1. Geoff, you are the first person I have ever heard praising a EBO! The one I had was the biggest pile of cack I have ever played. I wish I knew you were looking for SS flats. I have a brand new set of Status ones you could have had.
2. I had a set of those Steve Harris strings. Cost me around £30 and the E sting broke whilst I was putting it round the tuner. I only took the strings off to put lemon oil on the fret board. I have not bought Rotosounds since.
3. The bass player from the band Peace, who were on Jools the other night, was playing a r/h Mustang bass upside down. Looked bloomin stupid. Same with that guy in the Doves.
4. I have spent an absolute fortune on music mags since the early 80`s. Could have bought a pre CBS P bass with the money. I must stick up for Guitar & Bass magazine here. Good interviews, vintage gear stories and decent reviews.
5.
That is a strap button. I am no fender autority but i believe they used to, or maybe still do put these on the vintage reissue basses. I seem to remember they were fitted to allow players switching from upright bass to play the electric bass in a position they were more accustomed to. So basically strap from back of the body to headstock for extreme angles. As I said I am no Fender expert so I wouldnt be suprised if what I have just said in nonsense.
You are now a Fender expert as this is correct!! I have one on the rear of my Jap re issue 57 P.
6. Agree with you 100% Ezbass. I have just learned how to use the Ignore function of the website and feel a lot better.
7. Here is my bit of freedom of speech. Anyone remember the good old days when we used to talk about all aspects of PLAYING THE BASS on here.
8. Pitch forks and flaming torches at the ready..... Nah I`m kidding. I agree with the work you are gonna do. It will look cool and sound like only a mudbucker can.
9. I`d go for the Ibby as I have never owned a bad one and it`s much cheaper than the Warwick. Or how about a Short scale Jag? Good looking bass and easily upgradeable if you so desire. 10. Edited as the singer got his ass, not kicked but gently prodded and has come good
11. I always buy decent cables. What`s the point in spending lots of cash on a guitar and amp and then getting cheap cables? I have a few Award Session cables I bought about 4 years ago and they have never let me down even though I have the habbit of standing on them when playing. I also have a Bullet 30 foot curly lead for a bit of retro madness!
12. Sounds good. This is what I should have done with my GL L2000 Tribute as I loved the bass but the neck was far too "thick." Would have saved myself a fortune and had a damm good bass. I had a MD for a while and apart from the weight, it was a great bass. Looking forward to the pics.
13. Is this the best invisible bass for metal?
14. I`ve used an Ashdown MAG300 head for about 10 years now. In that time I have owned SWR and TC amps and much prefer the MAG and have moved the other amps on. It`s very much down to personal taste. Sure, some people accuse them of being woolly, going on fire occasionally but what the heck. It would be a sad world if we all liked the same gear.
15. Merchant City in Glasgow have a Ltd Edition Sabre with a "special" paint job but at £2345, they can keep it! http://www.guitar.co.uk/guitars/bass_guitars/bass_4_string_bass_guitars/1697_music_man_classic_sabre_pdn_sledge_bass
16. For me, I`m always interested in fellow musicians gear. I have no desire to sound like any of the players I like. Basically I`m just a nosey git, but isn`t that one of the reasons that a lot of us come on here?
17. Whilst on the subject of the Eagles, if there are any Bernie Leadon fans out there, this is a great album he made in 1977. 18. I got a set of D`addario half rounds, medium scale and they are spot on size but that`s good to know the long scale chromes are a good fit.
19.
I just returned a Fender Pawn Shop Mustang. I thought the 30" scale is a PITA. (Pain In The Azz) I've had both the Mustang, and the Gibson SG Std. If I was going to do a short scale bass again, the Gibson would be my choice. I use D'Addario ETB92S Nylon Tapewound strings for short scale basses. The 30" scale on the Fender doesn't work right with the silk winding ends of the strings. The Gibson 30.5" works with no problem. Hardshell Fender cases are a nightmare to get. The gig bag it comes on is to long for it. The Gibson is the way to go.
Just a tip for anyone buying a Mustang. When buying strings, get medium scale strings as the short scale one`s are too short due to the string through body. Stringsdirect is the place to help you out. Yours sincerely Mr Learned from Experiance
20. Bugger it. Can`t wait to see it now and have ordered it from Amazon.
21. This dvd or part of it anyway, is going to be on BBC tv within the next few weeks, possibly on BBC 4 on a friday night. I don`t know when but I am looking forward to it. It`s good that Frey and co gave the other guys their say. Can`t say I`m over keen on their music but you can`t beat a good rock n roll yarn!
22. That`s the bass that is strung upside down as he learned to play on a left handed bass played upside down. Duck egg blue I would say
23. Some companies when sending high value fragile goods, put a gizzmo on it that is like a spirit level bubble and if the box/package is handled roughly, it breaks and turns red and you can tell right away if it has been mishandled and mark the delivery note accordingly. Might be a good idea for high value amps, cabs etc.
24. Here is a Ya Tube clip showing Chris and Steve Howe`s gear. Good interview for Ric fans. http://youtu.be/bsGjl6kP0SI
