  1. Yes indeed. Though the Roadworn series are superb basses IMO and the relicing does look great But as you say, each Limelight has slightly different relciing. You can specify the amount of relicing when you order one, but even 2 people specifying the same "level" of relicing will get slight differences The relicing on my Limelight is absolutely superb, I must say
  2. That does look rather lovely, I must say. Best colour for one of these too IMO... Not played a bad MIJ / CIJ Fender yet GLWTS - because it will stop me coming back to look at it
  3. Both pickups are Limelight's own. I'd heard their pickups before, and was well pleased with what I'd heard I believe they are hand-wound. The certainly sound the biz anyway Yes, depending on what you want, they are around £850 - just under £1K I believe. Mark will give you a quote on what you're after And yes, though they aren't '63 RI's - they are less than one, and I think you'd be hard pressed to beat them IMHO As Mr discreet says, you could wait for one to come up second-hand on the marketplace here, if you wanted to save a bit of cash.... You could always sell it on again, if it doesn't quite meet all your needs (you'd likely get your money back, as they seem to sell for a consistent sort of price) I really should have bought the one FuNkShUi was selling some time back, as I liked it so much I waited for another Fiesta Red P to come up, and a couple did (one very recently) but I always seemed to miss them, as they went quickly... That said, I'm glad I got mine P/J'ed as I'm really sold on that pickup arrangement (and it's something I wouldn't dare do to a '63 AVRI)
  4. My thoughts are the same as Mr fleabag... It sounds nothing like a DB at all, and not even anything like any EUB I've heard (most EUB manufacturers are trying to get a DB-like sound) I'm not sure what amplification and or effects are being used in this clip - or whether there are any effects or gain? It would be useful to know such things - or do these basses sound like that with no effects, drive or gain? Don't think I'll ever be shopping for one.
  5. Yes, it's a good feeling when a bass feels "just right" and so comfortable to play As you have other basses, I would strongly advise you keep dabbling with one or two of them from time to time... I'm often amazed at how different basses can be - even apparently similar models. I just think it's good to play instruments of differing weight, balance, and different neck widths & depths now and then. Back when I first started, and could only afford one bass - if I picked up another bass I think I struggled more to "adapt" to playing it. i.e. It's good to know how some basses can feel & sound, and just be able to pick almost anything up It's why I own a 5 string. I don't normally play 5'ers - but they always feel so very different to 4 stringers to me - so I like to be able to play one, without feeling "what the hell is this?!" So I just dabble with the 5'er once in a while... just in case I ever get asked to play at an open mic, and don't have my own comfortable 4 string Re changing the electrics - if it aint broke... don't fix it! Particularly if it sounds good anyway That's my advice.... for what it's worth
  6. Ah, I know that feeling all too well karlfer! Trouble is, you'll probably end up regretting selling this one too lol Classic Vibe Squiers are just fantastic quality, for that sort of money .... wish I didn't have to sell my old one - but I've got too many as well
  7. It does sound like a good price, especially if you like it so much It's an odd thing, but you can play two models of the same bass, and they can still often feel and / or sound different I've heard other players say that MIJ / CIJ Fenders and Squiers were more consistent in quality than US models of that era
  8. Welcome to BassChat Patrick. I've visited the Netherlands a few times. Valkenburg and Utrecht in particular. Both really nice places, and quite different from one another Hello from the land of Daffodils (Wales)
  9. Yes, it is a shame if you can't identify or pin down an exact model of your bass.... However, as you say it's a fantastic bass and you intend to keep it. Don't know how much of a bargain it was - but if you feel it's a keeper - then that's all that matters BTW, I have a couple of MIJ Fenders, and have played several others - I haven't played a bad one yet! They have all seemed like superb instruments to me - lovely necks on every one
  10. What a great song it is! Superb bass line too It's songs like this that make me wish I was in a punk band again lol Saw the Ruts recently (last year, supporting the Stranglers) Oddly enough, I missed seeing them back in the day.... Despite the grim reaper, and all the years gone by - they were absolutely brilliant!
