  1. It seems to me that the BB style Yamaha's get all the love on here, but I do like the BBG's and BBN's as well. I thought it might be nice to start a thread showing of these lovely things, and so I'll start things off by showing my own. Please feel free to add you own pix and your untrammelled adulation for these great basses. 29E848C6-E67A-4963-84EF-CA2E2A7FB40A.heic
  2. I love that!
  3. Francis Hylton is so good!
  4. Aberffraw, eh? I used to go windsurfing at Rhosneigr just up the coast. Wild and wooly.
  5. Crazy cool! And a great recovery from the routing disaster. I hope we can hear sound clips soon!
  6. Wow, that is my theory blown out of the water right enough! Any idea what the naming convention might be, then? I'm surprised how many variants there are of these BBG's and BBN's. And that's a nice looking active version, btw. Normally I'm not mad for black basses. Maybe we should have a "show yer BBG/BBN thread"..
  7. I think the Yamaha naming convention is such that "S" means sunburst (Per my own BBG4SII). I notice your BBG5 has non original Kent Armstrong pickups. How does it sound?
  8. Oh. Could you post a pic of your BBG?
  9. Interesting looking guitar!
  10. BBN is passive, I think. BBG is active.
  11. I had the Harley Benton Jaco style Jazz. It was well built and well finished. I think the top might have been a veneer , because there were no obvious joins. I thought it was a good bass, and certainly did me for a while. The only issue i had with it was that it was heavy. I sold it to someone on here, who wanted it for the neck!
  12. What a fine musician, with a great sound!
  13. I’ve got an Indonesian SUB Ray 4. Nothing wrong with it at all. Second hand for two hundred quid. Bargain.
  14. I sometimes chain my Zoom G3 with my Zoom B3n, if I’m feeling ambient-ish. The G3 supplies the delays, because they are the FX with a mix control on that particular device. The other guitar oriented stuff, like distortions, don’t really cut it. The B3n does the rest: envelope filters, octaves, choruses. i only use them together because it’s easier to toggle individual FX than swapping whole patches on the B3n.
  15. It’s harmolodics, innit.
  16. EBS Session 60. As loud as your family can bear, and very pokey.
  17. I think I remember BJ Cole experimenting with a MIDI output on his pedal steel.
  18. Rosewood board, binding, block inlays, on a white or red Jazz Bass, with a matching headstock.
  19. Wowser, I’m not a P guy, but that is very nice!
  20. And the god of bass spake, and did say that the number of strings shall be four, and they shall not be three, nor shall they be any number greater than four, but four shall be their number.
  21. I was in Kirkmichael, near Ayr, last week. By a gargantuan effort of will I did not contact Keir about this bass. What a relief it’s been withdrawn.
  22. Maple or other light coloured boards on a dark wood bass. No. More than four strings. No. Fan frets. No. Lots of fancy wood. No. More than 34” scale. No. The Sire headstock. NO NO NO NO NO. Stop it now. WTF?
  23. This is looking very good. I can imagine exactly how you feel about the control cavity business, but it looks like it will be concealed ok. Plus one for the saw rasp (Shinto rasp?). It's amazing how finely it can work if you are careful. Good luck and press on!
  24. A penknife and a kitchen grater will suffice for mostly undetectable repairs. On a Fender.
