIT: I'm also surprised that your Chowney was as heavy as that - they always look as though they should be light, to me
  19. Really GASsing for a 5 string Wingbass, or similar very small / short scale bass

Yes, I saw the one for sale @Grantd - I had to sell a bass before buying another.... which is the usual story, I guess for many of us
One of the basses I was selling sold..... just after the Wingbass had gone :(
Ah well - I need to sell at least one more now anyway....

  20. As it's made / crafted in Indonesia, I'm pretty sure it's the Vintage Modified (VM) series. I don't think they made an Affinity series in Indonesia, I'm sure that was only in China I could be wrong though - so am happy for someone to correct me there..... Anyhow, every Squier VM I've ever picked up (and I owned one) have been really good instruments for the money They're a step up from the Affinity series from the same time, and represent excellent value. This one is doubly so, at that price I'm surprised it's still here, I must say

    Ibanez mikro

So an ad popped up.... and you couldn't resist, eh? - You aren't the first! lol Let us know what you think. I did briefly try one, some time back - not plugged into an amp, mind you Can't recall what scale length these are, but they look pretty small I would have bought one for when I'm travelling very light, joining in at acoustic pub jams etc Or simply as a back-up bass, but I got myself a Tanglewood Elfin sometime back These Mikro's do look nice mind you, and anything Ibanez is generally pretty good quality, to excellent in my experience
  22. I too have a Czech Ease - though mine doesn't have a carved front. They are lovely basses - so lightweight and portable for an acoustic DB. Lovely player and sound too. I have to say though, this one looks absolutely stunning! GLWTS PS. Whereabouts are you based Lodekka? Might help your sale to let people know
  23. Good morning, Bonjour, Bore Da from Wales Welcome to BassChat LeEb5. I hope you find more than effects here There's plenty to chat about.
  24. I have just bought 4 sets I will sell them on to anyone interested, for a small mark-up of a mere £286.75p
