  1. I always take 2 no matter how close or far away the gig. If something goes wrong and you can`t sort it for whatever reason and you don`t have a spare then it`s amateur hour.

I have a Gator double gig bag that always come with me but I must admit with 2 basses and the weight of the bag, it`s a pain to carry. A while back I bought one of those Mini Squier P basses and it was ideal but felt like a kids bass at the end of the day.

But at the same time I realise that I may never need a spare. It`s just whatever suits you.

    I suspect they don't give a monkey's.

This exactly. Having worked in the transport/logistics sector most of my days including with several parcel delivery companies, my wife who has always worked in the NHS doesn`t believe me when I say that the majority of the people who work in these companies just don`t give a baboon`s rear.

  3. Never paid to play as I have always done covers but we are doing a support act in December where we aren`t actually getting any money up front but we are being given some tickets to sell. Luckily we have sold 90% of the tickets already and the last few are being given to family. It will work out roughly the same cash as being paid for the gig and it`s a good gig for us to play as the main band has a nationwide following so getting the band name out there is a bonus.

  4. One of the guys local to me had their van and drum kit stolen from the Premier Inn in Walsall. He plays for the Bay City Rollers and the kit has a tartan design so if any of you guys down that way can spread the word it would be appreciated. This is the facebook post. Thanks

    URGENT - TO ALL DRUMMERS

Our Head of Music Thomas Jamie McGrory has had his drums stolen from the Premier Inn in Walsall. The van has gone too, it is a white crewvan. He plays for the Bay City Rollers and is currently on tour. The drumkit is hand painted with a tartan design and is the only one of its kind in the world.

I don’t need to tell you he is devastated. If you hear or see anything please phone the police.

Words fail me, I just feel sick because I know how much he loved this drum kit.

DRUMMERS OF WORLD PLEASE SHARE and keep a look out - Thank You, Tommy

Cards on the table - I'm not convinced that Andertons do much in the way of checking beyond "is there a bass in there?" and maybe "is it the right colour?" - my Z7 had some sticky dark stuff on the inside of the top horn and around the strap button.  A bit of WD40 and it came right off.  I wasn't going to mention such a tiny detail as it seemed petty and utterly insignificant, but seeing as we're on the subject it was mildly irksome that I had to clean some sticky shyte off my new bass.

In my experience they do sod all checks. I bought a new G&L Tribute a few years back and it had a good few faults and a few days later after I returned it, it was listed for sale in the shop as B stock.

I`m guessing if you are buying a bog standard Fender or similar they don`t even open the box, if you are buying something expensive they will check it. I`m thinking they don`t have the staff to check each guitar they send out. One of the downsides of buying from a large box shifter operation.

If you're not getting huge thumping bass that sounds like an approaching Godzilla or some kid in a ricer then you're doing something right. I've worked with plenty of sound men at the top of the food chain who didn't get it right, prime examples of the Peter Principle at work.

I was watching a band last night in a small pub and this is what was happening. When the bass player used his low B it was a most unpleasant.

  7. Bought this on here a couple of months back and it`s a great example of a P bass but an expensive incoming bass means I`ve gotta shift some stuff.

This is a 2013 Mexican model in honey blonde. It has the vintage specs, 44 mm nut width, all gloss neck, vintage style pickup, vintage reverse open gear tuners and a gold ionized aluminium scratch plate which as you can see isn`t fitted as I like the contrast with the black better. The original will be supplied. The bridge was changed out sometime in the past and I don`t have the original BBOT.

It has a few dings: one on the rear, a few on the body edge and one on the back of the neck. The bass weighs 9.4 LB`s. It will come in a brand new basic Thomman gig bag and the price includes shipping to a UK address, if you can collect from Paisley I will knock off the postage costs.

I bought the bass for my asking price and most of these seem to start up higher in price but usually end up going for around £500.

People who missed out on the SBMM Joe Dart?  People who like paying nearly twice as much for something as they would stateside?

    Good point.

On the GG page down at the bottom there is a SUB Ray for £399. I realise that is pretty cheap for one of these now as most seem to be around £430 but they are much better than this new model.

Sounds to me like they're expecting the UK to help artificially keep the domestic US price down.

    Very good of them... :(

That would certainly be enough to push me to picking up the Sire Z3 instead, only another £49 and a whole lot better value for money.

Thanks bit no thanks "Mr Ball".

Agreed. I like SBMM but these are quite ugly, just doesn`t look right without the control plate and it seems to draw my eyes towards the ugly bridge . I wonder who they are aiming this model at?

  10. My band doesn`t have a leader as such but I would say that 3 out of the 5 of us have more to do with the running of it. But this morning I have had to cancel a gig we were doing in a couple of weeks with another band due to one of our members having a personal issue. We don`t use deps, tried in the past and it`s not worth the hassle.

Felt bloomin rotten telling the other BL we couldn`t do the gig but he seemed ok about it. I`m too much of a worrier to do the sole BL thing.

  11. Same here. As well as owning all the pa, I seem to be the only one who carries any spares. It does get on my wick sometimes when I`m trying to get the pa up and running and the 2 guitarist`s are faffing about getting their "tone" sorted instead of helping with the set up. But maybe they are better out of it as they would knacker the gear due to not knowing single thing about it.

  12. It does work well for bass but the only thing I would say is if you intend to use it to replace your amp on occasion, try and buy the best one you can afford. RCF, QSC and Yamaha are all good. I used a 15 inch RCF as I play in a rock band but I wouldn`t go any smaller than a 12 inch active speaker.

  13. For sale only a as new Classic Vibe Jazz. It is a ltd edition model and is a higher spec than the usual CV.

It features a bound neck, Kluson type machine heads, bone nut, gloss finish neck, narrow tall frets, painted headstock, full size pots, 4 ply scratch plate and 4 saddle vintage style bridge. The laurel board is nice and dark and could pass for rosewood.

It weighs in at 10 lb`s so not the lightest. The white is not as bright as it appears in the photo`s.

  14. My main rig for the last few years has been an RCF 715 with various pre amps going into it but recently I bought a s/h Rumble 500. I had one a few years back and sold it but I used it on our last gig and it sounded great, filled the room easily without going through the pa so I will use this as my go to for a while.

  15. I have gigged a SBMM Sub Ray for the last few years and they are great basses. I have stuck a EMG pickup in it and it sounds fine. Put it this way, I bought a 3 band Japanese Stingray that was almost 3 times the price of the Sub but I like the Sub more so the Jap one went.
