If it was his recent appearance I'm pretty sure it was Guy Pratt...
100%! The burgundy mist Jazz is a dead giveaway!

How about "The Whole Worlds Watching" by The Walking Papers (Duff McKagan's project)? Definitely off-piste and super simple!
Have you got a link?
This 1 maybe? http://www.thomann.d...bass_rw_car.htm Lovely looking thing if it is, congrats!
How is everyone getting on with them? Is it reliable and accurate enough to do away with a dedicated strobe pedal tuner?...
Can't speak for anyone else but love mine, fast and accurate! Does what it say's on the tin...or box!

Getting a Jazz Bass to sound like a Musicman
Sammers replied to joshua.harris1234's topic in Bass Guitars
I've come to believe that pickup type and placement is more important to the fundamental tone of a bass than anything else.
+1 You're not really gonna get close to the sound of a Stringray with a Jazz. But if it's just for 1 song, I balance in favour of the bridge pick-up then use an EQ to scoop mids and boost the highs/lows a little bit. It's still no-where near the inherent sound of a SR but it's closer to my ears. -
Vaguely remember this song from their set at download but as you say, it's nice to hear the studio version. Can't wait for the winter tour! 😀
Do you know what kind of paint would you use for something like this? My fiance is thinking of doing something like this for me on a "display" bass
I couldn't even hazard a guess, my arts and crafts skills are that of an infant child - Sorry!

The good thing about being a lefty is that I can't get too jealous when watching videos like this! But that White '59 P with matching headstock... jesus!! Pretty sure he brought the '63 black Jazz with matching headstock from Bass Direct, I think Geddy sent them a picture when he got it and they put it up on FB. His tech will never be short on work though, eh?

Giving Soul/Disco covers the "Rock" makeover?
Sammers replied to skidder652003's topic in General Discussion
I love the origional but I didn't think it worked as a rock song (we did the Beck Bogart Appice version).
Have you heard the Phil X cover of superstition? All sorts of good stuff! ...IMO anyway -
The young guy with bad timing, poor technique, cliched licks, but good hair winning his group was a travesty. However, I have learned that he is related to the owner of the 100 Club where it was filmed. Coincidence?
I've gotta agree with that, seemed less about the playing more about the rockstar factor to me. Will probably watch the final but thought the whole premise of the show is a bit pants really.

At £399 I bet the internals are pretty low-spec, If they've cheaped out on a lower end CPU after 6 months the phones going to be a nightmare to use daily.

What a beaut, love the colour! Being a P, what's the neck like? Jazz-esque or a bit chunkier like a modern P? If I had the chance to get another I would in a heartbeat, I got quite lucky picking up a used 1.. especially being a lefty!

Might pop into PMT Brum at lunch to pick 1 up as it say's they have it in stock, my Boss clip-on doesn't play nice with B Strings and is a tad unsure sometimes
What sort of batteries does it take? those coin shaped ones or normal ones?
The website says the button/coin type batteries, "Up to 18 hours of usage via a standard Lithium Coin Battery (CR2032)"

Just for laughs - worst bass colour ever...? Pics reqd.
Sammers replied to goonieman's topic in Bass Guitars
I quite like Antigua...
I'm with you, I'd love an Antigua P! Then again... I quite like that Stratoburst too, so I might just be a weirdo. -
Good question, I use that feature a lot in spotify
You can download music for offline use, not sure on download limit though. Not particularly blown away by it after a few days use, turned off auto-renewal and continuing to use Spotify.

Anybody any idea what this guy is on about?
Sammers replied to MiltyG565's topic in General Discussion
If the shop was that bad and the manager really such an awful bloke, why not just shop elsewhere? It looked a bit like PMT in Birmingham to me....
It's definitely not PMT Brum. -
If the Electra models have the same truss as German models it's just an allen key. I do remember it being unusually troublesome to the key into the TR socket though. I couldn't tell you what size to use as I haven't adjusted it for a while but it was definitely an allen key and not some bespoke tool

Difference between string-through and bridge stringing?
Sammers replied to Naetharu's topic in Bass Guitars
I brought up my observation that stringing through the body kills the strings quicker.
Hmm......interesting! I picked up a used Mike Lull back in March/April time and noticed that the B string (which is through body) lost it's liveliness a lot quicker than the other strings with a fresh set of DR Nickels LRs. Although the B string doesn't sit on the nut properly as the taper is about 5mm too short on DR's for 35" scale & through body. I put it down to the nut situation and inexperience with a 5th string (as the Lull is my first), which neither probably help if i'm honest. -
I saw that myself. Surely it's not mixed up with that is it? It's all over Twitter. People paying respects including famous musicians. But still can't find any official word???
I'm in the same boat with you, I reckon that maybe someone saw the date on Wiki and ran with it. Though I also saw on twitter that apparently his brother broke the news? I'm skeptical and hope it's a hoax/error... but it will be a hell of a loss if it's true, only 60 too

Just a heads up you might not be able to order the more traditional Fender shaped Sandberg's anymore, they've introduced their own body design and are phasing out the J and P shapes. You might be able to custom order the old shape but i'm guessing you'll have to pay custom prices for it. These are the new shaped Sandberg's introduced earlier this year: Lovely basses though! Mine, though heavy, sounds massive!

Songs you discovered you can actually play!
Sammers replied to Roger2611's topic in General Discussion
Even though it's not really a bass on the record, I recently found I could play Two Tribes by Frankie Goes to Hollywood with fairly little practice. A couple watches of Trevor Horn playing it on Youtube and i'd pretty much got it down. It was one of those "Maybe I have actually improved" moments! -
Jazz bass - problem blending pickups
Sammers replied to Cosmo Valdemar's topic in General Discussion
Have you thought about installing a blend pot in place of 1 of the volumes? Both my Sandberg (Passive) & Mike Lull (Bartolini Pre) have this setup and both have a very even blend, it's awesome for adjusting on the fly I've no experience with V/V/T jazzes though so have never come across your issue! -
If it's friction from the strings causing the sore then super-gluing the end of your fingertips helps a tonne. Cover the problem areas, let it dry and it'll create a hard coating for your fingers... simple yet effective! I'd let your current sore heal first before doing this though!

That's odd, I've got a hardcore aged Jazz from Sandberg and the pick guard is relic'd to match the body/neck. Maybe the Marlowe DK model is spec'd this way?
