1. I`ve got two. Asdown mag 300 combo but I took the saw to it and put the head in a homemade rack unit and used the 1x 15 and bought a Ashdown 2 x 10 cab to go with it. I got pissed off carting it about, sold the 2 x 10 and now this is used as a spare. Main gig rig is a Eden Nemesis rs 2x10 combo and lovely it is too. 320watts, built like a bricksh*t house yet only weighs 20kg. And has a lovely blue light to the control panel. I also carry a Sansamp Bass Driver with me at all times in case the amp goes down. Jez
2. Starting to look cool. That Gotoh bridge is nice, I had one before and I think I payed around £25 for it. Half the price of a baddass and just as good. What pickups are you looking at getting? I`ve got a Mexican 70`s re-issue and am thinking of changing the pickups so any info would be appreciated. Jez
3. The guitarist from Glasgow band Logan works in guitarguitar and a top bloke he is too. Was chatting to him a few weeks ago and said that whilst they weren`t making a shed load of bucks, they had supported Bent Jobys (sorry, Bon Jovi) at Hampden and went round the world a bit. Doesn`t sound too bad to me but we all need dosh to live. Jez
4. Beautiful bass and a steal at that price! If only you weren`t so far away, I`d be on it like a shot. Jez
5. Got to agree...Tomsk could really lay down the bottom end. But the next burning question is: who played bass in the banana splits? And was he/she/it any good? Jez
6. The best bet is to go out and buy the snakes and arrows dvd set. Rush are one of those rare bands who sound better now than they did back in their so called classic days. Check out you tube as well for Geddys winter sports tips, a classic. 7. Anything from the A farewell to kings album for the 70`s stuff, The Moving pictures album for the 80`s and Roll the bones album from the 90`s. There isn`t really a bad album but I am biased as I luv rush!! Jez
8.
And about 15 years too late?
Re Zender Warwick. It wasn`t so long ago he thought the sun shined out of his Gibson les paul bass. And yes, it is overpriced and damm ugly, imo. Jez
9. Blob dude I feel your pain. But dont get yourself down. You may be a second rate bass player but you can play a five string. I`m a second rate bass player who plays a four string and I only use three of em! Mabye we should start a support group. Jez
10.
Can you read over your side of the country ?
Yes we can and we can smell, I mean spell, as well. We even get colour tv! Re lots of copies of last months mag in shop: I`m not knocking the mag as I buy it every month, there just seemed to be a lot of copies left in the shop. Jez
11. I was in Glasgow city centre on monday and in WH Smith`s there was 21 copies of last months BGM and in Breahead (a major shopping venue in the West) there was 13 copies. Don`t think it`s selling too well over this side of the country. Jez
12. Oh no!! Serious P bass gas attack on the starboard bow! Gorgeous, all of em. And like a pillock I got rid of a 09 black/maple P earlier this year. Jez
13.
"Neither a borrower nor a lender be; For loan oft loses both itself and friend, And borrowing dulls the edge of husbandry. Shakespeare on loaning out gear.
It`s bloomin amazing what you can learn on this site. What band was he in? Jez
14. Agree with you on Rod the Mod, Maggie May, but didn`t Ronnie Wood play bass on Rod`s early solo stuff when he was still in the Faces? But agree with you, Ronnie Lane had great feel. Try and find a live version of the faces song "3 button hand me down". It was on a TOPTP2 special. Just found a link, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WeZ4FMIVqto Jez
15. I never forget any pice of any song..... Time to wake up and get back to reality!!! For a long time, for the life of me, I kept forgeting how to play "she loves you ", even after putting the chords in front of me! I think it was a nervous thing and I can play it fine now. If I do ba*ls it up, I kid on that I am adjusting the pa or do the same the next time around and say I was trying something out. Jez
16. Very nice. I like the black headstock with the white writing. If I didn`t have the real thing I would definatley be looking at one of these. Glad to hear that the quality is on a par with the overpriced Lakland`s. If EB can do these for £600 why can`t Lakland. Jez
17. Self plus stupid looking drummer at gig last saturday. Got me new Fender 70`s Jazz and Eden rs210. Sweet! Jez
18. Thats a new one that is, a drummer with no kit? Have to hire one for a gig? Not being on time is not on, it shows a lack of disrespect for the rest of the band, the venue and the fans. You seem to be doing all the hard work. As mentioned, nick any of the band you think are worth going on with and start your own thing. Jez
19. Had a Jag, the active circut ain`t very good. The bass control was either on or off. and why have a switches that can turn both pickups off? Done that accidently at a gig! The Stingray is a much better bet, the 3 band eq really cuts through the mix. Looks damm cool as well. You should be able to get a secondhand Ray for the price of a new Jag. I have nothing against Fenders but the Stingray just seems like a better bass all round. The only gripe I have is as I have been playing fingerstyle on Fenders for a while, I couldn`t get used to resting my thumb on the pickup when it is mounted so close to the bridge, so, I got a Ebony thumbrest and stuck it on nearer the neck and that solved the problem. G&L`s are great basses as well and the one for sale on here, blue in colour, is a cracker. Jez
20. Good to see a happy ending. Now, I`m off down the pub to celebrate! Jez
21. If you buy something on line you have 7 days to return it under the selling at distance (or something like that) rule. Basically, if you return it as new they have to give you your money back. Dont know about over the phone but I imagine that it would be the same deal if you cant see the item you are ordering. Also watch some ads as they may say "item may be on display" which could mean that every spotty 13 year old death metal numpty could have had their hands on it. Jez
22. That`s a lousy thing to do. The guy sounds like a right romancer. If I see him when I`m oot and aboot he will be getting some verbals thrown in his direction. I hope that you can get it resolved soon. Jez
23. I`ve had an MAG 300 combo for around 6 years now, one of the British one`s. I have bought a Eden Nemesis RS210 which I`m collecting later today but the only reason is I want to try something different and heard a Nemesis 200 watt and was well impresed. The Ashdown has never let me down and it has been thrown about and abused on a regular basis. Hopefully the Eden will be dinky doo but I will still keep the Ashdown as a backup. Jez
24. Owen Wilson and the other guy? More like a Mills and Boon story, lol. Time for a group hug. Lovely bass, olympic white, definatley flavour of the month. Jez
25. Geddy Lee- Can sing, play the bass and operate keyboards via footpedals all at the same time! And plays a bass that cost him $200. Steve Harris- Fantastic player and writer. Pino Plladino-Superb on The strat pack dvd. Pete Way of UFO-Love the guys style and attitude to playing the bass. John McVie, Andy Rouke, Geezer Butler, the late Jimmy Dewar ex Robin Trower, Roger Glover, Bob Daisley, Ronnie Lane, John Rhino Edwards of Quo, Jim Lea of Slade................ Jez
