  1. Wow! That's an absolute bargain for someone
  2. I read about someone having a problem with the pickup - perhaps it was yourself? Shame that happened to you, and glad you got it sorted I hope it's not a common fault Was it easy to remove the old bridge and access the wiring? Was it easy to fit a standard bridge, or did it need a lot of modification? I think I need to pop along to the bass centre and give one a whirl..... Thanks for your reply, and sorry for all the additional questions! lol It's just that I'm thinking of selling my Czech Ease to get one of these, and I want to get that right (as I probably won't see another Czech Ease)
  3. Wow! Great job Mr Discreet
  4. Oh my, oh my..... I need a lie down! Stunning!!
  5. Hi, I'm actually thinking the same thing. They do look great, and a serious alternative to carting a full body sized acoustic DB about Anyone else got any more thoughts on them please? Did you go for one Marvin Spangles?
  6. Me too, and I wondered the same thing. There was a thread about this very topic somewhere on here I know several musicians who are left handed, yet play right handed instruments (incl a guitarist I've known for years, but didn't see him hold a pen until years after A couple of them have said they think the tricky shapes, movements etc are probably better suited to your more dominant hand. I'm not 100% convinced on this, but when I began, I felt a right handed bass to be more comfortable (or was it that there was only one Left handed bass in the shops - and it was expensive?) These days, I know four violin players. Three of them are brilliant (one especially, and she helped teach the other two good ones) the fourth player is.... OK Oddly enough, the 3 good players are all left handed. Each of them has said they've never even seen a left handed violin, and they all know left handed violin players, who play right handed violins
  7. Can't believe this awesome bass is still here GLWTS type bump Kevsy
  8. Welcome indeed Jeff, and itsmedunc has warned you..... lol mind you, I think I was pretty much ruined, even before joining BassChat
  9. Good to hear such heart-warming news FuNkShUi Hope you're OK mate? Haven't seen you in a while.... Well done BC'ers - obviously, there are still people out there who care EDIT: "You've all done very well" said young Mr Grace
  10. Not played one of those. And boy, that does look good, in Fiesta Red I played one of the earlier models of fretless Jazz type basses. I was impressed with that for the money So if they've been making improvements, I want to try one
  11. Welcome to BC. But more importantly, welcome back to the wonderful world of bass playing
  12. This bass is looking absolutely amazing! Great job Bridgehouse I'll be interested to see what the final weight is, and even more interested to hear it being played (unplugged too - wondering how loud it will be)
  13. Way back when I first played (long before online ordering etc!) the only bass strings I ever saw regularly in music shops, were Rotosound Sometimes a shop would have 2 different gauges, or 2 different varieties of Rotosound bass string. Oddly enough, I don't think I ever noticed a lack of consistency back then Perhaps I wasn't so critical back then? Perhaps my ears were not trained enough to notice dead spots, despite being younger? Or was it that I used to get my bass set up regularly, rather than doing it myself? But overall, I think there are more brands / makes of string available now, and more readily available - which is a good thing. Also, I can now afford to try a few different string types now & again It's a shame that Rotosound don't seem to be as good as my memory tells me they once were, as every bassist I knew seemed to use them Mind you, back in the day, I used to break strings more often - perhaps they weren't so good back then? Or was it just my playing?
  14. I've had similar issues in the past, and it has always been down to a set-up issue - and changing brand of strings has helped too Like Meddle, I found a couple of times that Rotosound (swing) strings sounded quite dead. Although more often than not, it seemed to be the G, rather than the E
  15. Looks like you got a good buy there umcoo. I have something of a liking for those old, MIJ 70's / early 80's basses Just wondering whether the pots are actually duff - or whether it's just a bodge job with the wiring of those switches I think a complete new wiring loom would be a good idea - but definitely keep the original pickup - see if it's working, and see how it sounds A while back, I put a new neck on an old MIJ 70's / 80's bass (i couldn't tell what brand it was - someone had removed the logo on the old, broken neck) Anyhow, the wiring needed a tweak, the pots needed cleaning - but the pickup sounded superb.... wish I'd kept it now Good luck with this restoration project
  16. I most definitely do not "need" another bass...... But this looks so awesome - I keep coming back to look at it! Please, someone buy it and help me with my addiction! lol
  17. It's not an "error" as such fleabag - but looking at too many basses for sale is unhealthy for your wallet
  18. Paddy just saw this and thought of your thread..... I'm still not clear as to whether these are still being made - but there are still quite a few around This one on eBay is brand new, and the same price as the one in your link!! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Squier-Classic-Vibe-Precision-Bass-70s-MN-Black/332711356237?epid=2255395978&hash=item4d7724674d:g:MRcAAOSw-a1bB~jC
  19. Wow - that is rare! Are you sure you should be selling this one Paul? As you say, you may never see another.... Have a free bump, in any case PS. How much for that rug? lol
  20. I too blame BC for many many things! Especially moments of similar madness / cashflow in the "wrong" direction But hey, Marylin is absolutely lovely, and I'm sure will bring you many hours of happiness As Happy Jack says above - "what's age got to do with it?" And he's absolutely bang on correct, of course. (EDIT: Yes Mrs Happy Jack - it does happen! lol) In fact, the younger me could not possibly have afforded half of the gear I now own Happy NBD to you Mr Staggering on - enjoy
  21. Hope you can get a neck to fit that Sire. I've not played one, but I hear those Sires are good basses And I agree with other replies - I wouldn't go for that trade Perhaps someone on here has a more suitable trade? Might be worth putting your Sire in the for sale / trade section, saying you'd be open for a trade, for a fretted bass - give it a try Or else, you could try offering the neck in trade for a fretted one? Whatever you opt for - best of luck with it
  22. That really looks the biz
  23. "Too easy"? - what are we bassists like? Manufacturers make things a bit easier for us, and we have to go and make our own lives difficult again! lol I prefer a Jazz profile neck myself - but then I also like some Precision necks. I don't like ones that are wide, as well as being very chunky / deep Oddly enough though Lozz, I know what you mean. I had a really nice AVRI 70's Jazz (with the bullet trussrod adjustment at the headstock) And it looked and sounded gorgeous - but the neck was thinner than any other Jazz I'd owned or played at that time, and for some reason, I didn't quite like it as much as I thought I would.... In the end, I got offered slightly more than I'd paid for it - so I sold it.
