  1. Ok, thanks for that. I figured it would be tight, but it looks like it's not worth it for the gain. Do you find, like me, that you have learned more about musical instruments from fixing damage than anything else?!
  2. I don't like the look of that. Parts bin special.
  3. Forgot about the bamboo! In the eighties I had a Yamaha G100 guitar combo, which I made a bamboo grille for. A mate got me a sheet of the stuff, and it needed soaking in hot water where it had to bend around the grille frame. I used an industrial gun tacker to staple the bamboo on the reverse side.I must say it looked awesome! If you can find some, give it a try.
  4. Not pseud's corner to me. There are definitely artists whose character seems to come through in an uncanny (i.e. not easily detectable) way. I have been fixated on Miles Davis for this reason, also Joni Mitchell. She even devoted an album to Mingus, I just remembered. Can anybody else detect the thread that runs though the work of these people? It's not just the dots, is it?
  5. Oops, I forgot to say I'm currently using D'addario's on my fretless Jazz, and they work good. And not too dear.
  6. Good idea, ta. I don't really understand these messaging things!
  7. There is a good supplier on eBay called Solsound. He has loads of different styles and colours of Tolex.
  8. Yeah, I figured that would be the case. Fender style truss rods dip in the middle toward the back of the neck. I'm trying to figure out if there is sufficient depth to allow for a bit of skimming.
  9. Very nice job. A leather strap handle would indeed top that off very well.
  10. Sorry, I should have said i was asking Twincam. My bad.
  11. I've got a Sub Ray 4 in my arsenal, and I think it is a really great bang for the buck. To get one for cheap is even better. As an inveterate fixer-upper, I am very curious to know: how deep into the neck was the truss rod? I was toying with the idea of slimming down the neck on mine, about 1.5mm, maybe you can clue us all in on the internal construction of the neck!
  12. Nice job! Always great to see rescue from disaster!
  13. Stap me through me vitals! I nearly bought one of these from a wee music shop in Torquay in about 1984. I thought it was the dog's bollocks then, and I still do.
  14. 850 watts!! And only sixty quid max from Currys. Very simple control set, no FX loop. We're all looking in the wrong place!
  15. That Bi-Phase type clone thing works awesome on guitar and piano.
  16. The truss rod would mos' def be too long.
