1.
I've tried short scale Marc and the notes aren't where I put my fingers .......
I have the same problem Tom - and I'm swapping between DB 34" scale, 23" scale, and I have a 30" short scale! I do struggle when I swap to the 30" - but I almost don't notice the difference when playing the 32" medium scale I'm sure it's all just a question of practice, and persistence. If you played only 30" scale - you'd get used to it eventually Papalampraina above, suggests taking your bass to a good luthier to make the body hollow, or at least chambered Indeed Maruszyk (sorry, I never can spell it correctly) also make some basses as chambered body versions Although I've not played one of these, I've seen people discussing their weight, and they do seem very lightweight It would be a shame to carve up this wonderful bass, and that other lovely P bass you're selling Perhaps you could email Adrian, to get a lightweight bass custom made for you? EDIT: I don't know the exact weight of that 32" Japan Squier P of mine, but as the body is proportionally smaller than a standard P bass, it really is very light in comparison to my other basses.
2.
The drummer's stage wear is memorable...
Yes, but it's not a good memory, is it? lol Wonder if the bass player really used a bow, as per this TOTP clip? Don't know who the bassist is, or where he is now Yes, it's disco silliness - but it made me smile....
3. Lovely looking bass Tom. You don't see many in this colour. Lovely grain too Sorry to hear of your back woes mate. But before you think of giving up altogether, have you considered playing smaller, more lightweight basses? Perhaps a nice short scale might even be a good idea? Have you tried a Kala UkeBass? Worth considering these things anyway I'd hate to give up playing now! I know how backs & shoulders start to ache and click when you reach a certain age...... but you might miss your music more than you'd think
4.
I'll second what Marc says, these are exceptional basses, and it's in the right colour too. GLWTS mate.
Yes indeed. Cheers Tom Bump - c'mon BC'ers.... you heard what tom said
5.
I'd like to say that all of my basses are perfect in their own way in a given situation. This means that I can have several.....
I'm going to second this sentiment
6. I'm amazed no one has gone for this offer Such a bargain. Hope it sells soon
7. Always liked the look of Scott's basses. Although this colour isn't one of my faves It really seems to suit the look of this bass. Nice, very nice I'm in the same boat re having too much "stuff" - otherwise, I'd be tempted to give this bass a whirl GLWTS type bump
8.
Offers should be made via PM only. They're excellent, regardless of cost. The fact that they're affordable could actually work against them. The marketing concept that something can only be good if it's expensive stalks the land like a... stalking thing. I think Entwistle would sell a lot more pickups if they were four times the price!
I think you've hot the nail on the head here. Maybe a lot of players think they can't possibly sound as good as "brand" X or "Brand Y" - because x & y are 3 times the price..... Mind you, I don't want Mr Entwistle to hike the price of his pickups - because those of us in the know are quite happy with the prices as they are To anyone doubting the quality of Entwistles..... go out & buy a set now! You may be pleasantly surprised.... heck if enough people bought them, the price might come down even more The more I look at this bass Mr Discreet - the more I like it. But if it were mine, I'd have to put those stick-on blocks on the fretboard EDIT: I meant to add; nice playing in that clip too
9. Nice job discreet! Really nice job I can't believe you don't like blocks & binding on a Jazz neck But I have to say, I like the look of the neck on this more than I thought I would Entwistle pickups are indeed great. For the money, in fact.... they're brilliant Nice build PS. When are you selling it? Tomorrow? Day after? lol
10. Welcome back you are not allowed to leave again
11. Back up for sale - I withdrew this bass, as it's a real wrench putting it up for sale... however, It's not getting used.... Note this is NOT a Squier Affinity. It's from the superb (and discontinued) Classic Vibe range. It has been converted into a P/J professionally by Dave Dearnaley (great Cardiff luthier) and it's a superb job - you'd swear it was a factory job. It's also in near mint condition..... No fret wear I can see Those in the know fully realise how good the Classic Vibe range are. There are plenty of comparisons on youtube between CV's and Fenders. I had a US P bass at the same time as this, and there really wasn't much in it - I kid you not. Once this was P/J'ed, it was the keeper, not the US. I'm only selling this now, as I've ordered a Limelight... otherwise, I'd be keeping it... This bass has Upgraded pickups - Entwistle JBXN and PBXN models - really powerful with extended size magnets. plays, looks & sounds superb. I withdrew this a while back, and it's a real wrench to sell it - but I have too many Based in Cardiff North. No trades - but may trade for a Classic Vibe or MIM Jazz, or possibly a USA Jazz, with cash going your way Actually, I'd really like a Roadworn Jazz again, so willing to add cash for one EDIT: I'd also consider trade for a MIM or US Jazz body.... Collection or meetup preferred, as I hate sending basses in the post. Also, I want you to appreciate just how good this bass is and for us both to be happy with the sale / trade... I'd be willing to drive for the right trade....