  11. Looks a nice finish, considering it's hand painted.... I must say, I quite like the colour - it looks not unlike the surf green that J&D Jazzes are available in Also, I do like the look of those J&D Block & Bound Jazz style necks. It looks curious, to see a Fender style neck, coupled with a Westone body shape....... Curious, and not unattractive in a strange way..... Looks to be a bloomin' bargain at a hundred quid! Anyhow, Alcytes is a top BC'er to deal with - so buy in confidence folks Hmmm, now I'm wishing Alcytes lived closer to me, so I could pop in and give this curious bass a whirl GLWTS matey
  12. Always wanted to try one of these. And seeing this one, and Sibob's recent purchase of a gold fretless BC Jazz has made me even more curious GLWTS - looks a nice bass
  13. Very similar to my PJ, built very recently by Mark Although mine doesn't have matching headstock Looks good on this bass though Limelights are superb instruments IMO GLWTS
  14. Yes indeed. Great job to all the admin team. BC has been the forum I spend most time on Thanks for all your hard work guys
  15. Good point jazzmanb..... As you say, years back, you heard very little about what an artist or band had to say - apart from the odd interview You just got "news" about them from (infrequent) interviews or "quotes" from them from the press.... which is as unreliable a source as it ever was...
  16. Though they were never among my absolute favourite of bands, and he would never have been among my favourite of lead singers, I always had at least a liking for them. All through my punk youth - the Fall were ever present.... they were just there, gigging all the time, where other bands just disappeared As Maude says above - you don't see many characters like MES in today's music scene... if any.... MES's style, lyrics and delivery were certainly unique, and I think the music industry has lost yet another unique character and personality I saw them several times, over many years. Live they could be so hit & miss, and this was almost always down to MES. I recall seeing them at Ashton Court Festival in Bristol quite a few years back, and they were definitely not at their best However, when I saw them play the very same set just a month or two later - they were great! They could be like that though Impressive mass of albums recorded too. RIP Mark
  17. That's an amazing price for one of these! GLWTS
  18. +1 to this. Just as long as you're not planning to sell it - cos that's when you don't get your money back However, if spending the money has made your bass just the way you want it.... then great I mean, you could spend a lot more on an upmarket bass, only to find you don't like it anywhere near as much as you like the one you currently own Let us know how you get on BTW. Best of luck with it
  19. Nice. Don't see so many of these around these days And that's in good condition for its' age
  20. Perhaps we should start a new thread / topic? NFCD - New Floor Covering Day
  21. Not so much a pedal - but V8bass (gary) once brought a Roland midi system along to a Cardiff bass bash.... That made a bass guitar sound very much like a DB. Looking into that system though - it's expensive, and you need a midi pickup on your instrument Sadly, these only seemed to be available in a flat rectangular shaped version, which you could easily install on a guitar or bass guitar, but wouldn't fit the arched shape of a DB string / fingerboard I tried a few effects pedals, and nothing really worked for me. In the end, I found that EQ'ing (taking out virtually all of the top end, and much of the middle) helped probably more than any of the effects I tried, it worked slightly better, when I used a Pre-amp pedal (MXR) and I did wonder about putting some foam just under the strings, as some folk do to get more of a thumpy sound on a P bass..... This may help reduce sustain, as TheRev mentions - so might be worth a try? I sometimes play slap style DB, and my KK baby bass has a pretty good DB sound with its' built in pickup system - but for playing slap stlye, I use an added pickup - with shadow pre-amp. This came with 2 x piezo type "pads" but I swapped one of these for a cheap "clicky" pickup which I bought on eBay. It works surprisingly well (the shadow is pretty good in its' own right anyway) The EUB with the closest sound to an acoustic DB that I found, was the Eminence - some careful EQ'ing and it sounded amazing! Beautifully made instrument too Let us know how you get on, and whether you come across a pedal that you think gets you closer to the sound you want - best of luck
  22. That looks great Sibob. I've not tried a Bass Collection instrument, but always thought they look pretty good. At one time, I was fancying one of their Norman Watt-Roy basses, as a backup. They seem to be good value for the amount of money, and a good choice / selection of basses When you said you'd got a cheap fretless (in your status update) I thought maybe you'd opted for one of the second-hand Squier VM's on here - which IMO, are brilliant, for very little money I must admit though, your new fretless looks stunning, in that lovely metallic gold It would be interesting to hear your thoughts on this bass, once you've had a while to play it... Also, it would be good to know if anyone has compared one of these with a Squier VM Happy NBD, and happy Mwah'ing Everyone should have a fretless to dabble with once in a while
  23. Looks a really nice guitar Whereabouts are you based?
