1. Get a luthier to do it as you need the correct files to do it. Tried a diy approach before and take my word for it, if you don`t know what you are doing and haven`t got the right tools, it will end in tears. It doesn`t cost that much too get it done by a pro. It will be cash well spent. Jez
2. Played a pub in Motherwell last night. We hadn`t played a gig for a month or so due to holidays so we were a bit rusty. Busy enough boozer but the crowd were a bit flat, not much of a reaction. Played old stuff, new stuff made no differance. We play a pub round the corner on aregular basis and we always go down a storm and it`s always full of nice ladies!! Highlight of the night was when we were breaking the gear down and a guy chinned us for not playing In the city, his favourite. We had played it at the end of the first set and he was sitting in front of us at the time! Sort of summed up the gig. Jez
3. If he`s reading this thread, can you tell me why you weren`t playing with Roxy Music on Johnathan Ross`s last show? It was the guy who plays with Robbie Williams (cue someone who knows his name) who is a great player but the only reason I watched the bloomin show was to watch Guy on bass! Is he playing with Roxy in January when they are on tour? Jez
4. Is it the final nail in MIM coffin? Who knows. All I know is that the VMJ is a great value for money bass. I have had quite a few £600+ basses pass through my grubby mits recently and while they were great, I like playing the VMJ more. It has been upgraded with a Gotoh bridge, Wilkinson vintage style tuners, Fender 70`s logo and black Jazz knobs (ooeeerr). And lets not forget the Halfords £5 satin black paint job! As you can see, the pole pieces dont line up 100% but neither did the ones on my MIM 70`s Jazz. Downsides, it`s a bit of a heavy bugger. I might replace the pups one day but the stock ones are fine and I love the neck on it. Cost of upgrades £75. Jez
5.
What is it with all the swapping instruments all the time. And why do people pay the best part of a grand for a bass with a fancy label that doesn't even play properly. I think I inhabit a different planet sometimes
Please tell me your secret!!! I need to get on your planet quick before GAS arrives again!!!! Jez
6. An Epiphone EB3. Looked the business but sounded mince, had horrendus neck dive and cheap and nasty hardware. Sold it to a guy who wanted to be like Jack Bruce. He was on drugs for sure....(the guy not Jack!). Jez
7.
AIUI, Akkerman had a smack habit and that was part of what led to the split and being replaced by Philip Catherine. Hamburger Concerto was the last good Van Leer/Akkerman album, Mother Focus rather lost its way.
You can`t say that about Mother Focus!! What about the classic track "I need a bathroom?" Jez
8. C`mon noo, someone must want this classic player. :brow: Jez
9.
Jan Akkerman left Focus a long time ago, I believe it's just Thijs van leer + A N Others these days. Jan Akkerman does an annual solo tour, he's played The Robin in Bilston (EXC venue! I go there a lot!) and The Ferry in Glasgow a few times.
Hey there Big Stu!! Akkerman left in 76 on the eve of a British tour as he couldn`t get along with Van Leer. He was replaced by a guy called Phillip Catrine (pretty sure that was his name) who was quite a decent player. The people who bought tickets for the tour were offered their money back when Akkerman left. I went and seen Akkerman at the Ferry about 2002 and a guitarist friend who was with me was so impressed by his playing that he was nearly suicidal that he would never be that good. Strange man.... Focus are still kicking about and are still a good band . Jez
10. Had this in the freebie section a while ago but had no takers. Mabye people don`t read that bit. It`s quite old but in its day was the biz! It has the remote control with it and works perfectly. I would rather someone on here had it rather than sticking it on gumtree, so if you want to come and collect it, drop me a pm and you can have it!! Jez
11.
It sounded divine.
Aye, Sidney Devine!! All together now, Tiny bubbles, in the wine,........ Jez
12. The Jag bass is on the Soundslive website at £259. http://www.soundslive.co.uk/product~name~S...ar~ID~13833.asp Jez
13. The above is all true! I picked up one of these s/hand last weekend and after a set of flats and a wee tweak, I am well impressed. The amount of sounds you can get from the pickups and 3 position switch is really good. Honestly, this bass punches well above it`s price. Jez
14.
MB1. Swap Shop?... ...You Dont Look Like Noel Edmonds?. BUMP!
Oh I dunno about that. Jez
15. Why???? Do most of us on this site ask ourselves why do we need another bass? No!! You need another one because that`s just the type of wild, crazy dudes we are!!! Go and get it bought and to hell with what the wife says. Are you a man or a mouse? (Cheese anyone?) Jez
16. Just did a deal with lawrie and he`s a top bloke to deal with. He gave me the price I was looking for and the deal went as smooth as a baby buttock! Jez
17. Gotta add that the staff are always nice people to deal with and up for a chat! And they always have a good selection and some intresting gear as well. Jez
18.
If it's from Dolphin it may be a bit fishy.......
I think that your swiming against the tide there. Jez
19. What numpty paid 385 quid for that! Goes to show, there`s always a sucker about. Like the bit about not knowing where the volume and tone knobs were. Lemmy`s got them in his back pocket I imagine. You can ask the next time you are having a chat with him. Jez
20. I, like Clarky, have a love of T birds due to Lord Pete of the Way. I have owned 3- 2 Epi bolt on and 1 Epi pro. They are one of the coolest looking basses on the planet but you need a left arm 4 foot long to play an F on the E string or the body down at your knees and the neck around your left shoulder. This is the reason that me and Tbirds just don`t get along. Jez
21. Remember folks, if you don`t have the full dosh, you can part exchange your G&L , Ibanez or Yamaha basses, anything really. Try me. Jez
22.
Update on this guys, meeting up with Bassassin this weekend, had good offers from a few of you(and appreciate it)but Assassins minutes down the road saving posting etc...plus his Ibanez is the same colour as my bike lol (Yam R1)
Ah Bassassin you old desert fox! Using the old "the bass matches the colour of your motorbike" ruse. No wonder we beat Jerry in 45. Jez
23. That will sound better than some of the crap basses I have owned. Jez
24.
Finally tracked down the image: http://www.bassemporium.com/item.php?sku=0131810340
Well done Detective Inspector Bartelby. Go get some do`nuts. Jez
25. Thanks for the offer but it ain`t what I`m looking for. To tell the truth, I had to google it as I have`nt heard of it. Jez
