  1. if you get a svt you wont need a gym membership.
  2. genz stuff is still going for silly prices
  3. I never let anybody use my gear.it might make me look like a dick but I couldn't afford to replace any damaged stuff.and I doubt they would offer to pay anyways.so in the words of that simon cowell bloke "its a no im afraid"
  4. find a music shop near you and try as many amps as you can.you never know you might end up with a totally different amp
  5. update.im no longer in this band.last night I got a nice email off the drummer saying they were going to look for another bassist because the singer felt he couldn't work with me as I take practice too serious.i replied with no hard feelings pal and good luck.the music was pure cheese and not really my thing but I admit I enjoyed learning some different styles of music rather than just rock/metal but im not going to have sleepless nights over it.so on to the next one lol
  6. im not a pro just average.but we are looking at at least one gig a week.the it was the fact that we agreed two weeks to do the songs I drive for a living so im away from home some nights he has a 9 to 5 job but couldn't find time to do the songs
  7. "oh we only have one double plug socket on stage" and the "could you do three 45 min sets tonight"
  8. well 3 weeks ago I joined a new covers band.we all agreed a set list and said we would spent two weeks at home learning the songs and their structure before getting together and practicing as a band.so tonight we all got together and the singer/gutairist sets up his gear and gets loads of a4 bits of paper with the words on then turns to me and says so whats the chords for these songs then.i could have smacked him ...rant over if this is a sign of things to come then im outta here
  9. nope no issues with the streamliner or the focus cabs.and still no amp gas after about 16 months
  10. jeez that's expensive I thought my hgv medical was steep at £130
  11. every single one of my basses sport some kind of chip or dent its part of gigging im afraid.but its true every knock has a story
  12. have you stood out front once you have turned the bass down? because what sounds sh*te onstage can sound just right in the mix out front.I have a streamliner head and it took me ages to find that right sound I set the bass at 9/10 o'clock
  13. its a cracking bit of kit when you finally suss it out
  14. to be honest I think im sorted on the amp/cab front.ive had the cabs for about 15 months now and they are gigged once or twice almost every week and they have been no trouble at all the cabs have a nice amount of low end and mids I don't play with the horn on but when ive tried it it was nice and quiet not a noticeable amount of hiss.the streamliner on the other hand was far form the simple amp they made it out to be.it took me a good while to find the perfect tone.i found it by turning the bass down to about 9/10 o'clock.now I wouldn't part with amp or cab
  15. ok ill put my hand up im using 2 2x10 focus cabs stacked vertically with a streamliner head and the only thing that I thought felt flimsy was the 3 way switch for the horn on the back of the cab.apart from that they seem well braced and put together and they don't vibrate like my marshall mb cabs did.but they were awful cabs
  16. thanks all.I played it during our first set last night.god its heavy
  17. today I managed to get a second hand a squire vmj for for £120.im really pleased with the playability sound and construction the only thing that im not to happy about is the fretboard its filthy.now I've only ever had basses with rosewood boards so im really not sure the best way to clean it up and make it nice again.so any advice would be appreciated
  18. lately I've been thinking about treating myself to a squire vmj I know quite a few folk on here rave about them.but ive noticed on a lot of web sites like gak for one have different pricesfor the natural 70's and the natural 77 jazz and even more different prices for the painted ones.so is one vmj really worth £50 more than the other
  19. if you do try the streamliner don't be afraid to go nuts with the eq.i have the bass on mine at just 9-10 o'clock but it still sounds great
  20. im using a streamliner and 2xfocus 2x10 does the job and I can carry everything in one trip
  21. cheers
  22. as the title says really.im looking for some new cables and just wondered if anyone uses them and are they noticeably better than other cheaper cables
  23. surprised they have discontinued the vba that was a great head
  24. i bought one of the first production runs of the mb450h i also bought 1x15 and 4x10 to go with it.they were the most unreliable piles of tat ive ever had.they quickly got traded for some good old peavey gear
  25. we have played quite a few places with limiters.normally you can get around them by using plug sockets from a different room.but they are a massive pain in the arse
