Definitely replace the nut. That one Teebs posted a link to looks great. Re the dead spots - check the neck relief and bridge adjustments. You may need to tweak the truss rod and the bridge saddles to stop the dead spots But change those strings, and give the bass a good set-up Best of luck with it. Let us know how you get on

For sale. NS Design WAV Electric Upright, in rather fetching Dark Red. Complete with gigbag and stand. In very good gigged condition (a few scratches here & there, eg. on top of the peg box) I only acquired this recently, and instantly fell for it! So much so, that I went out and got myself an upgrade, in the form of one of the CR models.... So I'm selling this one, which made me an NS convert For those who want to play upright, or double up on both BG and EUB, but want a portable solution. This is the most compact and portable 3/4 upright I found. I believe the WAV series was NS "budget" version of their EUB's, and were rather good, and inexpensive compared to their other EUB's - and they have been discontinued for some time. The additional pickup on the side is a J-Tone addition I have been experimenting with and will be removed before sale **Additionally, the strings have been changed since the photos and it now sports a brand new set of NS Design Medium tension strings! ** For those bass guitar players who are tempted by the world of upright - this is a better instrument than the Stagg (I know, as I previously owned one - they're a good entry level EUB too) I have included a photo of the bass in its' gigbag, alongside my P bass - so you can see just how compact this EUB is. I got a good tone from this bass, and you will see a piece of foam in the pics - which I think helped "deaden" sustain, and help me get more of an upright tone. This bass is passive, and controls are Volume and Tone, plus it has a switch for Arco & Pizz playing. There are no batteries to worry about either. No trades please - I need to thin the herd. Collection only, From near Cardiff - I don't like posting basses, and I would always prefer you give it a whirl. However, I could meet somewhere within reasonable distance, and have recently acquired some amplified headphones, which work quite well for testing instruments. NB: Sorry for the poor quality of the photos - I'll get some better shots when I get chance during daylight (work allowing) The red colour of this instrument is really rather nice, and the pics don't do it justice.

Hello Ron, Welcome to BC. Lovely looking basses you have there I started playing many years back (not 50 years though) Sadly for me, I stopped playing for around 25 years! However, I'm now an "old / new" bassist, and loving it more than ever Shwmae from South Wales

Ah, but perhaps some of us aren't becoming "wimps".... we're just becoming "old"? I recently played 2 long sets, using a bass which is only a tad heavier than my standard gigging bass (for longer gigs) and it did induce some aching in my shoulder and neck.... Yes, I've done my time lugging heavy heavy gear around. Back in the day, I had a heavy P bass, a very heavy valve head, a 4x12 and a (Traynor) 2x15 that was the size and weight of a fridge (one full of beer, at that! lol) So anything that can help save my back / shoulder / knees / wrists /slightly arthritic fingers.... etc etc is a very welcome thing But you do have a point. Back in said "day" I just had to play what I had, and what I could afford (no one in their right mind would have given me a credit card back then) And music shops had far less choice (no such thing as on-line shopping) so we bought what was in our budget, from a very limited range - more so if you could only afford your chosen bass 2nd hand. Nowadays, we have so much more choice, we have credit card companies and banks willing to give us almost limitless credit - so we have become more fussy.... or is it "discerning"? All this talk of different nut width / neck profile / fretboard radii..... Personally I blame BassChat! ..... now, I've got 10 minutes - I'm off to the marketplace

How do they compare, weight-wise, and are the necks chunky on the Ray34's Lozz? I had a Ray some years back - but it weighed a tonne! Lovely bass, great sound, but it was heavy, and the neck was a bit too chunky for me I tried a Sub, sometime back and quite liked the neck dimensions.....

I've voted for 2.5". Though, depending on the strap material, I also wouldn't mind 2" My favoured straps are very very soft leather and around 2.5" wide But I also have a 2" wide Fender soft leather strap, and that's lovely too - although I tend to have that on a lighter weight bass I agree with Paul S above.... I don't mind wider, if the strap is soft I've tried harder leather straps, and wider seems less comfortable when it's 3" +

Definitely leave your US Jazz alone - at least until you have installed a pre-amp into something else first (don't want to go adding battery chamber or hacking an expensive bass around, as it's your first attempt) There's a lot of love for Sire basses, as others have said - particularly second-hand A Squier Classic Vibe (second-hand) might also be a good bass to add a pre-amp to. I've got a Yamaha 5 string, with a Glockenclang pre-amp, and that sounds amazing (and I'm not particularly a fan of active basses) Good luck with your conversion, and let us know how you get on

Wow! That really is a great price for a Limelight! Fabulous basses, they really are. I like the colour of this one too If I needed another P bass, I'd definitely be wanting this one The bridge is a simple enough fix (I had a problem with 2 of the height adjustment screws on mine - I emailed Mark and he sent me a few replacements) GLWTS - but at that price, I'm sure it won't be around long

How to choose the right neck profile for me? [ie. depth/shape/radius]
Marc S replied to Greg.Bassman's topic in Bass Guitars
For me, it's not just the profile / shape of the neck - it's the combination of profile with width of neck (and not just at the nut) I tend to prefer C profile, but some C profile necks can have an edge at the fretboard which feels almost "sharp" - so I prefer a C profile with well rounded edges However, as project_c mentions above, I also find some wider necks comfortable (I recently played a Squier JV P and the neck was wider than my usual, but it felt incredibly comfortable I've also played some deeper profiled necks and found them quite comfortable too. However, I did discover that I don't like necks that are both wide and deep. I recently acquired a Fender MIJ Jazz, and I already had a fretless version. I find both these necks seem to be C or modern C profile (the fretless is from the late 80's, the fretted from the early 90's, I think) They're a tad shallower than other Jazzes I've played or owned, but I find them incredibly comfortable. I'm not sure why this is, but I've not played a MIJ neck I didn't instantly like, whatever width and profile it is..... -
Yes, that Tokai is really rather lovely, and would be harder to replace in future That P bass is also very very nice, and a real looker in Fiesta Red - but as nice as it is, if you can sell that and hang on to that Tokai, you can replace the P bass at some later date Good luck with the sale of the P, and sorry to hear about your large car repair bill ...mind you, these days all car repair bills seem to have grown

Does a bass stand which really packs down into a gig bag but works exist?
Marc S replied to Owen's topic in Bass Guitars
If you have a speaker cab covered in felt, and tall enough - try one of these https://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Markbass-Basskeeper-Bass-Guitar-Strap/BGU?origin=product-ads&campaign=PLA+Shop+-+GENERIC&adgroup=GENERIC&medium=vertical_search&network=google&merchant_id=1279443&product_id=14862d1&product_country=GB&product_partition_id=446391500132&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI3qDa3YGs3gIVEud3Ch3XcQmiEAQYASABEgJKvfD_BwE Uses Velcro to stick to a felt covered cab, and velcro to secure the neck of the bass. Packs down really really small, and it's nice & secure. If your speaker cab is covered in tolex - perhaps try sticking a couple of velcro patches to the cab? EDIT: Just saw the second pic in the ad, and it reminded me, it is possible to secure to the handle on some cabs too -
OK, how much for the Great Dane then Fleabag?

Thanks for posting that. I've just ordered one

Yes, it's a really nice town Lots of nice places to eat & drink - esp that riverside pub, by the old gatehouse on the bridge.... lovely spot The music shop is up the top of the road from there. There is a pub near it (Weatherspoon) but can't recall the name of the pub BTW. I can't recall which pub Dr Feelgood used to drink in, when they were recording at Rockfield? Must got there one day Any details on the date of that charity gig? I wouldn't mind popping along
