1. Definatley a bad scene although to be fair to the drummer, I wouldn`t be too happy lending out expensive gear unless I knew the person well. Having said that, a guitarist I know left his band because the drummer bought an MX5 sports car and gave his kit to the other band members to take to gigs. If I were you I would start looking for another band as they seem to be taking the p**s. A few years ago I was asked to join a band who were forming. When I asked about a pa they said that they had "done lots of gigs before and pubs have their own pa, so we dont need one". That`s a good one I thought to myself. Me-Exit satge left! Jez
2. And behold, people with more sense did come along....Now Steve get your raincaot on and buy the cab. Jez
3. Monkman Cant answer your question but get across here and buy the cab before I change me mind about selling, LOL. It`s a bloomin bargin! Looking at the spec page I think that the 2x10 cab would allow your amp to work to it`s full potential. And yep that`s an external speaker output. But dont take my word for it, wait until somone with more sense comes along..... Jez
4. That looks well tasty and I`m thinking of getting another combo. Any idea when it`s comin oot? Jez
5. Andertons have them in stock. Here`s the link. http://www.andertons.co.uk/BassGuitars/pid...Bass4String.asp Jez
6. Nah buddy, not into posting but cheers anyway. Jez
7. Ashdown deep 2x10 cab, in as new nick, collection only from Paisley just outside Glessga. £90. Link to info page http://www.ashdownmusic.com/bass/detail.as...n=mag&ID=23 Jez
8. I`ve got a program from Canada circa 73 from an Elton John concert. It`s signed "to Margret love Elton". Got it because his one time manager grew up beside my mothers family. When old Elton hairpiece pops his clogs, e bay here it comes. Jez
9. Gotta agree with Clarky and others. Strangers in the night, brill album from one of the most underatted and out of it bands to have come from these shores. If you want the ultimate live album, try the Grateful dead. They have a series of cd`s called Dicks Picks which were taken from the desk usually. Take Dicks Picks 24. For the 1st song it has only bass, drums and vocals until eventually the sound guys get it right and you hear the full band. What you get is the songs, warts and all. Part of their charm for me. They were also notorius for forgetting lyrics as well, even when they wrote the songs themselves! Great band but an aquired taste. The gig was a test of The Wall Of Sound Pa. How many transit vans to shift this lot? Jez
10. Regarding the £25 I mentioned, I downloaded it about 3 years ago and I agree £46 does seem a lot. Right, I off to Hull.... Jez
11. Why dont you download a program called Digital Music Mentor. You can download a trial version and then if you like it it costs around £25 if I remember right. It`s 90% right (most times!) and is very helpful. You can also use it on as many computers as you like. And don`t anyone start lecturing me about learning by ear, reading quavers/dots on a line and all that muso stuff. That`s great if you can do it but I prefer the cowboy way. Jez
12.
I only use 3 of the available four strings anyhow. Were it not for neck / tension issues, I'd dispense with the D string altogether. End of.
Thank god for that! I thought I was the only one to use 3 strings, although it`s the G I dont bother with. Jez
13. Easy. Get the drummer to start then once he has sorted out the beat (can take a while) bass and guitar come in together. Simpiles! You can slag the song off all ya like, I don`t even like it myself but the punters love it in the 2nd set when they are all rat@rsed!. It`s the entertainment biz. Jez
14. Schaller straplocks every time, on every bass I use. The thing to do is use the screw supplied with the lock and stuff a couple of cocktail sticks in the hole and there you go , dinky doo! If you are spending £500 on a bass, what`s £12 spent on locks. Jez
15. I dont understand music, I dont understand theory, I dont listen to much music and I do not have any sence of rythem Perfect! We are looking for a new drummer and you have all the qualifications! You need to find some other dudes to play with and inspire you. Stick an ad in your local rag or ad trader and look for someone to start a covers band with. You shouldn`t run down your abilities or lack of. I am the most basic bass player, okay at playing roots etc but as for fancy bass runs, forget it! I play in a covers band that is booked up till the new year and beyond up here in Glesga. So it can be done. Don`t sell all your gear, you will regret it. You need someone to make you want to play again, so get out there and go for it! Jez
16. Went to one in Airdrie a few years ago, me and my drummer mate. It was like a private club full of to**ers who all knew each other playing 12 bar blues for an hour. As we weren`t know, they didn`t really bother with us, so, we legged it and haven`t been to one since. Having said that, I think that this was the crap end of the jam nights and you will find quite a lot of people who enjoy jamming and the people are nice and friendly. If you go to one just bluff it. I get away with it most weekends! Jez
17. We should persecute the credit card. Credit card + large credit limit enables gas. Anyone got the number of Ocean Finance?
18. I too am a fellow sufferer. This year I have bought... Fender US P, Fender MIM Classic Jazz, Fender MIM sunburst Jazz, Ibanez SRX700, SR700, ARTB 100, SR300M, EBM Stingray, Epi Thunderbird, Epi Ebo, Squire Affinity P, Squire Modified P, G&L L2000. The ones in red I still have. The rest I have bought and sold again at a large loss as I am cr*p at selling things. And a rather large credit card bill. It would be justifiable if I was a decent player but I am mediocre multiplied. Help! Jez (Currently residing in ward 3 of the happy hoose)
19. Our drummer tries to overplay sometimes adding double kicks, fills, knocking the cr*p out of the cymbals and genrally adding bits in wher there shouldn`t be bits added! The biggest problem is he`s no very good at it!. The photo below is me and the singer giving him dogs abuse for some of the above. But at the end of the day he`s a top bloke and if he wasn`t there, who could we give dogs abuse to. As for Neil Peart, one word, God! Jez
20. Played the Village Inn in East Kilbride last night and had the place rockin. The cut off time iis 12.30ish so, we are about to start the last song, pretty vacant for a bit of pogoing, and the singer says "Thanks very much. Youve been a great audience. This is the last number tonight from Fused.... No sooner had the words left his lips when everthing went dark. No power. Agghhh! Shouts of "what the fluck". Turned out that there was a power cut. The crowd then broke into Flower of Scotland caused by some miracle, Scotland wining at the football. Some drunk tw*t even grabbed the singer`s mic and tried to sing into it and got a bit peaved when he was told to leg it. The next 15 mins were a case of people fallin into people, us trying to break down the gear with the aid of a mini maglite, people touching things they shouldn`t (ooeerrr missus). All in all a good gig! Jez
21.
Last I heard, gigging and recording with John McCoy while both of 'em endorsing Vintage-brand guitars / basses.
Do you think that the guys in the Vintage ads really use them as their main gigging axe? Not knocking Vintage guitars by the way, just curious. Overheard in dressing room before gig... Bernie Torme: Will I play my 64 strat tonight? Nah! I `ll use this £250 Vintage! Jez
22. Youve made a really good job of the paintwork and all for £20! I can see the sandpaper heading for my old squire bodied P bass as I`ve got one too many sunburst finished basses. Your cat looks as if it`s got "mind control eyes" in that photo. Jez
