Jimmy Egypt has always had a good name as do the girls at Strung Out. They looked at my mate`s Les Paul for nothing, told him what it needed done and quoted him a good price. Steve, strung out guitars are in the Saltmarket/Paddys Market/Trongate side of town. Here is a link: http://www.strungoutguitars.com/ From a nearly Weegie. Jez

Munkman! Dont put a baddass on it. Not worth the money (ducks for cover from all the baddass lovers). I wouldn`t even change the pickups as you seem quite happy with the sound and if you go to sell it, you wont get your money back for the price of the pickups. If you feel it would benefit from a set up, get one done! It won`t do it any harm. I think 7string on here does em (correct me if I`m wrong!) and seems to do a good job, so why don`t you pm him? Buy some s/hand pedals and mess about with them for a bit of variety. Jez

After cutting back on the number of basses I am left with 3, all P basses. Time to move one on. This US model I got from guitarguitar secondhand although it`s near mint. The guy who bought it new was a guitar player who fancied a bass so bought himself this one for £989 to "try one out". He lost intrest rapid and traded it for another guitar. That`s when I bought it. I had it up for sale locally but I would need another decent bass to replace it, so will try going down this route. You all know the score with these and this one is a really nice sunburst and is very light (please dont ask me to weigh it as I don`t have any scales). It comes with the SBK case but the strap/tools that come in the case weren`t there when I bought it. It has a changed scratchplate and a small dent on the bottom edge that cannot be seen when holding it normally and a very light pressure mark on the back of the bass. None of these marks have removed the paint. Other than that, its as new. I will be pinching the straplocks off the bass. I am looking for a trade for something 4 stringy, although not another P bass:not sure what and would prefer to do the trade within a reasonable driving distance of Paisley, which is just outside Glasgow. (What is reasonable? Try me). Cheers for looking, Jez

Cant see it paying. The guy that owns CC Music in Glasgow (cant remember his name) sells 10 guitars (cue some Engelbert) to each bass he sells. Also, you`ve got guitarguitar and Merchant city who have decent stock and prices. Of course I could be wrong, mabye people don`t like the above mentioned shops. Jez

I know it`s quite a specialist magazine but I do think that it`s a bit Kate Moss: bloomin thin. Jez

The man`s a genius. If you can get a hold of a dvd called the Strat Pack get it, he plays in the house band and his playing is superb. He was in one of Jools Holland`s first bands for a while and whilst his playing was amazing, Jools was glad he left as he was costing him a fortune in food! You can keep your Jaco, Wooten, Miller and all that. He`s the man! Jez

Ooops! Didn`t read the original post right, alcohol was involved your honour! Get a decent amp, sod the 2nd bass for now. (I know this has already been said, I`m just backtracking). Jez

No question. Gotta have a spare, even a cheapo, won`t get too upset if something happens too it bass. I always take my least favourite to the gig and leave it in the bag as you never know what might happen...... We`re all doomed!! Jez

Don`t you just love the ads that say something along these lines: Bass player wanted for sh*t hot new band. We are aming for a totally new direction, which sounds like nothing else out there and has never been done before. Must be commited as we are heading for the big time! Recreational drugs must be involved.... I went for a play with a bunch of guys a few years ago and when I asked about a pa, they said that all pubs and clubs had a pa, so they would not need one! Oh Yeah! Exit stage left! Jez

Playing in a pub with a loud drummer? Get as BIG AN AMP AS YOU CAN AFFORD!!!! Even if it just to pi*s off the guitarsit and vocalist, it`s worth it! For a few years I used an ashdown mag 300 with the 15" speaker. It was loud enough for any where I have played and you can be heard over a loud drummer. But opinions on bass amps on here are like ars*h*les-everybodys got one! Including me. Jez

Mexican 70`s reissue Jazz, as new condition, one slight mark barley visable on edge next to bridge. Comes with mighty mite scratchplate, bridge cover (this isnt fitted but will be supplied with screws) and Gotoh black chrome bridge. I will include the white scratchplate and original bridge. It also has the Fender gig bag it came with. Fitted with a new set of Rotosounds. The only reason for selling is I bought another P bass and somethings gotta go. The only slight issue is that the E and A strings are slightly out of line with the polepieces. I never noticed it when I got it and reading some reviews on this bass it aint the only one. Good old Fender QC! It is for collection only. The bass cost me £520 and the extras were £70 so I think that £350 is a fair price. Any questions call or text me on 07846-040-624. Cheers Jez

You Know,.. all these bass chatters dissing the 80s,and all those bands that I liked.... well yes, maybe you're right ( &in some ways you are ) they are "irrelivant" now especially to 'some of you younger guys.... but.... 'know what you can all Fu#k off!! level 42,hue and cry, duruitti column, dire straits ,scritti pollitti, eurthmics, bauhaus, stone roses, late police, gowest ,spandau, kagagoogoo, ellisbeggshoward, human league,OMD,late genisis, swing out sister, blow monkeys, lloyd cole and the commotions, the smiths, frankie, tears for fears, king,Fictionfactory,haircut100,Paul young and the royal family......oh GOD too many too mention.. 80s werent crap...(TRUE) Younger guys? I`m 43 and lived through the 80`s music scene. I play in a covers band, we do alright and are quite busy and no one has ever asked us for Paul Young, Eurythnics, Human league, Haircut 100, etc. I was a heavy rocker in the 80`s (still am I suppose) but I do admit to wearing a skinny gray leather tie on one occasion to impress my missus. It matched my gray oxford tie shoes. But only the once! Jez

The 80`s were THE worst time for music. Depeche mode, Spandau ballet, Paul young, Howard jones, etc... I rest my case. Jez

When I started playing bass, I bought a Squire P bass special and payed, wait for it, £230 and that was around 9 years ago! Didnt buy much for the first few years, so went about 3 or 4 years with the Squire, then another 1 or 2 over the next few years and after a while joined this site....... Bought umpteen basses this year and the latest escapade is scary. I haven`t been working for the last few weeks and even sold my Stingray. So I am basically skint. Today I recieved a wee cheque from the inland revenue (I know, they will want it back soon), went down to guitarguitar to buy a new stand. Do you know what`s coming... Ended up buying a s/h, as new US 08 P bass. GAS strikes again!!!! Jez
