Nice group. I hope you enjoy your SR500.
I just acquired one too, and I think it is great. Makes my Jazz bitsas and my Sub Ray 4 feel a bit agricultural.
-
“Plectrum” is very Bert Weedon. When all we had was mail order cello guitars, as we used to call them.

And and and why do people say neck thickness when they mean neck width? Annoying and confusing!
-
Also consider a short or medium scale bass. The Chowny in Scott Whitley’s videos look to me to have narrower string spacing too, but I could be wrong.

You can easily control the mids by making the adjustments I suggested.
MarkBass amps of my experience do tend to honk a bit, but sound great live and loud. But I don't like honk either, so cut as suggested above.

Turning VPF adds bottom but thins out the sound, in my experience.
I increase low by one notch, low mid ditto, decrease hi mid by one notch. Simples.

Where are you playing?
-
Thanks for that, Dave. I can totally imagine getting completely lost on a six string bass! Even though I’ve been playing six string guitar for a long time.
-
How did the wide neck feel, playing it for a whole show? I briefly investigated an Ibanez sixer in PMT Oxford. It felt HUGE to me, but I have weedy little guitar player hands.
-
Ibanez SR’s are great basses, very good value for money. I just got an SR500 and it is lovely to play. I’m guessing yours is too.
have fun!

Yamaha BB1000, quickly defretted and a Jazz pickup added by Norman Reed in Totnes. Got a second fretted sunburst one for a pair. I got them from a guy in Glasgow called Charlie Marks, who had a funny wee music shop in Kilmarnock Road. I also got a seventies Tele from Charlie. Everything always cost £150.

So, tinted but not lacquered? I see. Mine was tinted poly finish.
-
And now I’ve just noticed your neck have got maple boards with plastic blocks. Best not to take a heat gun to those..
-
I had a similar vintage tint neck. I used a heat gun judiciously to get the poly finish off, and then refinished it with a couple of coats of Liberon Finishing Oil. Looks much better and feels great.

I love this whole album. Makes me think of Quincy Jones’ Body Heat.

Very, very nice indeed. If only I had eight hundred quid.
-
Gawd. I used to have an old Epiphone Casino. They have buckets and buckets of mojo. Crazy cool bass.

That is not just blacker than a very black thing, it is shinier than a very shiny thing. Really beautiful.
-
So do I! I even play them sometimes!

Ooh, a black Les Paul shaped thing (or two). Sexy! All I ever wanted when I were a lad.
Good work, Christine!

Yours looks quite shiny in the top pic. Has it been polished or oiled? Mine is only shiny where it is in contact with elbows etc.
