As a guitar player, bass player and inveterate fiddler, I like to mix and match. Many of the FX in the G3 are also present in the B3, and in an updated form, the B3n, I believe. The ones I like to mess with are not instrument dependent. In fact, the autowah in the G3 seems to me to sound better than the B3n equivalent, depending on which bass I use. Come to think of it, folk on here who like fuzz or distortion seem to like vintage guitar models, or a Rat or TS9. If it sounds good, it is good.. But of course I have to admit I listen with my eyes as well. Anybody remember Stanley Clarke playing through a Mesa Boogie combo? That just didn't look right to me!

Has an Oz Noy type vibe, to me. Good work.

I have a Zoom G3 which I have on my board after my B3n. I use it for modulated delays and reverbs, but it has para EQ just like its bass equivalent. Works great, doesn’t sound thin.

AKG K240 DF. Sfind them a bit quiet due to high impedance, but they are very good cans for listening to bass through DAW or preamp. -

Ah, I now see the bit about reshaping the body. Good idea. -
Love that, thanks.

Ah, me, communication via text is inherently limiting. We can't hear tone of voice and emphasis (prosody), and thus misunderstanding abounds. My apologies for not being clear, I was firing from the hip in a spirit of helpfulness, plus I totally dig those curved plates on the Sandbergs. Good luck to Honza with his excellent project, and respect to all those who chip in with their expertise. -

This is a nice HB Deluxe Series fretless Jazz Bass. Wilkinson pickups, nice low action, plenty of mwah. The strings are Stadium Elites, I think, but I’m not sure. Nice playing bass, a wee bit on the heavy side, like many HB’S. Very good condition, normal slight play wear to neck and body. Location Cotswolds, and I’m often in Oxford. Will travel to meet, but I’m not keen to post. Twist my arm. Comes with cheapy padded gig bag, which is fairly adequate. Ninety quid and it’s yours. -

Agreed, but on a quick glance, seemed to cause a bit of discussion. I just like the look of the Sandberg bodies with that nice curved plate, and thought it might be helpful to mention it. -

A bit late to this, but here's a thought: what about those curved fender style plates that Sandberg use on their new Jazz style thing? Their bodies are a new shape and require a curved plate. Might solve your positioning problem without all that metal work. Secondly, the blocks look absolutely fine. When your bass is strung up and in the wild, i bet you don't notice. -
Good work!

Ok, thanks for that. I figured it would be tight, but it looks like it's not worth it for the gain. Do you find, like me, that you have learned more about musical instruments from fixing damage than anything else?!

New Stanley Clarke bass... by Fender????

I don't like the look of that. Parts bin special. -
Forgot about the bamboo! In the eighties I had a Yamaha G100 guitar combo, which I made a bamboo grille for. A mate got me a sheet of the stuff, and it needed soaking in hot water where it had to bend around the grille frame. I used an industrial gun tacker to staple the bamboo on the reverse side.I must say it looked awesome! If you can find some, give it a try.

Not pseud's corner to me. There are definitely artists whose character seems to come through in an uncanny (i.e. not easily detectable) way. I have been fixated on Miles Davis for this reason, also Joni Mitchell. She even devoted an album to Mingus, I just remembered. Can anybody else detect the thread that runs though the work of these people? It's not just the dots, is it?

Oops, I forgot to say I'm currently using D'addario's on my fretless Jazz, and they work good. And not too dear.
