2. Ta Daz for the nice words. I just like reading about the music biz but I`m running out of room to keep them all. If no one on here wants them, off to the charity shop they go! Jez
3. Got quite a few rock biographies that I had on gumtree for sale but no one seems to want them. If anyone wants them you can come round and collect them. I will not post them. Pm me if you want any of them or all of them. And no taking them off me and putting on E bay or similar!! Pink Floyd/Nick Mason - Inside out, story of Floyd Jeff Beck - Hot wired guitar biography Glen Hughes - autobiography Free and Bad company Duff McKagan - autobiography Dave Mustaine - autobiography Queen unseen Ozzy and Sharon Ozbourne- Ordinary people Elvis - Last train to memphis Dave Grohl -Nothing to lose The Police - Walking on the moon Jez
4. Great deal that. But you can buy a brand new Jim Deacon bass from cc music in Glasgow for £129 that hasn`t been "re-furbished" by this guy. I would read the post in the E bay section of the forum before deciding to take a punt on this and make up your own mind. I can`t find the link but it`s there somewhere. Jez
5. Wow!! That`s ++++AWA Nah ain`t saying it. Really cool looking bass. Jez
6. Featuring that well know Strat player Brian May!! He even comes on at the end during the simply shocking version of stay with me playing his Red special. Are we missing the point Mr May? I have had the dvd version for a few years and it`s mostly good except too much Joe Walsh. Jez
7. I didn`t look at the pics, I assumed the op was taliking about the 70`s Jap one with the block maple neck. If this was the one he was refering to, I`d buy that one. I still wouldn`t pay the price for those US specials. It was only a couple of years ago you could buy a Highway 1, the bass I believe the special replaced, for around £550. And 5 posts to pull us up? Are you bored Jez
8. The American Special? Built in the good old US by Mexicans. I would rather search about for a good MiM than buy one of these. I`d buy the Jap one myself. Or, 800 will get you a really nice US standard second hand on here with the fancy case. Jez
9. Who cares what it`s called! If it is a decent budget bass at a decent price, I don`t give a monkeys what it says on the end of the headstock. The original SUB basses died a few years ago and if anyone is looking for an original one, they can get one second hand. Where`s the problem? It seems that EB has come to the conclusion that Fender came to and realised that if you build a good budget bass, when the person has more experiance/cash they might buy one of the US made models and if you can`t afford a US one, well, mabye the cheap one will do. Jez
10. I don`t think the body is a Squier as they normally route out the wood so it`s easier to wire the neck pickup. The Mexican bodies usually have the circular "stash" hole on the body that means you can`t use with the pickgaurd off. They tuners are the kind that are fitted to the Mexican Standards. Even the cheap Jap one`s I have seen have the flat tops that pertrude through the headstock. You can get Jap necks with the skunk stripe. The decal looks genuine but it may be a bitsa bass made from Fender bits. If you are happy with the way it plays, enjoy it. But please cut off those bits of excess strings!! Jez
11. If I ever have any spare cash available again, I`m having a white one. Jez
12. Bought Sep 2011 from guitarguitar, used for 2 gigs, fell out with band and has had only light use in home since. Selling as I don`t have a band at the mo and I need the cash. Really good condition, spec below, will include a decent speaker cable with sale. Pick up from Paisley or will meet up if not too far. http://www.tcelectro...0-techspecs.asp 500 watts, built in compressor and tuner, 13kg, 3 programable pre sets, tube simulator. Any questions give me a shout. Sold on gumtree Jez
13. If it cost £57, I would defo put it on!! Even if I didn`t like it Jez
14.
I wouldn't be too upset about the way your feedback thread has gone. There's always two sides to every story and I'm sure if someone reads your whole feedback thread they'll draw their own conclusions about your honesty and integrity.
Agreed. Stay with it Karl. Jez
15. Re the neck, I think it`s 44mm across the nut and is a bit more of a handfull than the standard P basses. It may be a bit of a shock going from a Jazz neck to one of these but if you can get used to it, there is no better traditional P bass for the money. Or get a Mike Dirnt P bass, slightly smaller neck and fantastic tone and sustain. Almost as sexy looking as a 50`s as well. Jez
16. 2 hours to sort out his pedals? Tell him to get it sorted before he arrives for a rehersal. Or have a whip round and get him a pedalboard. Jez
17. The necks on the Jazz`s from that era would be one of the reasons for buying one from this period. Have a look through the for sale section as there have been a few 70`s models for sale recently. Also, a few years ago the 70`s were derided as Fender`s dodgy build quality decade whereas now they are all "vintage classics and not too heavy either." Jez
18. Using it as a back up bass????? 2nd fiddle to a Jazz???? That is below the belt Great basses. Buy one, you won`t be dissapointed. Jez
19. Go to the members tab at the top of the page, just below the basschat logo and you will find the guys you are looking for in there and send them a PM, personal message. Easy peasy. Jez
20. Go for a Squier or a Yam as Daz says. Much better playability and if you buy s/hand and want to move it on, you will get your money back. Buy a Yamaha 414, you will find some glowing reviews on here for them and the neck isn`t too wide. Also as your friend is selling the fleabass as it`s a "one trick pony", why would you be happy with it? Oh, and the s/hand Fleabass I tried in a shop was sh*t! Jez
21. You have to be careful ordering pickgaurds for Fender/Squires as a Mex one is slightly different to a US one etc. The screw holes don`t always match up and the neck fit sometimes needs a bit of adjustment with a file. Someone who has an Affinity will advise no doubt. You can get a new bridge from Allparts, W D Music, Axesrus and CH Guitars on e bay. The first 2 are quite expensive and sell the well know brand names and the other 2 sell some un branded stuff but still look good to me but I haven`t used them. If you are fitting a Wizard, you would be as well changing the pots and wiring when you are at it. Jez
22. A pic would help. Is that the red one with the neck binding and blocks? Jez
23. As long as you are reasonably competent you are ready to join a band. I`ve been getting away with it for years If you are going to audition for a covers band, get the set list well before hand and practice it. Usually an audition is 6 songs or something like that. Be confident, be pleasant, know the material and more importantly, enjoy yourself. Don`t worry about making mistakes, we all do it. And Marvin, I don`t know how to play All right now either!! Never benn asked to play it in any band. Thought I was the only one. Jez
24. Doc, do you mean to tell me you can`t repair this???? Damm, that`s that idea buggered! There`s plenty of life left in the frets, surely someone could use them? Jez
25. Just when I thought I had seen everything, this comes up for sale! http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/broken-bass-neck/100519613 Jez
