1.
I just returned a Fender Pawn Shop Mustang. I thought the 30" scale is a PITA. (Pain In The Azz) I've had both the Mustang, and the Gibson SG Std. If I was going to do a short scale bass again, the Gibson would be my choice. I use D'Addario ETB92S Nylon Tapewound strings for short scale basses. The 30" scale on the Fender doesn't work right with the silk winding ends of the strings. The Gibson 30.5" works with no problem. Hardshell Fender cases are a nightmare to get. The gig bag it comes on is to long for it. The Gibson is the way to go.
Just a tip for anyone buying a Mustang. When buying strings, get medium scale strings as the short scale one`s are too short due to the string through body. Stringsdirect is the place to help you out. Yours sincerely Mr Learned from Experiance
2. Bugger it. Can`t wait to see it now and have ordered it from Amazon.
3. This dvd or part of it anyway, is going to be on BBC tv within the next few weeks, possibly on BBC 4 on a friday night. I don`t know when but I am looking forward to it. It`s good that Frey and co gave the other guys their say. Can`t say I`m over keen on their music but you can`t beat a good rock n roll yarn!
4. That`s the bass that is strung upside down as he learned to play on a left handed bass played upside down. Duck egg blue I would say
5. Some companies when sending high value fragile goods, put a gizzmo on it that is like a spirit level bubble and if the box/package is handled roughly, it breaks and turns red and you can tell right away if it has been mishandled and mark the delivery note accordingly. Might be a good idea for high value amps, cabs etc.
6. Here is a Ya Tube clip showing Chris and Steve Howe`s gear. Good interview for Ric fans. http://youtu.be/bsGjl6kP0SI
7.
Buy it some flowers and wine.
You old romantic devil you!
8. In my last band we had to sack the drummer. He turned up with a Premier drum kit. He should have know that the best drum kit for Metal is a Pearl Export. Plonker.
9. You gave it a go and you seem to have learned from the experiance. At least you still want to do it!! Some charity gigs are a pain in the buttocks. Usually arranged by people who have no concept of how to run an event but they mean well. And we have all played gigs when you would rather be at the bar than on stage doin yer thing. And any gigging musician who says otherwise is lying.
10.
I'm glad you said that so I didn't... bloody hell!
Welcome, to the Twilight Zone Basschat style
11.
Ive got the Steve Harris signature P bass and its a pretty authentic replica of the one he used in the 80s (as seen in Live After Death and Maiden England videos). He has also been using the signature model in the British Lion promo videos and recent live shows. When his house was up for sale a couple of months ago, this bass could also be seen in one of the pictures in the estate agents particulars!
The P he used in the 80`s is still his main bass today with a different paint job. The sig is a lovely bass.
12. What a bunch of dicks!
13. That`s great Mike but I am on the waiting list to go on Mark D Phillips, guitar improver/master bodger, guitar course.
14.
I've been asked how much my bass cost, but no-one's offered to buy it.
Will you take £14.50? Just askin
15. Raygun?? He wants to turn it on himself and do the decent thing! One of the biggest piles of crap I have been unfortunate to look at.
16.
Would a 74 Jazz have a bullet trussrod anyway? I thought they were quite a bit more recent than that, so the description is wrong but if it was right, the truss rod wouldn't be right for the period.
There was a few versions of the Jazz around the 74-75 ish period, some with the 3 bolt and bullet truss rod and some with 4 bolt necks. Bit of a transition period you might say. But the sunburst on this looks like a cheap 70`s Jap copy.
17. Don`t know if anyone has posted this yet, if not well worth a looky! http://www.ebay.com/itm/JACO-PASTORIUS-JAZZ-BASS-1975-FENDER-FRETLESS-ORIGINAL-/151031567068? The description and questions and answers are "intresting"
18.
honestly... as if you are supple enough to get your leg on the mantlepiece!! This post means nothing without photos
NO!! Think of the children!
19. If some people think this place is bad, the Status Quo forum on the bands official site was closed recently due to all the abuse that was being directed towards the band. I think that the mods should give Discreet a position, something like Moderator of Silliness and when a thread gets too heavy, who you gonna call.....
20. Man up and rip the frets out if you dont need the cash from a sale. It might send you down a different road....And is dead easy to do. After all, it`s only a Rockbass, what have you got to lose
21. Musicians without transport? Pain in the bloomin ar*e!!! This should be one of the unwritten rules of being in a band.
22. He`s got a blooming cheek wanting to charge extra for the wardrobe, I mean case.
23. Old budget stuff and not too fantastic. Were around before you could buy decent quality budget basses. I had an accoustic Kay guitar yonks ago and it was dreadful. Put me off the accoustic for life.
