1. It was Tom1946 who was selling it on here. You could pm him. Jez
2. According to the old faithfull Fender bass book their 5 string came into being in 65 but it was a high C instead of a low B and had only 15 frets. It never caught on. Don`t know if it was the first 5er though. Jez
3.
Cheers for the heads up on squier I just found this http://www.soundsliv...ck~ID~15697.asp . Seems they do a mustang copy but a black body and pickguard with a maple neck is a bit fugly. I had my heart set on rosewood but i'm sure it would be alright after a new pickguard and a bit of modding
Black body and maple neck is ugly????? We`ll have none of this talk around these parts!!! I think that these look rather nice in black but they also come in sunburst and maple neck. Jez
4. I had a Westone that I bought for 50 quid and the P style pickup was one of the hottest I have ever heard. But I couldn`t keep it as it was far too ugly and heavy! I should have took the pickup out of it before I punted it though. Jez
5. I think the problem is that the screw holes don`t match up on some of the non original fender types and on some fender ones as well. I have bought a cheapish one before and the shape was slightly different. Regarding the truss rod adjustment, a few mins with a small bevel edged file will sort that out. Jez
6. I got some cash and don`t really need anything so, after watching that fantastic Bowie on totp I think I`m going to go down and buy a very expensive curly lead. Just to get a bit retro. Jez
7. Why not go for the Status half wounds? They are rounds that have been smoothed to make them between a flat and a round. They are great strings for the price. Their flats are excellent value as well. But strings are such a personal thing you would need to get a set and find out for yourself. Jez HHalf-wound strings start off as regular round-wound then have the outer edges of the round wrap ground down slightly. This produces a string with a smooth feel and a tone somewhere between a round-wound and flat-wound string. Ideal for a warmer tone and fretless basses to preserve the fingerboard finish.alf-wound strings start off as regular round-wound then have the outer edges of the round wrap ground down slightly. 8. Great clip and well done that man for finding it. T B gets a fantastic sound from that EB but I tried to clock the amp head. Was it a Marshall guitar head or did the bass heads look the same as the guitar heads? Very dodgy wig/sidebreezers combo though. Jez
9. Some damm fine playing going on there Higgie. Checked out Rhythm stick. I wouldn`t know where to even start playing that! Anyone fancy taking up the drums? Jez
10.
makes sense, they were put in when it was fairly new, or so I was told. I'm torn between trying to find oe pups, or fitting a badass bridge and decent preamp and pickups. It's lovely to play but it's getting tired.
Can you here that sound? It`s the sound of money dissapearing if you fit a BA and pre amp. Either that or it`s the sound of a vinatge Fender lover jammin his love spuds in the door! I think it`s looks perfect but that`s just me,. Jez
11.
Much spookiness , there is a thread near the bottom of this page http://www.ebay.co.u...984.m1423.l2649
Aye just seen that thread. In that auction he "sold" it for 400 now he puts it back up for 495!! He`s got more front than one of Boris`s new Routemaster buses! As youz say, he appears to be a dealer with good feedback. Makes ya wonder. I`m glad I don`t have a e bay account anymore. Jez
12. Apparently the headstock is 70`s style but he can`t confirm this. That may be the case but everything else screams P bass copy with fake decal on it. You would think that they would come up with something original other than in the loft. Been kept in the cat mabye? 13. BBOT - Bent bit of tin. Had one of these yonks ago, perfect for use as is or, even better for modding. Jez
14. To the OP. Yes there will be a place for Real musicians (whatever that means ). People will always want to hear music played by real musos rather than a singer with midi files. A decent player will always get work. In the late 70`s and 80`s everyone thought that the synth would kill off the demand for musicians, just like in the 60`s the likes of radio 1 could only have so many records played in an hour as the MU though that their members would lose a lot of work if the radio played only records. If you want go to do a uni course, go for it as anything that makes you feel more confident and makes you a better player can only do you good. Why not pm some of the pro working musos on here and ask them for advice, I`m sure that they will be happy to help. Jez
15. Just got the dvd. I thought Time stand still was really good as I haven`t played the track in ages but I was really dissapointed with Geddy`s singing. He just can`t seem to hit the high stuff anymore. No more Rush dvd`s for me I`m afraid. At least I didn`t pay 60+ quid to see them live. I`m away back to watch some of the earlier stuff. Jez
16. I take 2 basses into the rehersal studio never mind a gig! Although I have never broken a string or had a bass fail on me at a gig, for me, the thought of not having a back up is too scary too think about. I always have a sans amp with me and lots of spares for most eventualities. Mabye it`s the old boy scout in me. Dib Dib and wiggle wiggle!! Jez
17. Don`t take this the wrong way but if you liked the Geddy so much why not try one of those? Be sure you want a T bird as they sit totally different on your body to any other bass I have had. To me, the end of the neck seemed very far away. I have had 3, 2 epi`s and a pro and although they sounded fine, I found that I couldn`t get used to the shape. I`m not running the bass down, just not right for me. Jez
18. No wonder some guys in guitar shops get a bad name. May I recomend Status flats. Great strings and very good value as well. Just go to the online shop bit and the strings are in there. http://www.status-gr...index_home.html Jez
19. It seems to fit the Jazz belonging to the guy in your pic Geofio, it will fit no prob! I believe his is a 72? Although his may have the 60`s spacing? I have fitted a BA to a Classic 60`s Jazz, it cost me about 70 quid and after puting it through the amp cranked up, it made no differance to my ears. But we have had this argument many times before on here: Baddass v BBOT. Jez
20. Gotta agree, top bass player and a top band. Try and hear "gudbye t`Jane" and "one eyed jacks with moustaches" from Alive. Very unusual for a mega popular band to be so kick a*s. Jez
21. That`s shocking that is, no straplocks on Sid`s bass! Does anyone know where this bass ended up? Jez
22.
And probably a 1 in 5 chance of getting a good Precision around that time too......... (runs for cover)
This can`t be right as EVERY 70`s P bass that pops up for sale sounds fantastic and is quite light as well Jez
23. If you ain`t enjoying it, don`t do it. I was that man and walked recently. If you can get the most suited guys from the 2 bands and form it into 1 decent band that you can live with, fandabidozy!! Either that or you and I form a 2 man bass playing super group! Jez
24. I recently left the band I started 4 years ago as the singer was behaving like an ar*e and constantlly moaning about everything. So I buggered in the direction of off. Then the guitarist had the cheek to send me a text saying how they were dissapointed that I had left along with the pa cables and mikes that I had paid for myself. That was after I told them that they could keep the mixer and the speakers that I had a third share in. Some people. I think that most bands need a social worker attached to them. Jez
25. They do take a bit longer on delivery sometimes but they are great strings and seriously good value for money. Jez
