Thanks for posting the pics Keir. Just reminded me how good looking the sunburst ray was. After using it for a few gigs, I found that it was too heavy too play for 2.5 hours at a time. It was doing my shoulder in but it was one of the best looking ray`s I have seen. I sold it to an actor/semi pro guy called Craig from Knightswood who was well happy with it. And that white 60`s Jazz was a cracker too! But I am back firmly in the G& L family now and fully intend to stay there. Jez

The biggest give away is defo the logo. You would think that if you were gonna fake it, you would at least buy a decent fake logo. It`s not as if there aren`t a few kicking about. Also wrong: the tuners, string tree, vol and tone knobs. It looks not too bad a bass, if he sold it as what it is, a bass worth about £60 it could be a good buy. Or, it might be a pile of kack. Jez

I haven`t really heard much of their stuff apart from a couple of singles. I take it from the comments here, I wouldn`t be wasting my cash getting a best of? Jez

Looking at the green woodstain, I wonder if it ever belonged to Francis Rossi? What does he mean by the term "proper spacing"? I think that soemone bought it to rip out the pickups and use the body for firewood. Jez

One of my neighbours bought an accoustic from SR for £45 and came up and asked me to tune it for him as he didn`t have a tuner. Did the biz, and it stayed in tune for oohh 30 seconds. He has never played before and he asked me what I thought of his new purchase. I gave him my honest opinion, it`s kack, haven`t seen him since!! £45? I`ve spent more than that on a strap! So, no jam nights in my close! Having said that, the bass may be dinky doo! Jez

I think £500 is a bit low as Far East guitars usually sell them for around £650. Having said that, he is a business seller but as you say yours is mint Tom and I haven`t seen many sunburst one`s about, I would say about the £600 mark. Anyway, where`s the piccy or do we need to wait for the sale thread? Jez

I had a Affinity P bass for a while as a back up and it was a good piece of kit. Defo an alder body as above and had I kept it and spent a few quid on upgrdes, I would have used it as a gigging bass. For £70 you can`t go wrong. They will not be Jap, more than likley Indonesia but does it really matter where a bass is made these days? And look at it this way, if you don`t like it you can sell it and get your money back. Jez

Is it just the way the photo looks or does that neck look "mandolin size"? I`m telling ya, a Fender transfer on the end and you would not know the differance. Better buy one quick as he only has more than 10 available. Jez

Aye Steven, I seen it and had a chuckle. It will play any large venue until it heats up and goes up in a puff of smoke!! And you haven`t got a back up!! Funny, but he doesn`t mention that in the ad. Jez

That is one ugly bass! A Jazz body without a pickup in the bridge postion? It`s just not right. And who is gonna play the Dog and Duck with a pink bass? Not me girls! Jez

If you put gold tuners on it, the next thing you know you`ll be wearing a camel hair coat and saying "Rodney, you plonker"! Or mabye not. Jez

Thanks for the info regarding the Ronseal GW. Did you give it several coats? Re the "upset" comment. A while ago I posted a pic of my VMJ with a rather nice Fender logo and someone mentioned that you shouldn`t replce the transfer as you might be trying to rip someone off by passing it off as a Fender. Some people have too much times on their hands Jez

That`s really tasty GW. Like the Fender decal, gauranteed to upset a few people on here What was the varnish/stain that you used on the headstock and how did you get it looking so good? I`ve a G&L and the only thing that I don`t like about it is the pale matt finish headstock so any advice would be appreciated. Jez

Here`s the easy answer to the question. They do sound different but the main point is what one do YOU prefer. Go to the guitar shop, play a Jazz, a P, a MM etc and buy the one that suits you best regarding sound, weight, cost, look........ Easy peasy! Jez

So let`s get this right. Most of you like it apart from the Jazz neck, the Jazz pup, the colour, the badass, the price and the scratchplate. But apart from that, we love it! Another BC winner!! Jez

How many more times am I going to say on here that G&Ls DO NOT do Musicman. It's impossible - the pups are wrong and the eq is just "hell no". Could not have agreed with you more. There is lots of posts on Talkbass along this line. If you want a stingray sound, guess what? buy a Stingray. Easy peasy. Having owned both, I prefer the G&L but that`s just my opinion. And I agree with you McNach, the natural finish is really tasty. Jez

Price hikes? Your damm tootin!! £500 for a Mexican P bass in Guitarguitar? I remember not so long ago, they were about £360. Or was I imagining it? Rip off ba*tar*s all of em!! Manufacturers, distributurs, the shop`s and the goverment. Jez

Don`t know what the differance in the type of strings are but I use Status flatwounds and they are great strings. I have bought their Premnium roundwound in the past and they were good as well. Good all round and not too expensive. Jez

It always amazed me that Jack Bruce played upright bass as where he came from in Glasgow, a reservation called Pollock, is like Beruit without the good weather.
