1. I am very limited technically but I can play in time and hit the right notes (most of the time anyway ). I don`t really care if I can`t paly as well as someone else, I can get by. I enjoy myself, the guys I play with think I`m ok and at the end of the day that`s what matters. Oh and I can`t slap and frankly couldn`t care less. Jez
2. I bought a Mex Jazz bass from E bay a couple of years ago, played it for a while and then sold it onto Donnboy before he was a member of this fine forum. About a year later I put a Tbird pro up for sale and Donny got in touch and wanted to buy it. Rather than a cash deal he asked if I wanted the Jazz back and so we agreed the swap. He came down and we exchanged them, so I had my old Jazz back. 24 hours later Donny is back on the blower asking if he could get the Jazz back and he would give me the 250 I was looking for the Tbird originally. No problem as he loved it more than I did. So all in I owned the Jazz for 48 hours after getting it back. Is this a record or can you do better? Jez
3. Just did a trade with Chris, brand new guy, bass was in as good a nick as he stated on ad, good communication and sent his bass to me first as I didn`t have a box. Ta! Jez I would like to add that when Chris got the bass, there was an earthing problem or similar, causing feedback. Chris has been a great help in trying to resolve the issue and his help and patience is greatly appreciated by myself.
4. I recently looked into gettin a P pickup put in place of the neck pickup. It was gonna cost 40 for labour-the routing and wiring, 40 ish for a custom scratchplate and around 50 for a pickup. In the end up I swapped the Jazz for a P on here. Why not make a Berry Oakley Tractor bass? Now that would be something! 5. £250 sounds like an alright price. There are a couple on gumtree local to me and they are asking 350 ish although these are the, "more fantastic blinged up can you tell the differance" newish models. Jez
6. Don`t know what it is but that`s a MM style bridge. I don`t think that is an original part Is Bassassin still on the missing list? He might know. Just checked, not seen since May 2011. Hope he is ok. Jez
7. I think that we are missing something here. All credit to you Jumanji. I think that this is one of the very few times when someone joins the site and asks for advice about BUYING something rather than joining and trying to sell something, then heading for the hills never to be seen again! Jez
8.
Man, I can't begin to describe the relief
No underpants for your supper tonight boy. Straight off to bed! Jez
9. I had a audition with a function band a few weeks ago and they weren`t very good. They played everything at 200 miles an hour. I asked them how many songs in the set. I told them they would need about 60 as they played so bloomin fast. It kind of went down hill from there. After 45mins I said I was off, thats when they told me they had someone coming down after me. They e mailed me the next day saying they had chosen the other player, I was a good player blah blah. Thank god for that I thought. Four days later I get another e mail asking if I still wanted to join as the other guy, an ex pro apparently, had decide that he wasn`t ready to join another band. More than likley, came to the same conclusion as me: they are crap. No I didn`t join. Jez
10.
I'll eat my own underpants if that sells for less than £350
Y fornts or boxers? Jez
11. Nah that`s unusual. If it`s a covers band, they should give you a list of songs that they are competent at and ask you to learn them as best you can. In the future it`s always wise to ask if they are in the original keys as some singers can`t hit some of the notes and may have changed the key. It`s good that you liked the guys as this can be as important as the music. Remember also, you are auditioning them as much as they are auditioning you. Jez
12. I used a MAG300 1X15 combo for about 3 years playing quite largish pubs and it was always loud enough. Does your band play at loud volumes? If you are standing right in front of your rig, try going out into the pub a bit as it is always louder out front than close up. If you plug in a 15inch 8 ohms extension speaker, this should give you the full 300w and the 15 should add some bottom end to your sound. And what do you mean you can`t afford a "proper rig"? You`ve got one Don`t worry about the Ashdown haters on here, they are only jealous Jez
13. Why isn`t there a "bit of a talentless chancer who has mananged to bluff his way through it and has got away with it" option? That would fit me down to the ground! Jez
14. Last year whilst rehersing regularly at Berkley in Glasgow, Steve the owner called me and asked if our drummer had taken away the clutch from the kit whilst packing his gear away. Called the drummer who checked and it turned out he had. Called back Steve who was just grateful he had it, promised to bring it back in the next time, job done. I think it`s like most things in life, it`s how you speak to people. This guy sounds like a total noob and if you have other good options, I would go elsewhere. Sod getting accused of being a theif. Jez
15. The wilkinson bridge is a good piece of kit. I have one on my Squier MD and it looks the biz. http://www.axesrus.com/axeBassh.htm 14 quid posted. Jez
16. Hello there, welcome aboard! I play every day even if it`s just a 10min knockout. I usually play along with the music on the computer either learning a song that I`m gonna play or just working something out for the heck of it. I have joined a new band and we are "gettin it together in the studio" as they say, so I`m learning a new set at the mo, so plenty to keep me busy. It`s good that you are taking lessons and a Thumb is a good starter instrument Jez
17. What kind of idiot buys a bass that looks as sh*t as these? I like the Roadworn relics but there is a limit ya know. Words from his advert: So if you want a cool vintage bass that looks and sounds fantastic but have not got thousands to spare this could be for you. It should read: If you are a muppet with no taste, who doesn`t realise that I am rippin you off if you buy this piece of crap then this could be for you! Look at my feeback! Jez
18. That is quite simply stunning. Jez
19. I ordered a set of strings from Status the other day and got an e mail reply from Dawn apologising for the delay in getting back to me. They are up to their eyes in it the now due getting ready for the bass show. Still got the strings the next day though. I have only found this isssue with long scale strings on Fender basses and it hasn`t caused a problem but I know what you are getting at regarding the small diamater of Ibanez tuners. I don`t suppose you have had this problem before with other manufacturers of strings? +1 apa regarding the lengh of the string. I have had to buy a set of long scale Status half rounds to put on my Mike Dirnt as medium scale strings weren`t long enough due to the badass bridge. Jez
20. Hey 1 shot. Stick around over here. We are much nicer folk (well most of us). The bass is something else and sod all that Karma nonsense! Jez
21. Might be better sending Precision a pm. If you move your mouse over his name, a box appears and click on send message and he should get back to you. But I would imagine that it`s long gone! You could always put a posting in the wanted section of the marketplace. Jez
22. And Stingray`s. There seems to be a glut of really nice rays for sale on here just now. Thank god I don`t like them much. Jez
23.
I've been trying to figure out what a GISON is all day!
Well seein you work in a bloomin school! Yeah dlloyd that looks like the one. Ta. Jez
24. I`m right in thinking the Tokai is a set/neck through? I did the same mod to my Epi T bird Pro and I just drilled a hole right in the mid point of the neck where it met the body and it did the job. I would recomend you use a schaller straplock or something similar to secure the strap. I don`t have any photo`s as I sold it as I couldn`t get on with the shape. If it`s a bolt on, just take out one of the bolts and put the strap button on with a longer screw. Easy peasy! Jez
