The pa is necessary for a gigging band. The whole band should chip in for it, regardless if you sing through it or put your bass amp through it or have nothing at all going through it. No pa means no gigs in lots of cases. Work out a figure before hand for someone leaving the band and get it in writing. I agree that the duo thing makes it a bit more complicated but you should all get together in one place and work it out. Sending texts and e mails isn`t the right way to sort out something that may cause a lot of friction in the band. Or else, let the duo keep their pa and hire in a pa to do the bands gigs. Jez

It looks like when he bought the neck it was mabye a bit too wide for the neck pocket and he has enlarged one side instead of both sides. Apart from that it`s still a pile of crap. Jez

A few weeks ago I went down for a play with a band who "had knocked back loads of gigs and were ready to gig once the bass is in place." I spoke to the guy on the phone and he seemed reasonably sensible so I thought I would pop down. They gave me a list of 18 songs and I got to work. By the night of the jam, I had them all down apart from a couple. Turned up and the guitarist was there with a Ric 6 string. Must be no bad I`m thinking, expensive guitar. But we started playing and they knew about 4 of the songs all the way through, the rest they knew bits of but what pissed me off was they couldn`t finish songs off. I asked them how did they know when to end the songs, you know, signal from the drummer or lead guitarist or anyone really! The guitarist said that they didn`t need to bother as it was only a jam. It kind of went down hill from there and after 2 hours I called it a day. Bloomin amatuers!! Oh and the gigs? They had been offered 2 by the pub that the lead guitarist worked in. Jez

Re the skunk stripe. If it has a rosewood fingerboard or a maple neck with a separate maple fingerboard there is a good chance it won`t have the skunk stripe as they can fit the truss rod before fiiting the board. If it is a one piece maple neck, it will have a skunk stripe. I think CBS bought Fender in 64 so your bass is defo post CBS. Jez

I would say it`s a good deal as OLP`s usually go for £120-£150 and a Tokia around £370-£480 ish. The Tokia is always going to be worth the same money, certainly not any less, mabye a bit more in the future if it`s in decent nick and if you say this one is mint, I would go for it. Jez

Looks like it. It has the MM style bridge as well. I don`t recall OLP making any other kind of bass designs. And I wouldn`t call that a bass design! Jez

Isn`t that always the way with Fender`s when they change things? There always seemed to be a year or so when they made major changes to a bass,when the 2 specs sort of appeared side by side. Jez

According to The Fender Bass book, aka "the bible" 1974/5 "The thumbrest is moved to the bass side of the body.Like their rosewood counterparts, Jazz bass maple necks are given pearl block inlays and white binding. Prior to that, maple necks were bound in black with a black block inlay. Three bolt necks are the norm on Jazz basses and installation of black pickgaurds is being standardized on all models." So there is is a good chance that it could be legit but as the guy has previous..... Jez

Great deal that. But you can buy a brand new Jim Deacon bass from cc music in Glasgow for £129 that hasn`t been "re-furbished" by this guy. I would read the post in the E bay section of the forum before deciding to take a punt on this and make up your own mind. I can`t find the link but it`s there somewhere. Jez
