  1. Wow! Shiny! Is that bridge pickup the same dimensions as an MM humbucker?
  2. True dat. I’m not a fan of distortion or drive type sounds anyways. But I have tried a few drive pedals with it, and it sounds okay, but what would I know?
  3. Well, I got me an SR500 a couple of weeks ago, and I am very pleased with it indeed. It has the Barts which get not much love, but I am totally digging on this thing. Light, nicely made, great neck. Pity about the turd brown finish, but maybe a coat of Liberon finishing oil might jazz it up a tad. It sounds great! It's my first active bass. I also picked up a Sterling Sub Ray 4 last week, and the Ibanez is way more versatile, but I like them both very much. Both are great bang for buck. Now, I just need a fretless version of the Ibby. Maybe I'll get me a 370e and yank the frets out. How does that sound, people?
  4. I’ve got a couple of pieces of Rocklite Ebano here. They are thin veneers, which would be suitable for headstock facings. The grain is quite open and very regular, it seems to me, and maybe a little soft. I think Christine’s idea that it may be plant fibre could be on the money.
  5. It’s not magnolia, it’s buttercream.
  6. I think there is a case for a small Cabronita plate, as suggested above. And then maybe you could afford to make that to make that a tort one..
  7. Oddly, I don’t recognise any of those names, but I’m pretty sure I saw Chaconne. I just about remember Jimmy Grant’s! Great to reminisce with you, Eddie! I think we’ve hijacked this thread! Maybe there needs to be a Caledonian Club thread on Basschat.. All the best Stu
  8. I think I remember your band! Can you name some of the members? I mostly hung with the Cado Belle/Croppa/Celebrate/Motels crew, who just wanted to be American when it was still ok to want that. I knew the Blue Nile boys, and did some art for them when they were the White Hats and the Parades. I totally bet I know you, at least to nod to in the venues you mention, or La Bonne Auberge or Nico’s!
  9. Strike me pink! I briefly played guitar in a band with John Manby, and another guitar player called Angie Antinori. This was post Croppa. I think John played in another band called Celebrate also. he was BIG into Louis Johnson, and didn’t really play any style except slap, when I knew him. He’s from Dundee, and had a couple of pals called Peem (Peter) and Pizzo. Pizzo was a big lad, and went on to road manage many big acts. When the Dundee boys got together they were absolutely hilarious. John was into martial arts, and could be very serious. Happy days!
  10. Would the Artec SE2-A preamp work for you? 25 quid from Thomann.
  11. Blimey, I'd forgotten about Landscape. Saw them a coupla times back in the day. They were great live.
  12. But how did fleabag get away with it at the top of the thread?
  13. Not fosters!! fosters! Stupid autocorrect. Or is the basschat filter algorithm thingy at work?? Hmmm..
  14. A bulldog licking fosters off a thistle. Brilliant.
  15. Jaco live on Shadows and Light. Pino Palladino on Wherever I Lay My Hat from No Parlez still kills me.
  16. Chet Atkins said to his dad “When I grow up I want to be a musician!” And his dad replied “Sorry, son, but you can’t do both.”
  17. Yes, it is near Bampton! Lucky I didn’t get him to do more stuff. Although he did come recommended, and did play th3 guitar he had set up for a friend. It was fine. Maybe he’s gotten better over the years..
