  1. Musicophilia, Oliver Sacks.
  2. I used one of these to noodle on, while on holiday many years ago. Absolutely amazing sound considering its size! Definitely NOT a toy! GLWTS.
  3. Best buy this year was my Yamaha BBG5S. It plays and sounds great. Absolute bargain as well. I can’t put it down. I had been absolutely phobic about five string basses, but this thing is so easy to play and sounds huge. So, it seems you can teach an old dog new tricks!
  4. Never mind the body, I can't STAND those droopy Sire headstocks. What were they thinking??
  5. Colour me interested. Do they double as regular multi-fx? Y'know, octave, chorus, etc? If so I could probably find a use for one.
  6. This is very disappointing. A friend of mine was running an AT training school in Paris, last I heard of her. I knew several French teachers, and ran workshops with them at Lamoura, in the Jura. This was back in the mid eighties, and we had a lot of interest from a big group of participants. Clearly things have changed since then. I had a quick look online, and can't find the folks I knew who were teaching in France. Soz.
  7. With the Alexander Technique, less is more! Not strenuous, not about fitness, but about paying attention to detail of movement. Among other things.
  8. Great to see Alexander Technique get some kudos on here. I trained as a teacher of AT and practised for a number of years before training to be a psychotherapist. Both kinds of work are closely related, in my view. I taught many classical and jazz musicians in Glasgow and Edinburgh, which was very satisfying work. I also had stints as a dep AT teacher at Wells Cathedral School and St Mary's in Edinburgh. I co-pioneered AT in Japan, with a colleague, back in 1986. I have left it behind me now, but I think the effect on my playing and musicianship, as well as my attitude to music, is incalculable. If anyone is struggling with playing or performance issues, I heartily recommend AT to them! If anyone on here wants to talk more about this I am very happy to engage.
  9. Personally I need 19mm spacing so I can slap comfortably, although Happy Jack tells me I am not a gentleman because I slap.
