It was my Ibby SR700 but having played the stingray bass I got from Dub Junkie on a few gigs it`s now the one. Jez
Get a soldering iron and resolder all the connections that look iffy, if that doesn't work, set fire to it.
Yep. Setting fire to it is definatley the thing to do. Jimi

Ordered a Ebony thumbrest from the guy below on monday, it arrived today (wednesday) and is a really nice part. Time to junk those nasty plastic ones and be good to your bass! http://www.bassguitarthumbrests.com/ Jez

That reminds me of that little know Chinese Jazz/fusion guitarist Wan Lang Solo. Jez

Thanks for all the replies. Intresting. It seems that Ashdown is no more un-reliable than anything else. I think I will get something else, possibly second hand and see if I prefer the sound to the Ashdown. Jez

Question for ya. Do Ashdown sound like sh*t? The reason I ask is, the only decent? amp I have ever owned is a Ashdown mag300. Before that it was all practice amp, small stuff. It`s a few years old and one of the british ones. I took the head out of it and stuck it in a case for ease of transportation. I was in a local shop the other day and heard a guy playing through a Eden ENX260 head and a 6 x 10 Apeg cab and it sounded fantastic! But at 499 it was a bit steep, but on Thoman it`s only 395. Told the guy that I had an Ashdown and he instantly replied Crashdown as they keep breaking down apparently. I keep spending money on guitars but I think that I should spend some cash (not a lot though) on a new head. What about Gk or Hartke? Any tips? Jez

I wish you all the best and hope it works out for you. I would come down and check it out. Just watch those East coast punters though. You know what they say about them..... Jez

Tell you something, I`d rather listen to Flea than all that musical masturbation crap of Jaco (no not Micheal) and guys like that. Personally I liked the "let`s all dress up as a lightbulb period". If any man (or woman: copyright Monty Python) can play bass dressed as a lightbulb, he gets my vote! Jez
I don't think you'll find much of a market for knitted woollen plectra.
Damm!!! Tin Foiled Again!

Really nice Clarky. I had a H1 Jazz with the same finish a couple of years ago and it looks cool with the tort gaurd. Gas for highway bass, must resist, skint. Jez

Re losing picks. Remember when you were a kid and your auntie used to knit you woolly mittens with a big bit of wool sewn to each glove and then you fed it through your sleeves? Well, you know where I`m going with this...Save you a bloomin fortune. Think I`ll get onto the patent office right noo. Jez

It`s a early G&L. What model I dont know. They started in 1979 or thereabouts. Guitar guitar has one almost the same as this one in red and with a single pickup for £1500 due to the fact that it`s a vintage guitar, so they say. Looking at the picture it doesn`t have the familiar headstock so I can only assume it`s an early one or a prototype. Jez

Agree with some of the other points. Don`t but anymore basses, get a Asdown Mag 3oo or a Peavey amp as even though you want to play in a more mellow band you will still need some bottom end especially if there are nessecary evils like a drummer involved. Get out there and do it as you will learn a lot quicker, have a good laugh and women love guys that play guitar, until they realise that you play bass and they turn their attention to the lead guitarist. I think that Ibanez are fantastic basses. That six stringer`s a beast. A few years ago I had a GSR205 and it was a great bass just one string too many. The build quality and finish are fantastic. I own 2 at the moment a srx700 and a sr700. I bought Dub Junkies Stingray and it`s a fantastic bass, but you know what, I think I still prefer my Ibby`s. Jez
Surely Lemmy would piss all over Flea in that comparison??????
Nah, Pete Way`s your man for chemicals. Jez
Are they safe for storing basses. More interested in hearing about neck/bass damage rather than them falling off the wall.
I had a few of the Hercules "grab it" type that spring into place when you put the neck into it. They were good and did not damage the basses. Bit more expensive but considering the damage if it fell off, it`s worth it. Jez
A lot of the weddings we do have a free bar, so lots of drunk women, and its nice to see them enjoying themselves. Especially when doing it with their mates 5 ft in front of us
Right, I retract my previous thread. Women, free beer, sold to the numpty with the 4 string thing! Jez
Yes, sorry Uncle Chris Edit: I have indeed shelved all thoughts of a respray and will instead stick to buying basses and selling them a few weeks later at a loss
Clarky I think that you and I went to the same economic classes as that`s exactly what I do. Mabye we should start a support group, S.W.B.B.A.S.W.L.A.A.L.L. This stands for: Sado`s Who Buy Basses And Sell Weeks Later At A Large Loss. Of course you could change the W to something else..... Jez

Sod weddings, functions and sod functions in general, especially bowling, cricket and snooker clubs. It might be a better paying gig than playing boozers but at least you get a good reaction especially when there are loads of drunk women about!! Jez
It's also because Gibson took over from the UK distributor the other year, so you can only get Epiphone & Gibson gear at a few authorised dealers in the UK these days. They're not selling through the smaller shops anymore.
Your spot on there. Merchant City Music in Glasgow used to sell Gibson/Epiphones and now the only place you can buy them in Glasgow as far as I know is Guitar guitar. Kind of narrows down your choice and haggalin options. Jez

The thing that gets me about Laklands is the price. You can buy a US P cheaper than an equivilent Lakland. The latest P basses are fantastic and as said, the build quality is better and the case is the best on the market. You get a gig bag with a Lakland. The Lakland`s are good basses but how can they justify the cost of a bass made by Cort in Indonesia or wherever compared to the cost of producing in the Us. And yeah, I know they send them to Chicago to be finished. Jez
I'll have you know that's an original copy, stand on me!
Classic man!!!

Just traded my Jazz with the dub man for his beautiful stingray. Cracking guy to deal with, no messing about and if he puts any of his G&L`s up for sale buy it without hesitation! As for me that`s it I`m skint! Cheers Keir. Jez

I`ve got almost the same problem but for different reasons. This year I have bought: Fender us p bass, g&l l2000 tribby, Ibanez sr300, srx700, sr7oo, ARTB100, Fender Classic Jazz, Epi Ebo, thunderbird and am planning to get something different again. The problem seems to be that I lust after something, convince myself that I will like the neck better or something like that and then 2 weeks later I am fed up with it. It is never anything to do with the play-ability of the bass as that can usually be sorted. And I`m crap at selling things on and drop the price low just to get shot of the things. I need help as my credit card bill is gettin bloomin scary. Does this happen to anyone else or am I just not right? Jez
