  1. There were a LOT of rap acts!
  2. Do you mean The Big Feastival at Alex James’ place? It was indeed pishing down there yesterday! When were you on?
  3. Lovely basses.
  4. That Jon Cleary thing is aces!
  5. Anybody know what strings the SR500 comes with? The strings on mine (2 position minds switch so must be a couple of years old) are very nice and slippery . I’ve got a Yamaha BBG II fretless incoming. Excited!
  6. This is great. I do like a bit of confirmation bias. Thanks guys. Having come back to bass from guitar, I was hoping to escape the GAS death spiral, but NO! Those Prestige and Premium SR models look very cool but not too boo-teeky. In general I have given up on high end guitars and basses. Had some nice Gibsons back in the day. Now I like my bitsa Tele and Jap Strat, and was very happy with my bitsa Jazz until I played the Ibanez.
  7. I Don’t Need No Doctor, Humble Pie, Rockin’ The Fillmore. Also Hallelujah I Love Her So from the same album. Monster.
  8. On TalkBass liking the Barts is like being the spawn of Satan or something. I like the sound meself, but that’s because it’s my first go at active pickups. Can you suggest upgrades for the 500 should I decide they are too polite? Or am I on a slippery slope to eventually getting one of the posh SR’s with Nordstrands?
  9. Why thank you, gents.
  10. ..and my old Scottish mother used to call the neck of my guitar the “handle”.
  11. Wow! Good score!
  12. Yours looks quite shiny in the top pic. Has it been polished or oiled? Mine is only shiny where it is in contact with elbows etc.
  13. Nice group. I hope you enjoy your SR500. I just acquired one too, and I think it is great. Makes my Jazz bitsas and my Sub Ray 4 feel a bit agricultural.
  14. “Plectrum” is very Bert Weedon. When all we had was mail order cello guitars, as we used to call them.
  15. And and and why do people say neck thickness when they mean neck width? Annoying and confusing!
  16. Also consider a short or medium scale bass. The Chowny in Scott Whitley’s videos look to me to have narrower string spacing too, but I could be wrong.
  17. You can easily control the mids by making the adjustments I suggested. MarkBass amps of my experience do tend to honk a bit, but sound great live and loud. But I don't like honk either, so cut as suggested above.
  18. Turning VPF adds bottom but thins out the sound, in my experience. I increase low by one notch, low mid ditto, decrease hi mid by one notch. Simples.
  19. VPF (Variable Pre-shape Filter) center frequency 380 Hz (cut) VLE (Vintage Loudspeaker Emulator) frequency range 250 Hz-20 kHz (cut)
  20. Really beautiful!
  21. Nice! Ibanez make great basses.
  22. Where are you playing?