12. I have to say, since PMT opened their shop in Cardiff, I always pop in, even if it's just for a chat I really like the shop, and the staff there are great... really friendly and helpful, and I don't find them at all "pushy" So Number 6 - to help your GAS, you may need to deliberately avoid the shop. The Cardiff branch haven't helped my GAS
13. Looks great. Best colour combination, and in superb condition too GLWTS PS. It might help the sale, if you state where you are based - so interested parties could come & have a play.....
14. ..... but then again, Tort does look great on black too Oh, I'm no help, I know
15. I would usually say Tort But a black P bass, with maple board.... Perhaps Black.... a la JJ Burnel
16. A bit more money than the MIM Classic 50's Precision is the Roadworn 50's Precision Yes, it's roadworn, which may not be to everyone's taste - but they're absolutely amazing. If you can get one second-hand, again, you'd save a bit more dosh I've got one, and it's my go-to bass. Really well put together, plays like a dream, sounds & feels great to play, and nice & lightweight (the lightest P I've ever picked up)
17.
especially if it's a new band and there was no previous guitarist... although for that reason I love the suggestion. The thing is I did not know he was like that until we told him. Had I known this is how he'd take it, oh yes... I'd use that line and stand back with pop corn.
You have popcorn? I want to be in your band.... And I won't take "no" for an answer
18. That really IS cool
19.
I would have rephrased the message you sent, in order to prevent his ego being bruised. After all nobody likes rejection. I would have said that the original guitarist has decided to rejoin the band and tell the auditioner that they were amazing and thank them for their time. Guitarists have fragile egos at the best of times. It's best to treat them gently.
I've met a few people like the OP describes - mainly guitarists, but a few keyboard players too... gjones's idea above is great - might need that in future! (PS. I suppose the only downfall with this suggestion, is the guy still seeing the ad around weeks later lol)
20.
ON HOLD
Thank heaven for that..... it's saving my GAS
21. As Sibob says, it's probably not so much the tuners, it'll be more down to the strings. Not used Newtone myself, so can't comment on their custom strings. Though this does seem a good approach IMO If you did want to upgrade the tuners, then for £50, you probably aren't going to get anything of higher quality than the ones already on your bass. If they're the standard ones you get on a Squier - they're not bad.....not brilliant either, but not bad... You'd be better off saving a bit more cash, and get some 2nd hand tuners - keep an eye on the marketplace here on BC, or place a wanted ad. Cheers
22. I had this issue (admittedly different pickups) with a Bitsa P/J bass Someone else had wired the pickups before I bought the body On careful examination, two of the wires were not in the correct place At the time, although both pickups sounded great, one was much more lively than the other.... Once fixed (by comparing to an internet wiring diagram) the problem was solved As hubrad says though - it could be a phase issue, which is noted on many Jazz basses (I have to say, I've not noticed it on either of the P/J basses I now own) Check that wiring against a diagram in the first instance If that doesn't appear to be the problem - you say you "had two new pickups fitted".... does that mean a shop or luthier have done this for you? If so, I'd chat with them, if they've done something in error, I'd ask them to fix it
23. Hello from South Wales guy. Welcome to Basschat Nice to hear you're still playing. I gave up for over 20 years! I hadn't gigged since the mid 80's - then suddenly..... I started playing bass again Never looked back since have fun good sir
