1. The Big Figure and John B Sparks from Dr Feelgood who I have just re-discovered. Cliff Williams and Phil Rudd. Steve Harris and Nicko.
2. Always have faith in your own abilites. I know very little theory but like yourself can play lots of songs and that is good enough for me. When I was starting out and had very little confidence, a guitar player said to me " if you have no faith in your abilites, how do you expect anyone else to?" You are a musician and a Rock n Roll star!
3. I`going to see about getting one of these tomorrow. Going for the sunburst colour. I took my old T bird down to the studio the last coupie of visits and seem to be getting on with the shape and how it hangs (ooer missus) on me. This looks like a right decent bit of kit for the money. Put it this way, I`m gonna get on with it this time!! Well she who must be obeyed has put the kybosh on this purchase for the moment
4. Hey guys and Gals!! Guitarguitar have 2 of these in stock. I was going to get one but I`m a bit short of the cash the noo so will buy a Epi Tbird classic. And they do 12 months intrest free as well
5. Thoman has them arriving on the 18th of January, so I would image the UK shops will have them at the same time.
6. I don`t know if they are available yet. Haven`t seen any, it always says coming soon.
7. At the moment I own 2 and they are only worth around £180 each. Not so long ago, I had 9 but that was frankly, mental! I am about to start doing pub gigs again shortly so I will keep my eye open for a cheap Yammy or similar to take as a back up to one of the other 2. I would really like to own and gig one bass but am too much of a woosy pants to do that. The thought of my main gigging bass going kapoot for whatever reason on a gig and not having a back up, is too scary to think about.
8. Asking for bass tabs??? On here??? Did you get a suit of armour for xmas??? Try Ultimate guitar or 911 tabs and take it from there...
9. Aye, but he`s a talanted ugly b*stard!!
10.
Jason Newsted / Metallica Clifford Williams / ACDC
Having played in an ac/dc tribute act, I know this is so wrong. He may only play root notes most of the time but his timing and overall playing is bang on. Always. You should try and play a full set of songs at the pace he does. Another guy who play what the song requires. Like Adam Clayton, Roger Waters etc.
11. Good to hear it`s still kicking about. I thought it was still "on here." You are right about the neck, it puts a Tbird to shame.
12. They were all made by Status and still are. The one I had (serial no: 101) sounded really nice with the Jazz style pickups, 2 band EQ and active / passive switch. I don`t remember it being all that heavy but to my eyes it was ugly and I had to get shot of it. If you like the looks of it, they are cracking basses.
13. I had a 70`s reissue Jazz and it was very nice. If you like the bound/blocked neck go for it. The tuners are really nice Fender stamped ones if I remember right. But as the old saying goes, only you can decide if it`s worth the extra cash. For me it was. And you have answered your own question in your 2nd post. You like the feel and look, so, what are you bothering about playing a standard for? Go for it and be happy
14. Don`t know if this will be any use to you but here goes. A few years ago I stayed on the 3rd floor of a tenament flat and bought a Ashdown Mag 300. At round about 30kg`s in weight it didn`t take me too long to remove the head, build an MDF sleeve for it and I fitted an additional speaker output onto the headless cab. I still use this head along with a TC 2x10. Your idea is a good one if, as you state above, it`s possible to separate the components. You mention the HB 2x10 cab but the Hartke 2x10 is 16kg and is cheaper on Thoman. I cannot say how good these cabs are as I have never owned any of their gear but it`s worth a look http://www.thomann.de/gb/cat.html?gf=2x10_bass_cabinets&oa=pra
15. Kevin, I don`t know what you do for a living but if it ain`t building / constructing guitars then you are wasting your talent! The finish on that Tele is superb.
16. At the moment they are all in a plastic tool box but sometimes I use one of those metal briefcase type things. The only problem with the briefcase thing is that you put everything in nice and neatly and then have to turn it up on it`s side to transport and everything fly`s around inside. But they look cool! I think I have a toolbox fetish as I love going into B&Q and admiring them.
17. This is a handy topic as I am learning Mama I`m coming home by Ozzy for a possible project and the verse sounds as if it`s played on a fretless. Not having a frettless, this topic hits the spot!!
18. Don`t forget that a few of the more expensive ranges have a passive option on a switch or by pulling up the volume control, thus bypassing the pre amp.
19. For £60 in good nick, that`s a deal. They are decnet enough basses and can be made much better with some budget upgrades. A good little project for the holiday season!
20. My thinking is the jack socket was moved to accomodate the extra knob for the active circut but is no longer in place so possibly the bass could be wired as passive? It has a few issues: moved strap button, non original bridge, different knobs...but at the end of the day, you might like the sound and feel of the instrument. I seem to remember this was quite cheap for a mid 70`s P, especially considering the s/h prices in guitarguitar. The biggest benefit you have is if you don`t like it, let them know and send it back. But, it may be love at first feel as Bon said............
21. I guess I must have got the "one" that was set up in the shop .
22. Don`t be silly!!! When has that mantra "I don`t need any more basses" ever worked!! It just goes to show, we really do get ripped off when it comes to the price of bass guitars compared to the old US.
23. I have an Sr300 as well one of the 2012 models with the different pickups. It cost me £250 from Guitarguitar and I havent had to adjust anything at all with regards to the set up, it is exactly the way it left the shop. I prefer the Ibanez pickups and pre amp in this to the Bart`s that are fitted to the Sr 500 and 700 models, both of which I have owned. I sometimes think of getting something else but the feel, sound and the build quality of the cheapo Ibby keeps GAS in check. For the moment
24. Four days for a T bird, 3 days for a set of tuners. What DB did you order?
