  1. D'addario's are the daddio!!
  2. Elixirs feel good to me, and last longer than anything else I've tried.
  3. Good idea, ta. I don't really understand these messaging things!
  4. As certain as night follows day.
  5. There is a good supplier on eBay called Solsound. He has loads of different styles and colours of Tolex.
  6. Yeah, I figured that would be the case. Fender style truss rods dip in the middle toward the back of the neck. I'm trying to figure out if there is sufficient depth to allow for a bit of skimming.
  7. Very nice job. A leather strap handle would indeed top that off very well.
  8. Sorry, I should have said i was asking Twincam. My bad.
  9. I've got a Sub Ray 4 in my arsenal, and I think it is a really great bang for the buck. To get one for cheap is even better. As an inveterate fixer-upper, I am very curious to know: how deep into the neck was the truss rod? I was toying with the idea of slimming down the neck on mine, about 1.5mm, maybe you can clue us all in on the internal construction of the neck!
  10. Nice job! Always great to see rescue from disaster!
  11. Stap me through me vitals! I nearly bought one of these from a wee music shop in Torquay in about 1984. I thought it was the dog's bollocks then, and I still do.
  12. 850 watts!! And only sixty quid max from Currys. Very simple control set, no FX loop. We're all looking in the wrong place!
  13. That Bi-Phase type clone thing works awesome on guitar and piano.
  14. The truss rod would mos' def be too long.
  15. That wee white amp with just two knobs looks interesting..
  16. Strangely reminiscent of a map of the USA.
  17. I just procured a Yamaha BBG 4A II fretless for £160. Photoflame top is nice! (I have no taste). Lovely and light, active electronics sound pretty good, plays nice.
  18. Ha! What’s the difference between an onion and a banjo? Nobody cries when you cut up a banjo.
  19. I love banjo jokes! Got any more, folks?
  20. ....and in the absence of Walter, Jon Herrington cut loose a bit more, I thought. You could could feel the grief and loss coming off of DF, and I thought the band were very slightly raggedy and shaken, in a good way. To me, SD songs are about alienation and being marginal. Read Eminent Hipsters if you find this strand of thought interesting. That night at the O2, those qualities we’re back in the frame big time. It was the most affecting SD gig I’ve ever been to. Just a shame I couldn’t hear Freddie Washington. I think I’m talking myself into buying tickets!
  21. The band are, without exception, stormingly good pros, who can groove like an army of mofo’s. Just a little.. polite. But the gold standard for musicianship, to my mind.
  22. Gorgeous. Is that the 42mm nut. If so, too big for me.
  23. Saw them last year at O2. Last few times I’ve seen them the bass has been muddy and indistinct. Also, they lack a little fire these days. Puts me off going again.
